Video Poker

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Two Aces and two Kings. Now -- Tony -- interesting situation.

You *could* stop here, take 10 points for the two pairs and clinch a tie with Erik for second place. If you do clinch that second place tie, you're each assured of one free letter in the Poker Run -- but Michael gets at least two free letters.

Then again, you could make exchanges and try to make first place yourself.

So -- what would you like to do?

Tony: I'm gonna try to make a full house by discarding the 9 of Diamonds.

(scattered cheers)

Tony: And I'm going all Will Riker on the board, i.e., in Captain Picard's voice, "Number One". (audience laughs) If that fails, at least I won't do any worse. ;)

Doug: Wow, from "$ale" to "Trek: Next Gen". Let's see if the trade pays off. Is there' an Ace or King behind 1?

(FF reveal sfx) (audience groans)

Doug: Nope -- 10 of Spades.

TONY
MICHAEL

(ding)

Doug: Well -- the good news for Erik and Tony is they each get a one-letter head start. Michael, worst thing you can do is lose five points and you'd still have at least two letters. *So*...

(cards are shuffled on the video screen; after shuffling stops, the cards are covered immediately with the 24 numbers)

Doug: ...might as well try for at least four of a kind. Because if you have at least 100 points, you'll get three free letters. A royal flush means 1000 points, four free letters and -- oh yeah -- CY$1,000,000.

(audience cheers)

Doug: Before you go to the board, tell us the Michael Clifford story.

Michael: My name is Michael Clifford. I am from Marlton, New Jersey. I am currently unemployed. I like watching game shows and playing netgames. Doug, I have a new celebrity crush.

Doug: Oh, do tell?

Michael: Now, I still have crushes on Jill Manas and Heather Morris, but my newest celebrity crush is Rebecca Grant. You might remember her as the host of GSN's "Throut & Neck". BTW, if Rebecca or Jill or Heather wants to e-mail me, my address is donodjm12fan@yahoo.com.

(Michael gives a thumbs up) (audience laughs)

Doug: Huh-kay with that shout-out out of the way, please pick five numbers.

Michael: I will go with 21, 15, 11, 16 and 10.

Doug: All right, let's have a look.

Doug: Well -- you've got two Jacks -- but you also have three ingredients for a spaded royal flush. No sense in stopping here. Please make exchanges.

Michael: I'm going for the royal flush! (audience cheers) I will get rid of the non-spades and I will go with 18 and 17.

(more cheers) (drum roll)

Doug: All right, if the numbers 17 and 18 hide the King and Queen of Spades -- albeit not necessarily respectively -- you win 1000 points, you win CY$1,000,000 and you'll have a tremendous advantage ahead of -- (pauses) -- the, uh, Poker Run.

I just realized I forgot to take my nerve medicine. And at a time like this, I need to take it now.

So, let's take a break -- (audience groans) -- we'll find out if Michael's won big after this.

(more groans) (smooth jazz theme plays) (Doug heads for his dressing room to take his medicine)

Note from Doug: Due to the tornado that hit my neighborhoods
on February 10, 2013, much of the rest of the round is
presented in an HTML lite format.

======================================================================

Doug: Huh kay, I'm ready. Before the break, Michael drew three cards for a spaded royal flush and two other cards. He ditched those other two cards to try and complete that royal flush. If he makes it, it's 1000 points, a million cyber-bucks and a big advantage in the Poker Run.

Let's not delay any further and see his new picks of 17 and 18.

(FF reveal sfx) (audience groans)

Doug: Nary a spade. Oh well. (ding) You got two Aces for 5 more points. Michael's up to 45, the others tied at 30. Now that the second phase is over, let's find the winner of this round -- with our Poker Run.

(motorcycle sfx)

Doug: In this round, our contestants will be racing to collect letters in the word "POKER" while completing analogies. Our top two players get head starts.

(ding)

Doug: Michael had the most points -- meaning he gets two free letters in "POKER". Erik and Tony, you tied at second place -- so we'll give you one free letter each.

Each time you chime in and finish an analogy correctly, you earn another letter. But if you buzz in with a wrong answer, you're locked out of the next analogy.

Hands back on the buzzers, please, because the Poker Run starts -- NOW!

On "WKRP in Cincinnati", Dr. Johnny Fever is to Howard Hesseman as Les Nessman is to...

(Tony buzzes in)

Doug: Tony.

Tony: Richard Sanders

(ding)

Doug: That's right.

"O Canada" is to Canada as "La Marseillaise" is to...

(Tony buzzes in)

Doug: Tony again.

Tony: France

(ding)

Doug: Right again.

In the movie "Shrek", Princess Fiona is to Cameron Diaz as Donkey is to...

(Michael buzzes in)

Doug: Michael.

Michael: Eddie Murphy

(ding)

Doug: That's right. Tony and Michael now tied at three letters. Erik still has one.

"H" is to hydrogen as "Zr" is to...

(Tony buzzes in)

Doug: Tony.

Tony: Zirconium.

(ding)

Doug: That's right. One more and you win.

On the TV series "I Spy", Kelly Robinson is to Robert Culp as Alexander Scott is to...

(Tony buzzes in)

Doug: Tony for the round.

Tony: Bill Cosby.

(ding)

Doug: That's right and that's the Poker Run.

(dings; audience applause)

Doug: Congrats for winning, Tony. Now you get to pick a letter.

Doug: Behind the five letters in the word "POKER", we have different amounts of cyber-money. One letter hides the top payoff of CY$7500.

Since you won the first round of our 10th anniversary celebration, I want you to find that 7500. Where is it?

Tony: I'm hoping it's under P.

Doug: Letter P. What's hiding there?

(rimshot; ca-ching)

Doug: A third of that -- CY$2500.

(smooth jazz theme plays)

ERIK
TONY
MICHAEL

Doug: Yours to keep no matter how you finish in the game. Tony, we'll see you later for Joker Poker. Erik and Michael go heads up in 5-Card Poker -- as we see some I.D. -- as in Initial Descriptions. That's ahead on Net Poker.

(audience cheers)
