5-Card Poker

(new car music plays)

Scarlett: Any contestant who wins four consecutive games of Net Poker will play for CY$1,000,000 in Deuces Wild Poker. In addition, that player will automatically win -- A NEW CAR!!!!

(audience cheers)

Scarlett: Performance and design meet with this Tesla Roadster Convertible. This all-electric sportscar is worth an amazing CY$113,150.

(more cheers)

Scarlett: And now, Chris and Dean try to stay in the game in 5-Card Poker. Back to Doug Morris and Net Poker.

Doug: Thank you, Scarlett. Welcome back. It's time for our elimination round -- where only the winner of this round advances to play against Mathias for the championship.

DOUBLE MEANINGS

Doug: And as I noted earlier, we're playing Double Meanings in 5-Card Poker. In this round, I'll give you two meanings of a single word. All you have to do is chime in and tell me the word. For example, if I gave you...

Distribution of playing cards
Completion of business transaction

...you'd buzz in and say "deal". Now each time you give me the right word, you earn 10 points plus a choice of two up cards for your poker hand. Remember, every time you decline a card, it automatically goes to your opponent.

Also remember if you chime in and give me a wrong answer, the points and control of the cards automatically go to your opponent.

After you've each collected four cards, we'll have the cards up for grabs face down -- and then play a 15-point blind card pair of meanings. The player who ends up with the better hand earns 25 points. Then, we race to 100 points with the Poker Run.

CHRIS
DEAN

Doug: We've reset the scores to zero. But before the reset, we had a tie for second place at the end of the Poker Run. Rules say if that tie involves the champ, he'll cut the cards. Chris is the champ, he cut the cards -- and now let's see the first two cards from the top of the deck.

(a few groans)

D.J.: The Jack of Clubs and the 10 of Clubs.

Doug: Obviously, the matter of a royal flush is not in this discussion. But these two meanings of a single word are. Hands on the buzzers, please. Best of luck and away we go.

Room for young children
Where trees or plants are raised

(Dean buzzes in)

Doug: Dean.

Dean: Nursery.

Doug: That's right.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: First ten points of the round go to you, Dean -- as well as first choice of card.

Dean: The Jack, please.

Doug: Knave goes to you...

CHRIS

DEAN

Doug: ...meaning the 10 goes to the champ. Let's get two more cards, please.

D.J.: The Ace of Clubs and the 10 of Diamonds.

Doug: Bullet and another 10 up for grabs with this next 10-point pair of meanings.

Young kangaroo
Title of short-lived "Friends" spinoff

(Dean buzzes in)

Doug: Dean again.

Dean: Joey.

Doug: Just beating the champ to the buzzer, Dean's right again.

CHRIS
DEAN

(dings; audience applause)

Doug: Personally I would've preferred a spinoff about Rachel -- maybe Phoebe. Dean, which card?

Dean: Tough one, Doug. If I take the Ace, I'll have a flush draw, but he'll have a pair. Instead, I will take the ten to break that pair and hope for a straight or another Jack.

Doug: (pauses) Thank you, Norman Chad.

(light laughter from the crowd)

CHRIS

DEAN

Doug: In-depth analysis with the pick -- only on The New Net Poker. Well, let's have a look at the next two cards.

D.J.: And the flop comes -- Queen of Diamonds, King of Diamonds. Doug's next to act. (more light laughter) Sorry, couldn't resist.

Doug: Gee thanks. Chris, you could use some points. Let's see if you can get on the scoreboard with this.

Robin Goodfellow in "A Midsummer Night's Dream"
"Biscuit" you try to put in the other hockey team's "basket"

(Chris buzzes in)

Doug: Chris.

Chris: Puck.

Doug: That's right.

CHRIS
DEAN

(dings; audience applause)

Doug: Chris, you're now on the scoreboard. Which card do we add to your half of the cards board?

Chris: Since we could have a possible straights either way, I'll take the King.

Doug: Indeed, both players are on a straight draw...

CHRIS

DEAN

Doug: ...both are 3/5 of the way toward completing a straight. Are the next cards going to help?

D.J.: Eh, maybe, maybe not. The 9 of Clubs and the Jack of Hearts.

Doug: Huh kay. This looks to be a pivotal pair of meanings. Here they come.

To grab a cab driver's attention
Lumps of ice that fall from the sky

(Dean buzzes in)

Doug: Dean.

Dean: Hail.

Doug: Hail? Yes.

(audience laughs and applauds) (ding)

Doug: Sorry, couldn't resist. Dean, you're leading 30 to 10. Which card?

Dean: I'm going take the guaranteed pair of Jacks to break Chris's straight draw and then hope that he doesn't draw an Ace or a King for the blind card.

Doug: Gotcha. And as we look at the board...

CHRIS

DEAN

Doug: ...Dean's looking to improve on one pair of Jacks. Chris is looking to improve his hand, period. Final two cards for the round come face down.

Doug: Every question from this moment forward will be worth at least 15 points. This is the blind card question -- and that's exactly worth 15. Here we go.

Group of vultures while they're on land
Site of Olympic or other event

(Chris buzzes in)

Doug: Chris.

Chris: Venue.

Doug: That's right.

CHRIS
DEAN

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Well, you definitely needed those points. You're only down by 5. Which of the cards do you think will give you an extra 25 before the Poker Run?

Chris: Right card.

Doug: Right card it shall be.

CHRIS

DEAN

Doug: We now have the cards in place. Let's turn 'em over and see who'll have the lead ahead of the Poker Run. Let's start with Chris. Your last card needs to be an Ace or King -- or else we know Dean will score 25 points. Deej, let's have a look, please.
