Qualifying Question

First, thanks for the prayers, kind thoughts and charitable donations to my neighborhoods in and around Hattiesburg, Mississippi, after the February 10th tornado. Please keep 'em comin'.

We're looking for a new player to oppose Nikolai. Before you can play against Nikolai, you've got to come the closest to the right answer to this question.

On October 9, 2011 at 12:00pm Central, we watched a rerun of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" on The Hub; this episode originally aired during the show's first syndicated season. The contestant in this episode won at least $500 in cash (read: no consolation prize). Out of a possible $250,000, how much did the contestant actually win? Given their scoring system, please respond in increments of $500.

Fifteen-large, she pocketed. BTW, she declined a chance to have the winnings muliplied by ten to $150,000 on a U.S. History question. They played "What if?" and it turned out she would've won the $150K.

Oh well. Who's playing against Nikolai?

Joseph Bohan $18,500

It's Joseph. Thanks to all for playing. We've got a big jackpot to play for in the second audience game of the episode. Keep watching.
