Audience Game

All right, before we start qualifying in The Jackpot Game, we're changing its rules.

First, the rule changes are in deference to Raymond Weaver's plans to bring Net Card Sharks back to netgames. Please join me in supporting this effort.

The Jackpot Game will still be a seven-card game. But, instead of calling higher/lower, you'll be calling red/black. Each time you correctly predict the suit's color of a card, you win cyber-money -- and reaching the goal wins the jackpot.

More details later. But for now, let's find a player. We respectfully ask the main game players of this eighth episode to sit this out in an effort to spread the wealth.

To qualify, just pick a number from 0 to 51 inclusive. The player closest to our randomly generated secret number gets to play The Jackpot Game *and* we'll cut the deck based on your number

Your numbers are due Thursday at 8:00pm EDT/7:00pm CDT.

(time passes)

All righty then. What's our magic number?

(ding)

Forty. Who's the closest?

Dom Falance 35

It's Dom. Stick around to see if he cracks the CY$39,300 jackpot.

Voice guy: We've got another case
of high and low fever.
Net Card Sharks is back
with your host Raymond Weaver.

Only VBS.

Doug: Welcome back to Hot Dice. We've put the dice away temporarily and playing a card game with Dom Falance, who won the right to play this during the break.

Dom, we've changed around the rules to our Jackpot Game -- but this much has stayed the same. You have to meet or exceed a goal. And the goal tonight is...

("Celebrity Sweepstakes" tabulation sfx)

Doug: ...CY$4000. The moment you run your score up to CY$4000 or more, you this.

Scarlett: Tonight in the jackpot, we're proving good things really do come in threes. It started with three crisp new CY$100 bills. Then we added three checks worth CY$1000 each and three money bags filled with CY$10,000 each. And we'll keep adding CY$3000 per episode until someone reaches the goal in The Jackpot Game. So that means the jackpot is currently worth CY$39,300.

(audience cheers)

Doug: Thanks, Scarlett. Dom, these are the new rules to The Jackpot Game.

We're going to play red or black with the cards hidden behind the letters in "JACKPOT".

You'll pick a suit color -- red or black. If you call red and we flip over a Heart or Diamond, you win cyber-money. If you call black and we turn over a Spade or Club, you win cyber-money. If you make any mistake, no penalty -- but no payoff, either.

The rank of the card determines how much we pay for a correct prediction. Face cards and tens are worth CY$1000 each, anything less than a 10 is worth the value of the card in hundreds of cyber-dollars. An Ace will augment your score to the goal for a correct call.

We'll play it just as before with the cards from left to right. BTW, we should note for the record Dom cut the deck for this Jackpot Game -- and we placed the first seven cards from the top of the deck accordingly behind the letters in "JACKPOT". So, all that straight, Dom, first card's behind the J. Do you think the color of the card's suit is red -- or black?

Dom: Hmm. Red I said.

Doug: He said red. Did he say right?

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: The 4 of Hearts -- a red-suited card. So already your CY$400 to the good. Now to the card behind the A -- red or black? Dom: Um. Black.

Doug: Selecting black this time. Is he right?

(buzz) (a few groans from the crowd)

Doug: Nope -- another Heart. No CY$500 payoff here. Still at 400. Try it again.

Dom: Red again.

Doug: Red again. Another Heart? Maybe a Diamond?

(buzz) (more groans from the crowd)

Doug: No -- 3 of Clubs. Dom, we're going to have to hope for right picks and big cards the rest of the way. Of course, a right pick with an Ace will automatically win it. We're working on the card behind the K. Red or black?

Dom: Black.

Doug: Trying black. Come on Spade or Club.

(buzz) (more groans from the crowd)

Doug: Rats. The other red 5. Well, we're going to have to hope for an Ace and you call the color right. Keep the faith. Red or black?

Dom: Black again.

Doug: Staying with black. The Ace of Clubs or Spades would really hit the spot.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Jack of Spades. OK -- CY$1400 total. Still need to hope for an Ace with the right call of -- red or black?

Dom: Red.

Doug: Red. Come on Ace of Diamonds or Ace of Hearts.

(buzz) (more groans from the crowd)

Doug: Queen of Spades. Well, Dom, you have to hope the last card is an Ace. Red or black?

Dom: Black.

Doug: Going with black.

If

the

last

card

is

the

Ace

of

Clubs

or

the

Ace

of

Spades

you

hit

the

jackpot.

What's

behind

the

letter

T?

(dings; audience cheers)

Doug: Hey now! Ace of Clubs comes through at the last possible moment. Congratulations!

Wow. CY$4000 here *plus* the cyber-money from the jackpot means you have just won a total of...

Doug: ...CY$43,300. (more cheers) I don't know how we'll top that -- but we'll try with one more audience game after this.
