Episode 1 Game 2

Near your heart, near your leg or near your neck. Where you will most likely find a carotid artery?

(Shawn buzzes in)

Doug: Shawn.

Shawn: In the neck.

Doug: (nods head) We'll take that. (audience applause) In, near, the word "neck" was the key word in the answer that we needed. Shawn, this free roll could give you the lead right now.

(Shawn rolls)

(audience cheers)

Doug: Well, a 6 and a 4. Banking a grand right now will give you the lead. Then again, we have two rounds to go and a catch-up round pending. So you got to think about if and when the dice getting in Eddie's hands by the time Round 6 is over.

(audience shouts suggestions)

Shawn: One more roll.

Doug: The infamous one more.

(Shawn rolls)

(audience cheers)

Doug: And it pays off -- 5 and 3. CY$1800 in the pot. Was that really one more?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Shawn: I'll bank the 1800.

Doug: You'll bank the moolah. Very well.

(ding)

Doug: With that, we start Round 5 with the lead changing hands. Shawn with 5400, Eddie with 4000. Hands back on the buzzers, please.

Buzz in and tell me if the word "buzz" is an example of a palindrome, a contraction or an onomatopoeia.

(Shawn buzzes in)

Doug: Shawn.

Shawn: Onomatopoeia.

Doug: Correct. (audience applause) An onomatopoeia is defined as the formation or use of words -- such as "buzz", "quack" or "murmur" -- that imitate the sounds associated with the objects or actions they refer to. Hot Dice -- not only fun, but educational.

(audience laughs)

(Shawn rolls)

(audience groans)

Doug: Shawn's done with our language arts lesson -- and proceeds to roll snake eyes on the free roll. For reasons discussed earlier, no double decision on the free roll. But you do have the option to bank CY$200 or roll again.

(audience shouts suggestions)

Shawn: I think I will risk the 200. Let's see a bigger number!

(Shawn rolls)

Doug: Ask and ye shall receive -- just be careful what ye ask for. Got a 3 and a 4 for a bust.

Round 6 starts now. Shawn still leads 5400 to 4000. If the score is *not* tied at the end of this round, we play a catch-up round. This *could* be the last question of the game.

The Game of the Goose, the game of checkers or The Game of Life. Petal, Mississippi was once home to a museum dedicated to what famous board game?

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: Guessing here -- checkers?

Doug: Good guess, that's right. (audience applause) The International Checkers Hall of Fame and Museum is, unfortunately, no more due to some financial problems and a fire, as I recall. Eddie, big free roll of the dice coming up here.

(Eddie rolls)

(a few groans)

Doug: And you start with a 3 and a 2 for CY$500.

Eddie, you're trailing with CY$4000; Shawn has CY$5400. If you bank the CY$500 right now, you'd start the catch-up round -- and would have to roll a double or something higher than an 8 to have a chance to stay in the game.

Or you may roll again here in Round 6 and try to improve upon the CY$500 in the pot. Big decision. What do you do?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Eddie: I think I'd better give 'em another roll.

Doug: All right. Roll 'em.

(Eddie rolls)

(audience cheers)

Doug: Big one -- 6 and 4 for 10. Another 1000 in the pot.

Eddie, if you banked the 1500 right now, you'll lead by 100 and Shawn would have to roll first in the catch-up round.

Of course, you could try to put further distance between you and Shawn if you roll again. And if you roll a 7, that's all for naught and you'd be down by 1400 as *you* start the catch-up round.

(audience shouts suggestions)

Doug: Lot to think about. What do you do?

Eddie: Wow -- is there another good roll in these dice or not? I think I'll risk it and try to stretch the lead.

Doug: Rolling the dice again.

(Eddie rolls)

(audience cheers)

Doug: And it's another safe roll -- 3 and 6 for another 900. Pot's up to 2400. Bank now and you'll lead by 1000. Roll again and you'll either stretch the lead further or fall back behind by 1400.

(audience shouts suggestions)

Eddie: I think it's almost closing time, so I'd better get to the bank.

(audience cheers)

Doug: Depositing CY$2400 into your bank. Very well.

(ding)

Doug: Well, you've both banked more in this game than you did the last one. Now it's time for the catch-up round.

In this round, there's no pot to build. Shawn, you get one roll of the dice -- and if necessary Eddie will roll the dice once more.

The value of your roll will be immediately be banked. Shawn, that means you have to roll a 10 or more -- *or* a double -- to have a chance to stay in the game.

Speaking of doubles, we have to shuffle the board.

(amounts are shuffled on the double decision board; after shuffling stops, the amounts are covered immediately with the doubles)

Doug: We've added an extra roll to at least two of the cyber-money amounts on the double decision board. We've also replaced "double pot" with "double your score".

Finally, any roll of a 7 still results in a bust. You don't lose anything since you're not building a pot -- but you're not gaining anything either.

Shawn, you get the first roll. Best of luck to both of you in this round.

(Shawn rolls)

(audience cheers)

Doug: Wow -- big roll. Eleven for CY$1100 directly into your bank.

(ding)

Doug: Now it's over to Eddie. You're down by CY$100. There's no way you can tie mathematically. As long as you can avoid the bust roll of a 7, you're going to the Bonus Bonanza.

Eddie: (claps dice together) Anything but a 7.

(Eddie rolls)

(audience laughs and cheers)

Doug: Eddie, you've won the game. And you won it with the Lawrence Welk roll -- a 1 and a 2.

(dings; more cheers)

Doug: Anyone have Guy Hovis' number? (audience laughs) Maybe we can negotiate getting some bubble machines for the set.

In any event, Eddie, stick around. Your Bonus Bonanza is coming up. Shawn, this is your first loss. In worse news, the win you earned is wiped out because of the loss. But we don't take anything you banked. In between this game and the last, you've banked CY$9950.

(audience cheers)

Doug: And a note for both of you. On the next show, we're going to have a surprise on the double decision board we call "lose loss". That means if you roll a double, go for it and find "lose loss", the loss that's against you goes away.

So the next game is not necessarily an elimination game. But once you lose that second game, you're eliminated from further play.

Shawn, we'll see you on the next show. Eddie, we're going to see you after the break at the Bonus Bonanza.

HOT DICE CONTINUES
