Episode 1 Game 2

Scarlett: Tonight's contestants will receive some of the following...

Canada Dry. The name that means refreshment with a special sparkle beverage for every taste. Canada Dry ginger ale.

Kellogg's Egg Rolls. Kellogg's says "good evening" with a fine selection of chicken, lobster and shrimp egg rolls. Available in the frozen food section of your supermarket. K-E-double-L-oh-double-good. Kellogg's, the best to you!

A five-pound Rath honey-glazed ham. Looks as good on the outside as it tastes on the inside. From Rath.

And a member of our studio audience will receive a gift certificate toward the purchase of any item listed in the world famous Spiegel catalog. Spiegel -- with over 50,000 quality items offering value, selection and savings. Spiegel, Chicago, 60609.

(audience applause)

Doug: Welcome back to Hot Dice. It's Game 2 between Eddie and Shawn. Before we start, let's meet our players -- starting with our winner from Game 1, Shawn.

Shawn: I am currently attending college majoring in accounting. I have the best wife in the world, and a 9 year old son. In my spare time, I enjoy going to baseball games and taking as much money as I can away from casinos.

Doug: In legitimate terms of course -- as opposed to certain scenes from "Ocean's Eleven". (light laughter from the crowd) Just tryin' to help. Anyway, you've taken CY$3450 from us. Let's see if you can take more from us. Eddie, of course, wants to take more from our coffers as well. Tell us about yourself.

Eddie: Thanks, Doug. I'm a sports writer for a major daily covering colleges. Hope you saw my piece on your hometown Southern Miss Golden Eagles last month.

Doug: Thanks you for that. Indeed, there is a sense of urgency in winning another championship in the conference.

Eddie: I live in Virginia with my bride of nine years and our seven-year-old son who's going to be running the world someday.

Doug: Well, I for one welcome our forthcoming overlord. (light laughter from the crowd) Time now to start Game 2.

(ding)

Doug: All that cyber-money you banked in Game 1 is in a safe place. We're going to start Game 2 with this question in Round 1.

Foghorn Leghorn, Donald Duck or Scott from "South Park". (a few laughs from the crew) According to a GEICO commercial, which cartoon character is a bad book narrator?

(Shawn buzzes in)

Doug: Shawn.

Shawn: Foghorn Leghorn.

Doug: You could make a case for all three -- but Foghorn's right. (audience applause) Going for your second straight win, Shawn. Roll 'em.

(Shawn rolls)

(a few cheers)

Doug: OK, double 4 -- but let me explain something. This was a free roll -- so the double decision board is inactive. (a few groans) Now, now, there might be a bust behind double 4. Where's the fun in busting out one roll into the round?

In any event, Shawn, we seed the pot with CY$800. Now if you roll another double, you'll have that double decision to make. A 7, of course, wipes you out for the round. Bank the 800 or roll again.

(audience shouts suggestions)

Shawn: Let's roll 'em again.

Doug: Be our guest.

(Shawn rolls)

(a few groans)

Doug: (impersonating Lawrence Welk) And a 1 and a 2.

(a few laughs from the crowd)

Doug: If anyone rolls another 3, I wonder if bubble machines will be activated. Shawn, CY$1100 in the pot. Bank the bills or roll for more thrills?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Shawn: I have a number in mind, and 1100 isn't it. I need at least one more roll.

(Shawn rolls)

(audience cheers)

Doug: You got a 5 and a 3 for CY$800 more. Was CY$1900 the number you had in mind -- or you want to roll for more?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Shawn: It's close enough to the number I was looking for. I will bank the 1900.

(audience cheers)

Doug: CY$1900 from the pot to your bank.

(ding)

Doug: By the way, had we allowed that double decision with Shawn's double 4 to start, he could have had a choice between an CY$800 seeding to the pot or the unknown -- which could've been "double pot". By declining CY$800, he would've doubled -- nothing.

All the more reason it's called a free roll. In any event, time for Round 2. Player, hands back on the buzzers, please -- because here's the query.

Dan Wheldon won the centennial running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2011. After the race, did he celebrate his victory by drinking beer, champagne or milk?

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: As is the tradition ... got milk?

Doug: The sportswriter's right. (audience applause) Free roll for you, Eddie.

(Eddie rolls)

Doug: Doubles again on the free roll -- this time a 5 and a 5 for a CY$1000 seeding. Eddie, the next double you roll in this round will count as a double decision. Naturally, a 7 in the rest of the round counts as a bust.

Shawn banked 1900 in the last round. Want to bank the grand -- or take the dice again in hand?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Eddie: A grand is a nice start, but I think I'll take another roll.

Doug: Be our guest.

(Eddie rolls)

Doug: *Now* we have a double decision situation, Eddie. You rolled a 3 and another 3. Now, the decision is this: Have us add CY$600 to the pot -- or take whatever is behind the double 3 symbol on the board.

If there's cyber-money behind there, we'll add that much to the pot instead of the 600. If there's a surprise, we'll follow its directions. If there's a bust, you score nothing for this round and we advance to Round 3. What say ye?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Eddie: Let's see what's on the board.

Doug: Going to the double decision board. What's behind the double 3?

(ding) (audience cheers)

Doug: Oh WOW! CY$3000 behind the double 3 -- and that means we add three large to the pot.

Doug: Suddenly, we have CY$4000 in the pot. Stop and bank the four thou -- or will you go to town?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Doug: While you're thinking it over, we need to shuffle the board.

(amounts are shuffled on the double decision board; after shuffling stops, the amounts are covered immediately with the doubles)

Doug: OK, now we're ready for your choice -- roll the dice or bank the fundage?

Eddie: I think I'll roll -- this pot on over to the bank.

Doug: Ohhhhhhh, clever. You almost gave me heart failure on that one. Four grand rolling over into your bank.

(ding)

Doug: Eddie now enjoys a CY$2100 lead. We've got this, three rounds and a catch-up round to go. So we're far from done. Next question.

It's quotation time on Hot Dice. "You know the one thing I've learned about women is you can never learn enough about women." Was this quote from the past attributed to David Letterman or Johnny Carson?

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: Sounds like Carson to me.

Doug: If I were a contestant, I'd say "Carson" as well. But the correct answer is T.V. Boy Dave. (a few groans) Dave's the one who said, "You know the one thing I've learned about women is you can never learn enough about women." And Shawn's chomping at the bit for his free roll. Roll 'em.

(Shawn rolls)

Doug: And you start big -- CY$900. Bank the 900 or roll again.

Shawn: Good start. Let's try to double that and roll again.

(Shawn rolls)

Doug: Wow -- nearly prophetic statement. You nearly double the pot to CY$1700. Bank now and you'd only be 400 off the lead.

Shawn: That's close enough. I will bank it.

Doug: And with that, your bank goes up to CY$3600.

(ding)

Doug: Eddie still enjoys a lead -- but only now by 400. Next question as we start Round 4.

Near your heart, near your leg or near your neck. Where you will most likely find a carotid artery?
