Due to circumstances explained throughout Game 16, we already have a full slate of players for this episode -- Game 17.

Joseph Kristoff, the winner of Game 16, will be Player 1 in Game 17. As for Matt Tanga and John Hines, we determined who'll be in the Player 2 slot and who'll be Player 3 with a -- you guessed it -- qualifying question.

It was a qualifying question in name only since the player closer to the right answer, high or low, got to be Player 2. The other, by default, will be Player 3.

The question for Matt and John, was...

People in Vegas know what taking the big risk is like -- or do they? The average Las Vegas resident spends how much money on gambling each year. Please respond to the nearest U.S. dollar.

(time passes)

OK, and the challengers have locked in. Since we're just jockeying for position and this question involved just the two players, we're going to show the players' answers first and then reveal the correct answer.

John, you locked in your answer first. Let's see it.

John Hines $ 500

All right, 500. Matt, let's see yours.

Matt Tanga $1000

A grand. Now let's go to the big screen for the right answer.

QUALIFYING ANSWER
$846

(ding)

Matt's taking the Player 2 spot. John's Player 3. Stand by, Joseph, Matt and John for TBR.

Rich Jeffries: "Washington Week In Review with Jessica and Ashlee
Simpson" (audience laughs) was pulled from the VBS schedule at the
last minute. Instead, we bring you a different type of -- big risk.

======================================================================

(various scenes of gaming tables, roulette wheels and playing cards appear in a fast-paced montage, a la the UK version of Gambit, as "A Little Less Conversation" plays)

Rich: From CDM Enterprises, a division of Trax Productions, it's time for a test of knowledge and a test of luck. Thousands can be won or lost when you take The Big Risk.

(audience applause)

Rich: And now, here's the star of our show, Doug Morris!

(Doug walks from behind The Big Risk board)

Doug: Thank you, Rich. Helloooooooo, everybody and welcome to The Big Risk. Last time we were together, we crowned a new champion.

Also, some technical difficulties cropped up that last time -- and we felt the then champ got slighted. So, in fairness, he's back.

And we had a standby player in Game 16 in case the then champ wasn't available.

So, with all that 'splained, here to introduce all our players is the lovely D.J. Hamilton.

(audience cheers; D.J. walks out wearing a strapless light blue dress)

D.J.: Hey, ya'll. Let's get right into the game. Back with CY$8000 is Player 1, Joseph Kristoff. The aforementioned standby contestant is Player 2, Matt Tanga. And back for a second chance is Player 3, with CY$18,700 -- John Hines.

JOSEPH
CY$8,000
MATT

JOHN

(audience cheers)

Doug: Thanks, Deej. We'll see you later when we play Dice Risk. John, I should note the loss from the last game will not count against you. If you win this and the next game, you'll become an undefeated champion. Joseph, same situation for you. Let's start each player with CY$250.
