Doug: And we're back on The Big Risk. Time to start Round 2 -- as we give our players CY$500 each to start.
JOHN
CY$700JOSEPH
CY$700RICK
CY$2,000
Doug: Now, John, Joseph and Rick, take a look at the True or False board -- which now resembles a 3x3 slot machine grid.

Doug: And -- I'm -- trying to make cents of this theme.
D.J.: Look, pal. Save the puns for Net Definition, OK?
Doug: Uh, in any event, in a moment, I'm going to pull the handle on my podium and give the reels a spin.
We guarantee on every spin at least one row or column will have three different symbols; notice how there's a nickel, quarter and dime, in that order, in the left and center columns. Also on each spin, at least one row or column will have two of the same coin; notice the top row has two nickels and the right column as two dimes. And each spin will have at least one row or column with three of the same; such is the case with the three quarters in the middle row and three dimes across the bottom.
Now when it's your turn, you're going to choose one row or column before I spin. If I spin three different symbols in your chosen row or column, you get to play three True or False questions worth CY$250 each. If you choose a row or column with a pair of a particular symbol, the three questions are worth CY$500 each. And if you're lucky enough to pick a row or column with a triple, you'll tackle three questions at CY$1000 each.
After you've each had a turn, we'll play the cards in Five-Card Risk.
Normally, we go to the player with the lowest score. But the two Js are tied. John, since you're Player 1 and the champ, you'll go first. Pick one row or one column.
John: I'll take the left column.
Doug: Left column it is.
(Doug pulls handle on his podium; reels on true or false board spin)

Doug: Well now, three quarters in the left column. So these three questions are worth CY$1000 each. Oddly enough, the first question deals with coins.
True or false: A dime is 75% copper.
(time passes) (buzz buzz)
Doug: Time's up. The answer's true.
True or false: Thomas Jefferson invented the coat hanger.
(time passes) (buzz buzz)
Doug: That's true, too.
True or false: Sally Field starred in the 1994 movie "The River Wild".
(time passes) (buzz buzz)
Doug: That's false. Meryl Streep. John, you stay at CY$700. Who knows what will happen. Joseph, we're over to you, now.
Joseph: Top row, please, Doug.
Doug: Top row -- hope it's lucky.
(Doug pulls handle on his podium; reels on true or false board spin)

Doug: Pair of nickels across the top. So you get three questions at CY$500 each.
True or false: There are more than 2500 known recordings of The Beatles' song "Yesterday".
Joseph: True.
Doug: That's right.
True or false: Dendrochronology is the study of tree growth.
Joseph: False.
Doug: No, 'fraid that's true. One more.
True or false: A photorecptor detects sound waves.
Joseph: True.
Doug: Detects light. One out of three gives you CY$500.
JOHN
CY$700JOSEPH
CY$1,200RICK
CY$2,000
Doug: Rick, you'll have the lead going into Five-Card Risk no matter what. But let's see how big the lead will be. Let's start by choosing a row or column.
Rick: I'm a traditionalist when it comes to slot machines. I'll go for the middle row.
Doug: The middle row. Let's see if we get a triple there.
(Doug pulls handle on his podium; reels on true or false board spin)

Doug: Maybe we can get you to start a new tradition with the top row. But the middle row makes the next three questions worth CY$500 each. Here goes...
True or false: Dizzy Gillespie was a great saxophonist.
Rick: False
Doug: He was a trumpeter.
True or false: An idler arm is part of the steering linkage on a car.
Rick: True
Doug: That's right. One more.
True or false: At least one First Lady of the United States was not born in the United States.
Rick: True
Doug: Hat trick!
JOHN
CY$700JOSEPH
CY$1,200RICK
CY$3,500
Doug: And we've wrapped up the questions for this round. Rick padded his lead with that hat trick. He's up to CY$3500. Tight race for second with Joseph at CY$1200 and John at CY$700.
Time for the Five-Card Risk -- and Deej tells us all about.
D.J.: All right, Doug. Our theme for tonight's Five-Card Risk is...
D.J.: ...Any Spade Loses. During the break, Dirty Harry shuffled a deck of 54 cards, including two Jokers, and placed the first five cards from the top of the deck accordingly behind the numbered spaces.
In a moment, you're going to place a bet on the first card -- in the hope that it's not a Spade. If it's not a Spade, the payoff is 1-to-1.
Each time we reveal a winning card, you'll have a choice to make -- freeze or risk. If you freeze, you protect your winnings for the round. If you decide to risk, you'll try to double what you just doubled.
The round ends when all five cards turn up winners, you all freeze or we turn over a losing card. When we do turn over a losing card, you lose all of your net gains and post a net loss of the original wager.
Also, Jokers are wild -- but they also represent losing cards.
Doug: Thanks, D.J. Players, the minimum bet is CY$500. You may bet "all in". Wagers, as before must be in increments of CY$50. Good luck and place your bets.
(as players lock in their wagers)
Doug: BTW, I'd be in remiss if I didn't note a former First Lady who wasn't born in these United States. Louisa Adams, wife of John Quincy Adams, was born in London.
JOHN
CY$200JOSEPH
CY$500RICK
CY$2,800RISK
CY$500RISK
CY$700RISK
CY$700Doug: OK, we're all locked in -- and Joseph and Rick each bet CY$700. You must've thought John would go all in. Instead, he went minimum -- CY$500. Let's flip the first card over and see if it's a winner.
(BB87 Gold Run loss sfx; audience groans)
Doug: What?!?!
(Dirty Harry smirks)
Doug: Harry, may the bird of paradise fly up your nose.
(audience laughs and applauds) (DH gives Doug an evil stare)
JOHN
CY$200JOSEPH
CY$500RICK
CY$2,800
Doug: Well after that quick end to Five-Card Risk, Rick ends this round with 2800, Joseph's down to 500 and John's back to 200. Anything can happen in the third round. Only two players will advance to The Big Risk round. Find out who makes it after this.
