All right, time for Game 16 of The All-New Big Risk. As announced earlier, we have a new bonus structure -- and we're instituting a grandfather clause in deference to John Hines, who has one win and CY$16,800 to his credit.
We're looking for two challengers. Unless you're the champ or played in Game 13, 14 or 15, please sit on your hands and let someone else play (if you can't remember when you played, check out www.dougmorris.net/tbr and click on archives).
Time for the qualifying question. The two players closest to the right answer, high or low, play against John.
On July 17, 2007, at 1:00pm Central, we watched "The Weakest Link" on BBC America. The players banked how much money out of this episode's possible £10,000? Please respond to the nearest multiple of £10.
(time passes)
And that's time. And one way or another, I'm going to have to make an executive decision here. First, the right answer to this question.
QUALIFYING ANSWER
£2250
The game started with a perfect £1000 in the first round. The players pretty much fell apart afterward. At least three rounds ended in a goose egg.
Now, who's the closest?
Joe Kristoff £2190The host with the most of Net Three on a Match. Next closest?
Rick Morris £2130No relation to me, I assure you. OK, now here's where the executive decision-making comes into play. As announced earlier, we owe John Hines another bonus game as a grandfather clause in our new bonus round policy. Thing is -- I haven't heard from him since this qualifying round began. So, let's see who the third closest is.
Matt Tanga £3000Now for the decision. John, if you're reading this, please e-mail me and we'll get to your endgame and defense of your championship. If I don't hear from you by Wednesday at 10:00pm EDT/9:00pm CDT, we'll see you in Game 17 at the earliest.
Matt, for now, please consider yourself the standby player. If I don't hear from John by the deadline, you'll be Player 3 in this game. If I do hear from him, we will, as a token of thanks, save you a spot in Game 17.
======================================================================Rich Jeffries: "Dream House Meets The Wrecking Ball" (audience laughs) will not be seen at this time. Instead, we invite you to our house of cards. ======================================================================
Rich: From CDM Enterprises, a division of Trax Productions, it's time for a test of knowledge and a test of luck. Thousands can be won or lost when you take The Big Risk.
Rich: And now, here's the star of our show, Doug Morris!
(Doug walks from behind The Big Risk board)
Doug: Thanks, Rich -- and welcome to The All-New Big Risk. We start with an important announcement. We've changed our bonus structure.
The Bonus Dice Risk will now be utilized as the champion's "retirement" game should he or she string together three victories. Winning just one game -- earns that player a chance to go for the gold.
Here to demonstrate is our current champion. With one win and CY$16,800, let's welcome back John Hines.
(audience cheers) (John walks out from stage right)
Doug: Now because John ran into some rough luck right off the bat on Bonus Dice Risk, we're grandfathering him into this new bonus structure -- and letting him play our new endgame. And this *still* can be worth as much as a quarter of a million cyber-dollars.
Doug: And what's nice is no matter what you win here, you get to defend your title against two challengers. Now that we have you on stage, let's welcome D.J. Hamilton...
(audience cheers) (D.J. walks out wearing a glittering blue dress; she stands next to the big screen monitor)
Doug: ...and now, here's our dealer, Dirty Harry.
(audience boos) (Harry walks out wearing his usual blackjack dealer's uniform; he stands next to The Big Risk board)
Doug: Thank you for not booing Deej. (audience laughs) Now that all the introductions are out of the way, let's tell ya how this works. It's a game we call Go For The Gold.
Doug: John, before the show, Harry dealt out cards from a special deck of 10 -- and placed them behind the letters in "The Big Risk". Harry placed three gold cards, three silver cards, three bronze cards -- and, unfortunately, one joker. You want to steer clear of the joker and pick from the other cards.
You may keep picking letters until you find the joker -- or find three of the same. And if you find three identical cards, you win cyber-money -- based on the paychart next to Deej.
THREE GOLD CARDS
CY$25,000
THREE SILVER CARDS
CY$10,000
THREE BRONZE CARDS
CY$5,000
D.J.: That's right. John, if you find three bronzes, you win CY$5000. Three silvers pays CY$10,000. But you really want to go for the gold -- because if you find three golds, it's CY$25,000.
Doug: And there's more that can be won. Because if your first three selections are identical, the payoff is multiplied by *ten*. (oohs from the audience) So that means if you get three bronze cards right off the bat, you get CY$50,000 instead of CY$5000. Three silvers off the bat means CY$100,000 instead of CY$10,000. And if you find the three golds before you draw anything else, it's CY$250,000.
Doug: You just want to steer clear of the joker -- because hitting the joker automatically ends Go For The Gold. But the CY$16,800 is not at risk. So good luck -- and go for the gold.
John: T
Doug: First letter on the board gives us...
Doug: ...Silver. Find two more silvers in these next two picks and you win CY$100,000.
John: E
Doug: There's Gold. OK, out of contention for a huge payoff. But you're two Golds away from CY$25,000 and two Silvers from CY$10,000.
John: R
(scattered cheers from the crowd)
Doug: That's Gold. One more Gold and you win CY$25,000. Where's that third Gold?
John: S!
Doug: You sound confident. If S hides the third Gold you have CY$25,000.
(BB87 Gold Run loss sfx; audience groans)
Doug: Oh nuts! Well, at least you got further into this than Bonus Dice. Let's open up the rest of the board.
Doug: Third Gold was behind the H. Well, you *still* have CY$16,800 -- and we'll start a new game with two opponents. Let's meet 'em now.
