Doug: Now we're going to play a series of toss-up questions each worth CY$50. Chime in with the right answer and we add the 50 to your score. But, if you buzz in and give a wrong answer, each of your opponents instantly win CY$50. When this half of the round ends, you'll have a chance to double your score in a game of chance. Right now, we start this round with the questions. Hands on the buzzers and here we go...

On Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, what fictional king ruled the Land of Make-Believe.

(Josh buzzes in)

Doug: Josh.

Josh: King Friday the Thirteenth

Doug: That's right.

Who became the first black tennis player to win a Wimbledon singles title?

(Joseph buzzes in)

Doug: Joseph.

Joseph: Arthur Ashe.

Doug: Oh, great answer. But it was Althea Gibson. Michael and Josh each score 50 points.

MICHAEL

JOSEPH
CY$100
JOSH
CY$150

Doug: In 1957, Althea Gibson defeated fellow American Darlene Hard 6-3, 6-2. Arthur Ashe was the first *black man* to win a Wimbledon singles title. The question asked for first black tennis *player* -- which didn't specify a male or female. BTW, in 1975, Ashe defeated Jimmy Connors. Another sports question on the way...

The NFL's Cardinals played their first home playoff game in what stadium?

(Michael buzzes in)

Doug: Michael.

Michael: Comiskey Park

Doug: Back when they were the *Chicago* Cardinals. Nicely solved for 50, Michael.

Doug: Their first playoff game was played in 1947. Our director, Nelson Griddle was in attendance for that game.

Nelson: (over loud speaker) I heard that!

(audience laughs)

Doug: And with that, another question...

In 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower signed an order adding what two words to the Pledge of Allegiance?

(Josh buzzes in)

Doug: Josh.

Josh: Under God

Doug: Yes, indeed.

(audience applause)

[NOTE FROM DOUG: We should've only played seven questions this round. But, I'll be nice and allow play on this eighth question...]

In 1890, American aviation hero Eddie Rickenbacker was born in what "buckeye state"?

(Joseph buzzes in)

Doug: Joseph.

Joseph: Ohio!

(audience applause) (bells ring)

Doug: And there's the signal ending the first round. Michael with 250, Josh with 200 and Joseph with 150.

And before we go further, we want to meet our players. You've met Michael from Jersey. Joseph, you hosted a version of The "Old" Big Risk here on VBS. Tell us what you've been doing since then.

Joseph: My name is Joseph Kristoff, and I am a former netgame host from Montgomery Village, Maryland. I have been a part of the furry fandom for almost two years, and I enjoy coin collecting and classic rock music.

Doug: Ah, classic rock tunes. Smart man! Good to have you with us. And Josh, a word or two about you, please.

Josh: My name is Josh Warren, I'm 26 and a retail manager in Stockton, CA.

Doug: Well, thanks for coming from Stockton to play The Big Risk. Time for Dice Risk and dressed-down Deej tells us how we play.

(light laughter from the crowd)

D.J.: Hey, I like to be in "everyday" wear now and then. Players, take a look at the board.

D.J.: Michael, since you're our returning champion, you get to determine our dealer's point. You do that by picking a number off the board.

Michael: 6

D.J.: Behind the number 6, we find...

(ding)

D.J.: ...well, a 6. And now, please welcome our dealer. The senior dealer at the Bonus Island Resort and Casino just down the road in Gulfport. Mr. Sunshine himself, Dirty Harry.

(DH walks out to a chorus of boos)

Doug: Now booking birthday parties.

(audience and D.J. laugh)

D.J.: Now, here's what's about to happen. Since Michael set Harry's point at 6, the dealer will roll the dice a maximum of seven times. He'll stop earlier when he matches his point or rolls a 7. If you think he'll match his point of 6, you want to bet on "PASS". If you think he'll fail to make his point and roll a 7 along the way, you want to bet on "DON'T PASS".

Correct predictions will pay off at 1-to-1. Incorrect predictions means you post a net loss of your wager. And if Harry doesn't pass or fail after seven rolls, all wagers result in a push.

Doug: Remember, players, you must bet at least CY$50. You may "shoot the works" and bet all of your stake. And you have to wager in increments of CY$50. Good luck and place your bets.
