Doug: Welcome back to The All-New Big Risk. Time to start our second round with Michael, John and Alan. We start by adding CY$100 to each score...
MICHAEL
CY$400JOHN
CY$200ALAN
CY$450
Doug: Alan now has CY$450, Michael with 400 and John 200. Questions are now worth CY$100. Good luck, hands on buzzers and here we go...
In 1958, what African nation became an autonomous republic within the French community? (John buzzes in) John.
John: Congo Republic
Doug: No, it's actually Chad. So, Michael and Alan each win 100 by default.
MICHAEL
CY$500JOHN
CY$200ALAN
CY$550
Doug: And we go on to the next question.
What horse won 1978's triple crown of horse racing? (Alan buzzes in) Alan.
Alan: Affirmed
Doug: Correct for 100 more.
MICHAEL
CY$500JOHN
CY$200ALAN
CY$650
Doug: Alan leading by 150. Next question...
Name the first country to use a breathalizer test. (John buzzes in) John.
John: Canada
Doug: No, sorry, it's Great Britain. Again, Michael and Alan each get richer by 100.
MICHAEL
CY$600JOHN
CY$200ALAN
CY$750
Doug: Hang in there, John. We still have two risks to play. Lots can still be won. Another CY$100 question...
In 1990, the director of Cincinnati's Contemporary Arts Center was indicted -- and later acquitted -- on obscenity charges. The charges stemmed from the center's display of what photographer? (Alan buzzes in) Alan.
Alan: Robert Mapplethorpe
Doug: That's the photographer's name.
MICHAEL
CY$600JOHN
CY$200ALAN
CY$850
Doug: Alan padding his lead to 250. Another question...
Everyone knows Harrison Ford played Indiana Jones. But, Steven Spielberg's first choice to play Indy was once in the TV title role of Magnum, P.I. Name this actor. (Alan buzzes in) Alan again.
Alan: Tom Selleck
Doug: Right again.
MICHAEL
CY$600JOHN
CY$200ALAN
CY$950
Doug: Alan's one right answer away from passing the grand mark. Next question...
At the 1998 Winter Olympics, the U.S. women's ice hockey team won the gold medal. What team won silver? (Michael buzzes in) Michael's in this time.
Michael: Canada
Doug: Final score of that gold medal game was 3-1 -- the U.S. of A over -- Canada.
MICHAEL
CY$700JOHN
CY$200ALAN
CY$950
(audience applause) (bells ring)
Doug: And that sound means we're done with the questions. Alan with CY$950, Michael in second with 700. John, you've got lots of catching up to do. But anything can happen in this next risk. Deej, tell us what Dirty Harry has planned for us this time.
D.J.: All right, Michael, John and Alan, it's time for the Five-Card Risk.
D.J.: During the break, Dirty Harry shuffled a deck of 54 cards, including two Jokers, and placed the first five cards of the deck behind the corresponding numbered spaces. In addition, he randomly picked the theme for tonight's Five-Card Risk and it is....
D.J.: ...Any Face Loses. That means all losing cards in this round are Kings, Queens and Jacks. Jokers are wild -- but they also represent losing cards.
In a moment, you'll place a wager on the first card. So long as it's not a face card, the payoff is 1-to-1. You may then freeze and collect your winnings or risk and try to double what you just doubled. But, anytime a losing card is revealed, any and all net gains are wiped out and you lose the original amount of your wager.
Doug: Minimum bet in this round is CY$100 and you may go all in. If you do bet CY$100 and all five cards turn up winners, that CY$100 wager will return a total of CY$3200. So, John, a daring move or two could put you right back in the thick of things. Good luck, gentlemen, and place your bets.
