MG Round 1 Question B
(audience cheers) (Doug presses button revealing Round 1 questions on the toaster) Doug: OK, Matt, you won the right to go first. I have two questions. Pick one, A or B, and we'll get on the road. Matt: Thanks Doug, I'll go B.
Doug: (grabs B; walks to panel) All right. New game, everyone on the panel plays and away we go with this assignment. Howie Mandel said, "The producers of 'Deal or No Deal' are anticipating competition from a revival of 'Let's Make a Deal'. So to fight fire with fire, the producers talked about replacing the $50 cash prize in one of the cases with << BLANK >>." (think music plays) (light laughter from the crowd)

Doug: OK, they're all set, Matt. Here's the query again. Howie Mandel said, "The producers of 'Deal or No Deal' are anticipating competition from a revival of 'Let's Make a Deal'. So to fight fire with fire, the producers talked about replacing the $50 cash prize in one of the cases with << BLANK >>." Matt: A zonk. (smattering of applause) Doug: OK, good answer. Let me gently note, as a basic rule, general answers do not match specifics. I think you'll see why I bring that up as we review the answers -- starting with Ryan Vickers. Ryan V.: So, Howie and the crew are getting worried eh? Well, how about getting rid of that $50 case with +----------------+ | A ZONK IN THE | | SHAPE OF | | HOWIE'S TOUPEE | +----------------+ (audience laughs) Doug: What'cha think, judge? (ding; audience applause) OK, that's a match. Matt scores the first CY$100 of the game. Ryan V.: I have to say though, having attended the French Canadian version in person a month ago that I will take Julie Snyder over Howie any day. Doug: I've seen a few clips of that version. Julie's easy on the eyes. Let's go to Chad, now. Chad: My favorite, along with someone from the past: [ THE GHOST OF JAY STEWART IN A GIANT ROCKING CHAIR ] (buzz) (audience laughs; but a few groans) Doug: Interesting answer. Now let me explain. "Zonk" is implied in Chad's answer -- but "zonk" is not on the card. Ultimately, Matt, if everyone else comes up with identities of nonsense prizes without having the word "zonk", we couldn't give you credit for running the table. At least I think that's what the judge over there in the cage is thinking. Anyway, Mark? Mark: Well, the penny would be considered, for all intents and purposes a Zonk, right? Doug: Yeah. Mark: So, you would have to figure the replacement of the $50 case would have to be replaced with something of value, right? Doug: In comparison to the penny, yeah. Mark: Well, what else would be better than... (flip card 1) An autographed picture of... (flip card 2) ...the GHOST OF JAY STEWART. (buzz) (smattering of applause) Doug: Oddly enough, I've played the LMaD DVD game and one of the dud prizes is a picture of Monty Hall. So far, Matt has one match. Let's see if he collects more as we come on down to the master of the squares. Howie Mandel said, "The producers of 'Deal or No Deal' are anticipating competition from a revival of 'Let's Make a Deal'. So to fight fire with fire, the producers talked about replacing the $50 cash prize in one of the cases with... Ryan: This was the only think I could think of... +========+ | A Zonk | +========+ (ding; audience applause) Doug: Well now. Another match. Steve, unlike other game show players, Matt's hoping for another "zonk". Steve: Though I could come up with an entire list of things, in an effort to avoid the "Specific vs. Vague" rulings, I just said... [A ZONK] (ding; audience applause) Doug: And Matt's up to CY$300. Nick, do you make it 400? Nick: You know, there are so many good answers here. Like the time Patty Deutsch completely drew a blank on who's picture was on the dollar bill? Remember what she said? Doug: Ah, yes, she came up with Monty Hall. Nick: And to think I'm sitting in the same seat that she occupied... I said... ---------- | SALAMI | ---------- (audience laughs) (buzz) Doug: Now I like that. Ya wanna know what I thought for an answer to this? There was a hilarious incident from the show where Monty offered to trade something for what was behind a curtain. And the contestant thought it might be a trip to Disneyland. Sensing there'd be something "better", she went for the curtain. And behind the curtain was a big sign that read "$50 for a trip to Disneyland". (audience laughs and applauds) So it would've been hilarious if someone up here thought of "Disneyland".
