MG Round 3 Question B
Doug: (grabs A; walks to panel) In the event John matches one and only one star, we'll go straight to the tie-break. For now, ponder this... Rockin' Rod took Dumb Dora out to a concert the other night. Rod said to Dora, "Look, there's Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey on stage." Looking perplexed, Dora asked, "<< BLANK? >>" (MG '7x changing keys think music plays)
Doug: Mercy, they wrote down their answers quickly. John, remember, one match to stay in the game and two to win. Rockin' Rod took Dumb Dora out to a concert the other night. Rod said to Dora, "Look, there's Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey on stage." Looking perplexed, Dora asked, "<< BLANK? >>" John: It wouldn't surprise if I didn't make it to the next round but I'll say -- who are they? (audience applause) (a few cheers) Doug: You probably don't know your own strength. "Who are they?" is a great answer -- seeing as how Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey are the remaining living members of the rock band The Who. Their hit song "Who Are You" serves as the theme for the main "CSI:" series. Let's compare the answers and see what develops. Will? Will: I'm about as out of the loop with entertainment as Dumb Dora is, so she and I asked: ***** WHO ARE THEY? ***** (ding; audience applause) Doug: See there? Tie ballgame already. One more match sends you to the Squares. Jay? Jay L.: John, I know you got this in the bag so I'm gonna be different. You know it's sooo loud at concerts. Well, Dumb Dora said +-------+ | WHAT? | +-------+ (buzz) (smattering of applause) Doug: Makes sense. To the other Jay now. Jay C.: Have to go with [Who?]! Doug: "Who?" -- and "Who are they?" -- will -- (ding) -- match each other! That's the win.
(dings; audience applause; MG-HSH win music plays) Doug: Simply "Who?" is the definitive answer for reasons explained earlier. But given the context of the question, "Who?" and "Who are they?" mean the same thing. So that's why we got the match. John, we'll still check the answers from the bottom tier for a little extra dinero. And I'd think there's at least one more CY$100 bill coming your way. Ryan? Ryan: (card) +======+ | Who? | +======+ (ding; audience applause) Doug: See there. Another match. Eddie, what did you come up with Eddie: Heh. Wasn't as dumb as she thought. [flip] WHO? (ding; audience applause) Doug: There's another. And Adam, do you make it an even grand? Adam: (card) +----------+ | "WHOO- | | OOOOOO- | | OOO?!!!" | +----------+ (ding; audience applause) Doug: Yes!
WHO ARE THEY? | WHAT? | WHO?
WHO? | WHO? | WHOOOOO?!!!!!John's response: WHO ARE THEY?
(MG variant plays) Doug: Just when you were smelling disaster, you nearly ran the table. Five matches at CY$100 each mean CY$500 -- plus another 500 for winning Match Game. That's how you get CY$1000 -- and a chance at much more. Come take your spot here on the blue dot. (Matthew and John shake hands; John walks over to the blue dot; Doug shakes Matthew's hand) Doug: Matthew, you have CY$100 plus our great thanks and a flat tire from the truck I sold the other day. (light laughter from the crowd) Nice hand for Matthew Brewer, everyone! (audience cheers)FROM MG TO HS
