QMP I: Semi-Final Game 1 Round 3

(vacation music plays) (Jess Harris, wearing a grass skirt and floral print bikini, dances the hula in front of a bunch of palm trees)

Rich: Tonight's eliminated semi-finalist will receive a cruise of the Hawaiian Islands.

(audience cheers) (video montage of Hawaii plays)

Rich: Islands of sugar canes, exotic flowers, coconuts and breath-taking sunsets await this evening's runner-up. The eliminated semi-finalist and a guest will fly round trip coach to Honolulu -- where they will board the S.S. Independence for an unforgettable seven-day cruise from one beautiful island of Hawaii to another. Compliments of American Hawaii Cruises.

(more cheers)

Rich: And now, back to Doug Morris and the Net Poker Quarter Million Playoff.

Doug: I thank you Rich. And I thank Jess Harris for joining us in the house, tonight.

(audience cheers)

Jess: Hi, Doug and D.J. Great to see you again.

D.J.: You sure you want to go out for drinks after the show wearing that? (audience laughs)

Jess: (laughs) I do have a change of clothes backstage.

Doug: While the ladies plan their night out, we've got a game to finish.

MICHAEL
ANDY

Doug: Michael leads 3750 to 3000. In this round, all the values are doubled. That means the questions are now worth CY$1000 each -- until we get to the blind card pair. Then we play for CY$1500. High hand is worth CY$2500.

Also, in the opinion of our judge, if one player has achieved an insurmountable lead, even if the poker hands aren't complete, the game will end right there and then. Given our scoring system, we'll know for sure someone wins outright if one player has scored more than CY$8000. Since we didn't give away the high hand bonus in the last round because of the tie, the judge will just pay extra attention to the score.

Michael, Andy, this is it. One of you is going on to the finals, the other's going to Hawaii. Michael cut the cards during the break. Let's see the first two cards for this final round.

D.J.: The Queen of Spades and the 10 of Spades.

Doug: All right. Obviously no chance at a royal flush -- so the trip around the world will have to wait. Good luck, play carefully and here's the first CY$1000 question of the final round...

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was...
\ written by Mark Twain
\ the first novel to be written on a typewriter
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Andy buzzes in)

Doug: Andy.

Andy: written by Mark Twain

Doug: That's right.

MICHAEL
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: First novel to be written on a typewriter was The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Andy, this is the first time you've taken the lead. Which card?

Andy: The Queen

MICHAEL

ANDY

Doug: Queen's yours and Michael gets the 10. Two more cards.

D.J.: The Queen of Hearts and the 9 of Clubs.

Doug: And let's test your knowledge of inventions this time...

Invisible ink was invented...
\ in the year 1900
\ by Thomas Edison
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Andy buzzes in)

Doug: Andy.

Andy: none of the above

Doug: Right.

MICHAEL
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: It was invented by James Jay in 1775. Thing I want to know is how was he able to demonstrate that at the patent office? (audience laughs) Which card, Andy?

Andy: I'd like to be "playing with the Queen of Hearts"

Doug: And play with the Queen you shall...

MICHAEL

ANDY

Doug: ...Michael gets the 9. Two more cards.

D.J.: The 10 of Diamonds and that pretty Ace of Spades.

Doug: All right. Another 1000 at stake. Andy trying to make a big lead bigger; Michael's trying to close the gap...

Actress Halle Berry...
\ filed for divorce from David Justice in 1999
\ won the title of Miss Ohio in 1982
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Michael buzzes in)

Doug: Michael.

Michael: none of the above

Doug: That's it.

MICHAEL
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: Divorce came in '96, Miss Ohio crown in '86. Michael, you're down by only 250. Which card?

Michael: I might regret this later, but I have to get a pair to keep up with Andy. I will take the 10.

Doug: Frankly, that would've been my move as well...

MICHAEL

ANDY

Doug: ...it's not easy to give up an Ace like that. But two pair or three of a kind beats one pair of anything. Next two cards.

(audience groans)

D.J.: The Ace of Hearts and the King of Hearts.

Michael: Wow! I should've taken the Ace last time out.

Doug: Well, let's see if you can grab an Ace in association with this next CY$1000 question...

In professional baseball, Cy Young...
\ pitched at least one perfect game
\ won more than 500 games
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Andy buzzes in)

Doug: Andy.

Andy: all of the above

Doug: That's right.

MICHAEL
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: And if I'm not mistaken, he won at least 200 games in each major league. Andy, which card -- as if I didn't know?

Andy: The ace

Doug: Much to Michael's chagrin.

MICHAEL

ANDY

Doug: As we go into the blind card question, Michael, you can still pull this out. If you buzz in, choose the right answer to the blind card query and then draw a 10, you still have a shot at it.

Doug: Andy, in addition, I'm just passing a message on from the judge. If you do score the CY$1500 on this question, go ahead and choose a card.

Good luck, gentlemen, and play carefully. Here we go with the blind card question.

Actress Nicole Kidman was in the movie...
\ Batman & Robin
\ Dogville
\ all of the above
\ none of the above
