5-Card Poker

(smooth jazz theme plays) (audience cheers)

Scarlett: And now, John and Evan try to stay in the game in 5-Card Poker. Back to Doug Morris and Net Poker.

Doug: I thank you, Scarlett. Indeed, it's time to go head's up with one of my favorite themes on the show...

THE NAME GAME

Doug: ...The Name Game. We'll show you photographs of famous people, give you the last name of one person and the first name of the other. What you have to do is supply the missing names. A sample from an earlier show.

Doug: If this broadcast journalist were the wife of this fictional detective, what would her name be?

In this case, the name "Katie" is missing from the left and "Holmes" from the right -- making the correct answer to the question -- Katie Holmes.

Each time you chime in with a correct answer, you earn 10 points and a choice of one of two up cards for your poker hand. As always, the card you decline goes to your opponent.

After you each collect four cards, we play a 15-point blind card question; high hand wins 25 points. Then we race to 100 points in another Poker Run.

John cut the cards for this round since he had the tie-break edge in the last Poker Run. He had more points going into that run. Let's see the first two cards from the top of the deck.

D.J.: We start with the 9 of Diamonds and the Ace of Spades.

Doug: Yin and the yang to start. Take a look at the monitor and away we go.

If this actor and TV host, who was Slater from "Saved by the Bell", were the son of this legendary psychologist, what would his name be?

(Evan buzzes in)

Doug: Evan.

Evan: Mario Brothers.

Doug: That's right. (ding; audience applause) Mario Lopez and Dr. Joyce Brothers. Evan, first points of the round are your -- as well as choice of card.

Evan: I'll take the ace on the right, please.

Doug: Thought ya might.

JOHN

EVAN

Doug: John ends up with a 9 there. BTW, natural royal flush bonus is still in play for CY$1,000,000 as we look at the next two cards.

(a few groans from the crowd)

D.J.: The 10 of Diamonds and the Ace of Diamonds.

Doug: And just like that, it's out of play. Oh well. Next pair of famous faces.

If this American soccer goalie were the wife of this actor, who was Screech on "Saved By The Bell", what would her name be?

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John.

John: Hope Diamond.

Doug: Right -- and we're tied at 10. (ding; audience applause) Ya know, that could be the basis for a spinoff of "The Big Bang Theory". Just sayin'. In any event, John, which card?

John: Have to take the Ace.

Doug: Rocket for you.

JOHN

EVAN

Doug: And a 10 spot for Evan. Let's see two more cards, please.

(a few woos)

D.J.: Yeah, "woo" is right. The Ace of Hearts and the Jack of Clubs.

Doug: At the right we're going, I think we know who wants what. Let's see what happens -- after this next pair of famous faces.

If this actress from the HBO series "Treme" were the wife of this rock star, who was the lead singer of Foreigner, what would her name be?

(Evan buzzes in)

Doug: Evan.

Evan: Khandi Gramm.

Doug: Khandi Gramm, that's right. (ding; audience applause) Khandi Alexander and Lou Gramm. Evan, you're back in the lead. I have to ask for legal reasons. Which card are we adding to your hand?

Evan: The ace, obviously.

Doug: Yeah, we saw that coming, didn't we?

JOHN

EVAN

Doug: Evan now with two Aces and a 10. John with Ace-Jack-9. Two more cards are on the way.

D.J.: The 9 of Clubs and the Queen of Clubs.

Doug: The fourth Ace is somewhere else in the deck. Will we see it? We'll find out later. Next question.

If this fictional ape were adopted by this legendary TV producer, what would the ape's name be?

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John.

John: King Lear.

Doug: Right you are. (ding; audience applause) King Kong and Norman Lear. If that really happened, that could be the basis for his next sitcom. "Ape in the Family". (a few laughs; others groan) John, we're tied at 20. Which card would you like?

John: The 9, please.

Doug: Making a pair going into the blind card question.

JOHN

EVAN

Doug: Evan with two Aces, a Queen and a 10. John with two 9s, an Ace and a Jack. Next two cards for the round are face down.

Doug: Let's up the ante. Fifteen points with this question. Then we award 25 for high hand and race to 100 in the Poker Run.

I should note both halves of this next question involve fictional characters -- so play carefully.

If this cheerleader from the movie "Bring It On" were the wife of this boss from the TV series "The Office", what would her name be?

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John.

John: Torrance California.

Doug: She'd be Torrance California. Right.

JOHN
EVAN

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Torrance Shipman, played by Kirsten Dunst; Robert California, played by James Spader. All right, John, 25 points hang in the balance. Which card?

John: I'll take the right card please.

Doug: The right card it shall be.

JOHN

EVAN

Doug: Cards are in place. Let's see who scores 25 points. John, a 9 would really hit the spot. An Ace or Jack would help. Otherwise, Evan takes the lead going into the Poker Run. Deej, please turn over John's last card first.

JOHN

EVAN

(scattered cheers)

Doug: Wow, the fourth Ace. Gives you two pair, John. Evan, only a Queen or 10 will give you the lead. Deej, please flip over Evan's last card.
