Deuces Wild Poker

Doug: Welcome back to Net Poker. Ya know, next year marks this game's 10th year on the VBS network. But right now, we've got a possible big moment in our history with Robert here -- playing for CY$1,000,000.

(audience cheers)

Doug: Robert, the stakes are obviously higher -- but this much has not changed.

Doug: Randomly hidden behind the numbers are ten of the most horrendous hooligans to come between you and the million. (audience laughs) Gotta break up the tension a little.

This much has not changed. There's still one outlaw in the top row, two in the second row, three in the third and four in the bottom row.

You'll pick one number from each row. Each time you don't run into an outlaw, D.J. will give you a deuce for your poker hand. The more deuces you have, the better your chances of winning CY$40,000 instead of CY$20,000.

However, if you're fortunate enough to win all four deuces and avoid all the outlaws, you win the mega bonus of CY$1,000,000.

(audience cheers)

Doug: As I recall, you won two jackpots in previous Deuces Wild rounds during your reign. Great chance to make it three out of four.

Let's start at the top row. One outlaw to avoid. You're playing for the Deuce of Spades.

Robert: #4.

Doug: Starting with number 4. Are we off to a good start to the million?

(outlaw says "YEEEEE-hawwww!") (loud groans from the crowd)

Doug: Are *YOU* kidding me!?!?!

(more groans)

Doug: Robert, I'm so sorry. You've worked so hard, you've played so well and to have *THAT* happen right off the bat is unreal.

Well -- the million's obviously out of reach. CY$40,000 is still possible. Pick a number from the second row please for the Deuce of Hearts.

Robert: #7.

Doug: Yeah, let's see if you get luckier with 7.

(outlaw says "YEEEEE-hawwww!") (more groans from the crowd)

Doug: Huhhhh-KAY. Well -- we keep going. Three outlaws to avoid now on the third row. Deuce of Clubs up for grabs. Make it a good number this time.

Robert: #13.

Doug: Ah -- of course, go with the number that's sure to work on the upcoming Net Crag show. Can we give him a Deuce?

(dings; audience applause)

Doug: Finally!

Doug: Deej places a wild card on the board for you. Now to the last row. This is where the odds are against you. Four outlaws -- two good numbers. Avoid the outlaws on this last pick and you win the Deuce of Diamonds.

Robert: #19.

Doug: Going with 19. Come on, let's give him two wild deuces to play with.

(dings; audience applause)

Doug: There we go. Wow, what rotten luck at the start. We obviously know what number to avoid at the start. Where were the other eight outlaws hiding?

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: All right, before we proceed, we should note we offered Robert a cut of the deck before we started this Deuces Wild round. Perhaps in the interest of good luck, he didn't want to cut the deck.

So I'm going to make an executive decision. Fellers, go ahead and bring out the deck. (two stage hands come from behind the chute; wheel out tray with 24 Net Poker cards face down) Robert, since the best you can do is CY$40,000, *if* you'd like, you may cut the deck.

(Robert cuts the deck one card deep)

Doug: Cuttin' the deck real thin. Well, let's see if that's a good cut. As our stage hands wheel the deck back, let's take a look at the paytable.

Doug: Worst that can happen with two wild cards is that you win CY$1000. But if you can draw cards higher than a 9 -- and they're all of the same suit -- that's a royal flush for CY$40,000. (audience cheers) Ready with the cards back there?

(first two cards come down chute)

Doug: I'll -- take that as a yes. Robert, you'll pick one of these two cards; the card you decline we'll discard. We'll repeat this process two more times and by then your hand will be complete.

Which natural card are we adding to your hand -- left or right?

Robert: Left.

Doug: Starting with the left. What joins the deuces?

D.J.: The Jack of Clubs.

(scattered cheers)

Doug: And that defines your mission. Find more clubs higher than a 9.

Doug: There's the Jack and now two more cards.

Doug: And the choice -- left or right?

Robert: Left.

Doug: Another left card -- another high Club?
