Joker Poker

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Scarlett: The championship's on the line. Robert and James play Joker Poker where one of them could win CY$25,000 -- plus the Joker's Bonus CY$20,000.

Scarlett: Back to Doug Morris and Net Poker.

(audience cheers)

Doug: Thank ya, Scarlett. Robert, James, let's dive right in to our championship round of Joker Poker and start with...

THE FRAME GAME

Doug: ...The Frame Game. I'll show you a set of three frames like this, from an earlier show...

BANANA
???
DECISION

Doug: ...in the top frame, we have the word "banana"; in the bottom, we have "decision". What you have to do is identify the mystery word in the center frame. A correct answer will lead to two different two-word phrases.

BANANA
SPLIT
DECISION

Doug: The right answer in this case is "split" -- for "banana split" and "split decision".

Each right answer is worth 10 points and a choice of card; a wrong answer means the points and control of the cards go to your opponent. After you each have four cards, we play the 15-point blind card frames. High hand gets 25 points -- and then a race to 100 points in the Poker Run to determine our winner.

James cut the deck for this round since he won the first round. Let's see the first two cards from the top of the deck.

D.J.: The 9 of Spades and the Jack of Hearts.

Doug: All right. Remember, five of a kind or a natural royal flush pays CY$1,000,000 in this round. Here's the first set of frames. Tell me what word goes in the middle.

REAR
???
SHOPPING

(James buzzes in)

Doug: James.

James: Window.

Doug: That's right.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Rear window and window shopping. James, first points of the round go to you -- and you get to pick a card.

James: The nine of spades.

(a few groans and murmurs from the crowd)

Doug: OK -- usually players take the higher of the two cards early in the round.

ROBERT

JAMES

Doug: Perhaps you have a feeling about something. Next two cards, please.

D.J.: The Queen of Hearts and the Queen of Clubs.

Doug: Two ladies up for grabs. Next frames are coming.

ASTEROID
???
BUCKLE

(James buzzes in)

Doug: James again.

James: Belt.

Doug: Right again.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Asteroid belt is in outer space. Belt buckle is what some rednecks use in lieu of ID. (audience laughs) James, you're up to 20 points. Which lady?

James: In the words of Juice Newton: "I'm playing with the Queen of Hearts!"

Doug: Breaking up Robert's attempt at the royal.

ROBERT

JAMES

Doug: Both players on a straight draw. Next two cards, please.

D.J.: The Ace of Clubs and the Ace of Spades.

Doug: Well, James' straight draw's already for naught. Robert's hand's already better -- but James has more points. Let's see what happens with these frames.

DONNA
???
CAMP

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: Summer.

Doug: That's right.

ROBERT
JAMES

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Robert, you're on the score board. Which Ace would you like?

Robert: Ace of Spades.

Doug: All right.

ROBERT

JAMES

Doug: Robert with Ace-Queen-Jack. James with Ace-Queen-Jack. Next two cards are crucial.

(scattered cheers)

D.J.: The Joker and the Ace of Hearts.

Doug: Yep, they're crucial alright. Next frames.

HOPE
???
JUBILEE

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: Diamond.

Doug: That's it.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Hope diamond, now in the Smithsonian, and diamond jubilee marks a 75th anniversary. Robert, we're tied at 20. Which card?

Robert: Joker!

Doug: The wild card for Robert.

ROBERT

JAMES

Doug: James get the Ace. Next two cards for the round come face down.

Doug: Now we play for 15 points. High hand ends up with 25. Last set of frames for the round are coming.

ENCYCLOPEDIA
???
NOSER

(James buzzes in)

Doug: James.

James: Brown.

Doug: That's it.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Encyclopedia Brown, a fictional young detective, and brown noser, one who flatters. James, you're up to 35, Robert still with 20. Pick a card, please.

James: Right.

Doug: The right card for the challenger.

ROBERT

JAMES

Doug: Robert, of course, gets the left. Let's see who gets 25 more points. James, let's take a look at your last card first. Deej, if you will, please.
