Joker Poker

Doug: And we're back. Kevin or Deo will become our new champion and win up to CY$35,000 in this round -- before he tackles our bonus round, Deuces Wild Poker, for a possible CY$75,000.

KEVIN
DEO

Doug: Kevin cut the cards for this round -- and in this round of Joker Poker, we play...

TIME MACHINE
1976

Doug: ...Time Machine -- and the target year for tonight is 1976. Ah, '76 -- where the eight-track player was my iPod.

(a few laughs from the crowd)

Doug: In a moment, gentlemen, I'll name an event. It's up to you to determine if that event happened before, during or after 1976.

Each time you chime in with the right answer, you earn 10 points and a choice of one of two cards for your poker hand. The card you decline automatically goes to your opponent.

After you each have four cards, we'll play a 15-point blind card event. Player who makes the better hand earns 25 points. Then we race to 100 points in another Poker Run to find our champ.

Remember, this is Joker Poker. So that means two Jokers are in the deck. If you get one of them, you may use it for anything when your hand is complete.

Five of a kind or a *natural* royal flush is worth CY$1,000,000 in this round.

Let's see our first two cards in this deciding round.

D.J.: The Jack of Clubs and the Queen of Spades.

Doug: All right, two face cards up for grabs. Here comes your first event.

The original "Charlie's Angels" TV series debuts.

(Kevin buzzes in)

Doug: Kevin.

Kevin: After 1976.

(buzz)

Doug: No, those lovely angels first graced our TV screens during 1976. Deo, this means the 10 points and the control of the cards are awarded to you. (ding) And you get to pick a card.

Deo: Q.

Doug: I'll take that as a "Gimme the Queen, Doug."

KEVIN

DEO

Doug: Kevin gets the Jack out of that exchange. We have two more cards.

D.J.: The Ace of Spades and the 9 of Clubs.

Doug: Yin and the yang up for grabs. Next event.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers win their first regular season NFL game.

(Kevin buzzes in)

Doug: Kevin.

Kevin: After 1976.

Doug: That's right. We're tied at 10.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: They had won a pre-season game *during* 1976, the year they joined the league. But their first win that counted came in 1977 against the Saints. Kevin, which card?

Kevin: Keep the Ace.

Doug: Rocket for you.

KEVIN

DEO

Doug: Deo gets the Drew Brees card. Two more cards on the way.

D.J.: The Jack of Diamonds and the 10 of Diamonds.

Doug: Well, Deo's going to be on a straight draw either way. Will the same be said of Kevin? We'll find out after this next event.

The first kidney transplant is broadcast on television.

(Kevin buzzes in)

Doug: Kevin.

Kevin: Before 1976.

Doug: Right.

KEVIN
DEO

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Happened the year earlier in 1975. Oddly enough, it happened on "The Today Show". Afterward, Willard Scott wished the patient a happy 105th birthday. (audience laughs) Which card, Kevin?

Kevin: Keep the Jack.

Doug: Pairing up the Jacks.

KEVIN

DEO

Doug: We've yet to have a Joker in this round. Let's see if it's among our next two cards.

D.J.: No -- but two high cards -- the Ace of Clubs and the King of Diamonds.

Doug: All right, next event is of the celebrity marriage variety.

Lee Majors and Farrah Fawcett tie the knot.

(Kevin buzzes in)

Doug: Kevin.

Kevin: After 1976.

(buzz)

Doug: No, they got married in 1973; the divorce followed roughly nine years later. Deo gets the points and the card choice by default.

(ding)

Doug: And we're tied at 20 as a result. Deo, which card?

Deo: Ace.

Doug: Denying Kevin of two pair.

KEVIN

DEO

Doug: So as we get set for the blind card event, Kevin has two Jacks. Deo has no pair and no straight draw. Anything can still happen as bring down the next two cards from the top of the deck...

Doug: ...face down. We're playing for 15 points on this event. Player with high hand earns 25 points. Next event.

Patti Labelle scores a #1 hit with "Lady Marmalade"

(Deo buzzes in)

Doug: Deo.

Deo: After.

(buzz)

Doug: No -- it topped the charts in 1975. So "before" is the correct answer. Points and control go to Kevin.

KEVIN
DEO

(ding)

Doug: And you get the important card choice. Would you like the left or right, Kevin?

Kevin: Left card.

Doug: Left for you.

KEVIN

DEO

Doug: Deo gets the right card. Let's flip over the last cards and award 25 points.

First to Deo. You need your last card to be an Ace, Queen or Joker. D.J., please turn over Deo's last card.

KEVIN

DEO

(scattered cheers)

Doug: It's a Joker, you're still in it.

Kevin, you need your last card to be a Jack, Ace, King or the other Joker. Deej, please flip that last card over for Kevin.
