Video Poker

(FF reveal sfx) (audience groans)

Doug: Lucky 13 not so lucky, Eddie. It held the 9 of Clubs.

Doug: Well, Todd's assured of third place going into the Poker Run, Eddie in second. Andy will be first -- assured of at least two letters. But, Andy, might as well play the cards anyway.

(cards are shuffled on the video screen; after shuffling stops, the cards are covered immediately with the 24 numbers)

Doug: As you know, Andy, if you win this game, you'll play Deuces Wild for the Outlaw's Jackpot *plus* CY$1,000,000. But you could win a million *right now* if you make a royal flush.

Before you pick numbers, as you go for the undefeated championship, we let you say hello to friends and loved ones.

Andy: I'd like to say hi to my mom Arlene and my dad Ron, my brother Harvey, my cousin Faith, Aunt Ina, Aunt Sandy, Aunt Gail, and my two cats, Calvin and Candy.

Doug: All right. Let's have five numbers, please.

Andy: 5, 10, 11, 20, 22

Doug: OK, let's see how close you are to a big score.

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Jack-10 of Hearts, Jack-10 of Diamonds and a King of Spades. Now remember, if you score at least 100 points, you get an extra free letter in the Poker Run -- for a total of three letters. And a royal flush earns you four free letters in the Poker Run -- and, oh yeah, million cyber-bucks.

What's your pleasure?

Andy: I'm keeping the tens and Jacks. Just like Eddie, I'll try 13.

Doug: Ummm OK. As explained earlier, a full boat will give you 40 points. Not enough to put you at the century mark for an extra letter. But let's see if you get a third 10 or Jack.

(FF reveal sfx) (a few groans)

(ding)

Doug: At least it was an even trade. Andy has 60 points, Eddie with 30 and Todd with 15. Let's turn these points into letters in the Poker Run.

(motorcycle sfx)

Doug: This is where we find the winner of the round -- and the winner of this round advances to Joker Poker and is assured of picking up a nice payoff. I'll explain how later. First, the letters.

Doug: Andy, for making first place, you get the P and O in the word "POKER". Eddie, for making second place, you get just the P. Todd, no free letters, I'm afraid -- but anything's possible.

In the Poker Run, you'll be completing analogies. Chime in with the right answer and you earn another letter in the word "POKER". If you buzz in with a wrong answer, only your two opponents play the next question.

The first player to collect all five letters in "POKER" wins the round.

Hands back on the buzzers, please, because the Poker Run starts -- NOW!
