Doug: Ah *man*. Had 14 been hiding the Jack of Clubs, this hand would've been worth 250 points. Where did he need to go for the Jack and Ace?

Doug: Lucky 13 had the Jack and 18 the Ace.

Doug: Well, there's good news for Dean in all this. Chris *and* Dean each will have one free letter ahead of the Poker Run. Mathias is assured of at least two letters. But let's shuffle the cards.

Doug: Mathias, if you can improve your score to at least 100 points, which would mean four of a kind or better, you'll have a total of three free letters for the Poker Run. A score of at least 1000, which means you'd need the royal, gets you four free letters.
Before you pick your numbers, let's get the Mathias Lamers story.
Mathias: I'm a college student from Novato. I'm currently doing Computer Studies, and my hobbies include golf and walking my dogs.
Doug: Well, good luck in your studies, the golf game and here on Net Poker. Five numbers, please.
Mathias: 4, 14, 18, 20, 24.
Doug: Going with even numbers. Let's see if that gets you an even million -- or gets you close.

Doug: Wow. Three 10s. Mathias, three of a kind is worth 15 points -- but you might as well take that second turn. If you go for the straight or royal flush and not succeed, you'll only lose 5 points. So you're still going to be in first place before the Poker Run.
Mathias: I'm not going to take that dare. (a few groans from the crowd) Keep the tens and go for 8 and 11.
Doug: Kinda figured you might. You had at least one of each suit that first time. Does he find a 10 behind 8 or 11 this time?

Doug: Yes! Give him 125 points.

Doug: He didn't have much to lose -- but ended up with a big gain. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first time we've had someone's score in the three figures in the Video Poker round. (audience cheers) That means an extra advantage for Mathias in the Poker Run.

Doug: In the Poker Run, our contestants race to collect letters in the word "POKER". We give our top two finishers a head start.
Mathias, you made first place. So you get two letters. That and you scored at least 100 points -- so that gives you an additional free letter.

Doug: A total of three free letters before we start the run. Chris and Dean, you tied for second place. We'll give each of you one free letter.
Now in the Poker Run, all the questions are multiple choice. The first player to chime in and pick the right answer earns another letter. But if you buzz in and miss, you're blocked from playing the next question.
The first player to score all five letters in "POKER" wins this round, wins a maximum of CY$7500 and automatically advances to our championship round of Joker Poker.
Chris, Dean, Mathias, good luck. Hands back on the buzzers, please, because the Poker Run starts -- NOW!
