Joker Poker

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Rich: The championship's on the line. Matt and Robert play Joker Poker where one of them could win CY$25,000 -- plus a side pot worth CY$20,000. Back to Doug Morris and The New Net Poker.

(audience cheers) Doug: And thanks, Rich. Time for our championship round of Joker Poker. Since Matt won our first round, he cut the cards for this round. And in this round we deal with one of my favorite themes...

INITIAL DESCRIPTIONS

Doug: ...Initial Descriptions. I'll give you the initials of a famous person and then describe that person using words that start with that person's initials. An example from an earlier show: If I gave you the initials C.M. and the description "Coldplay Musician", you'd chime in and say "Chris Martin".

Each set of initials is worth 10 points until you each have four cards -- then we'll play for 15 points. High hand's worth 25. Then we'll race to 100 points in the final Poker Run of the game to determine our champion.

One more thing, if you make a natural royal flush or five of a kind in this round -- million cyber-bucks.

(audience cheers)

Doug: Matt, Robert, best of luck. We have a lot of loot at stake in this round. Let's see the first two cards from the top of the deck.

D.J.: And we have the red cowboys. The King of Hearts and the King of Diamonds.

Doug: All right. Here comes the first initial description. Identify this person based on these initials and the description.

A.T.

Answer Teller

(Matt buzzes in)

Doug: Matt.

Matt: Alex Trebek.

Doug: That's right.

MATT
ROBERT

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Of course, I could've been *really* mean and made you respond in question form. (audience laughs) But, nah, we're not like that. Which cowboy, Matt?

Matt: King of Diamonds.

Doug: Very well.

MATT

ROBERT

Doug: Matt's hoping for more Diamonds, Robert more Hearts, both for more Kings and Jokers. Next cards, please.

(a few groans from the crowd)

D.J.: The 10 of Spades and the Jack of Spades.

Doug: Well, so much for the million. Next description.

F.H.

Famous Housewife

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: Felicity Huffman.

Doug: Famous for her role in "Desperate Housewives". That's right for a tie. (dings; audience applause) First choice of card for you in this round, Robert. Which one?

Robert: The Jack.

Doug: Knave goes to Robert.

MATT

ROBERT

Doug: And Matt gets the 10 out of that. Two more cards, please.

D.J.: The 9 of Hearts and the Jack of Hearts.

Doug: Two hearts this time. Take a look at this person's initials and identify this...

G.C.

Gladiator Crush

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: Gina Carano!

Doug: He says with enthusiasm. And he's right.

MATT
ROBERT

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Robert, you either remember her brief stint as Crush on the most recent version of "American Gladiators" -- or you were glad to see her in the ESPN magazine without a lot of clothing. (audience laughs; men in the audience cheer) Perhaps a little of both. In any event, choose a card.

Robert: Another Jack, please.

D.J.: (shakes her head) Men! (audience laughs)

MATT

ROBERT

Doug: OK, Robert has a pair, Matt's on a straight draw. Two more cards, please.

D.J.: And two ladies. Treat them with respect, please. (light laughter from the crowd) The Queen of Hearts and the Queen of Clubs.

Doug: OK, with that, we know Matt will be 4/5 of the way toward a straight and Robert will have one pair going into the blind card question. But in terms of score right now, Robert's looking to pad his lead and Matt's looking to tie with this...

C.B.

Cinematic Batman

(Matt buzzes in)

Doug: Matt.

Matt: Gotta be Christian Bale.

Doug: And it is indeed Christian Bale. (ding; audience applause) We're at the Hugh Downs/Barbara Walters score -- 20-20. Which lady would you like?

Matt: Queen of hearts.

Doug: All right, going into the blind card question...

MATT

ROBERT

Doug: ...what was believed is now achieved. Matt would like a Jack to complete a straight. Robert would like a Jack to complete trips. Next two cards come face down.

Doug: And here we go for 15 points -- with 25 to follow soon thereafter.

S.B.C.

Successful British Comedian

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: Sacha Baron Cohen.

Doug: Right you are.

MATT
ROBERT

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Robert, you have the lead for now. Trick is hanging on to it ahead of the Poker Run. Which card do you think will help?

Robert: The right one.

Doug: He wants the right card.

MATT

ROBERT

Doug: OK, we're all set. Let's go ahead and check Robert's last card first, please.

MATT

ROBERT

(smattering of cheers)

Doug: Definitely improves the pair. Joker makes it trips. Matt, looks like the only way you'll get 25 points is if your last card is a Jack or the other Joker. And wouldn't be wild, in more ways than one, if the other Joker was in Matt's hand. Deej, let's have a look.
