5-Card Poker

(new car music plays)

Rich: Any contestant who wins four consecutive games of Net Poker will play for CY$1,000,000 in Deuces Wild Poker. In addition, that player will automatically win -- A NEW CAR!!!!

(audience cheers)

Rich: The Audi R8 Coupe Quattro. This fantastic sportscar comes with a 4.2 liter V8 engine, R-tronic gearbox, double-clutch gearbox, 10-disc CD changer, 1000-watt sound system -- and much more. A prize worth CY$109,400.

And now, John and Matthias try to stay in the game in 5-Card Poker. Back to Doug Morris and The New Net Poker.

(audience cheers)

Doug: And we're back. For those of you playing the home game and wondered why I gave the time for Denver when Denver wasn't even in that last question, I don't know either. (light laughter from the crowd) Dude over here was giving me a hurry up signal and I just lost track of time *and* thinking. Anyway, if it's 9:00am in San Francisco, it's 8:00am in Juneau.

JOHN
MATTHIAS

Doug: John, Matthias, let's get you guys some moolah. Only one of you will get to the championship round. We play the elimination round here -- 5-Card Poker. And the theme is...

DOUBLE
MEANINGS

Doug: ...Double Meanings. I'll give you two descriptions of one word -- and all you have to do is figure out the word.

Every time you buzz in and answer correctly, you earn 10 points and the right to choose one of two up cards for your poker hand. But if you buzz in and give me a wrong answer, the points and control automatically are awarded to your opponent.

When you each have four cards, we play a 15-point card double meaning -- and then award 25 points to the player with the better hand. We'll then go on to another Poker Run and play until someone reaches the goal of 100 points.

As with the earlier round, there are no cards lower than a 9. Matthias cut the cards since he finished in second place in the last Poker Run. Let's see the first two cards from the top of that deck.

(a few groans from the card)

D.J.: Well, we know a royal flush is impossible this round. The 10 of Clubs and the Jack of Clubs.

Doug: Took the words right out of my mouth. In any event, here come the first two descriptions. Give me the one word these relate to...

Used for trapping animals
Type of side drum

(Matthias buzzes in)

Doug: Matthias.

Matthias: Snare

Doug: That's right.

JOHN
MATTHIAS

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Matthias scores first. Which card?

Matthias: I'll start out with the Jack and see how I go from there.

JOHN

MATTHIAS

Doug: Very well. John, of course, gets the 10 of Clubs and we get two cards.

D.J.: The Ace of Clubs and the 9 of Hearts.

Doug: High and low up for grabs with this next pair of descriptions. Tell me the word that's connected to...

Descending of water
Season of the year also known as "autumn"

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John.

John: Fall

Doug: And we're tied at 10. (ding; audience applause) See, there's a third description. Wish of direction of gas prices. Fall. (audience laughs and applauds) Which card, John?

John: The ace of clubs

Doug: Ace goes to John.

JOHN

MATTHIAS

Doug: The 9 for Matthias. And two more cards are about to -- uh -- fall.

(light laughter from the crowd)

D.J.: The 9 of Diamonds and the Ace of Spades.

Doug: Interesting situation coming up. Next descriptions.

Last name of The Captain in The Captain and Tennille
Green creature to avoid on "Tic Tac Dough"

(Matthias buzzes in)

Doug: Matthias.

Matthias: Dragon

Doug: That's the word.

JOHN
MATTHIAS

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Now comes decision time -- the Ace or 9?

Matthias: Ace of spades.

Doug: And with that...

JOHN

MATTHIAS

Doug: ...no one can make a straight. Let's see two more cards.

D.J.: The Queen of Clubs and the Queen of Diamonds.

Doug: Well, now it's no pair and no straight draw going into the blind card question. Still, 10 important points up for grabs with this...

Adoration for someone
"Goose egg" in tennis

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John.

John: Love.

Doug: And we're tied again -- this time at 20. (ding; audience applause) Which card, please?

John: Queen of clubs.

Doug: And as I noted earlier...

JOHN

MATTHIAS

Doug: ...no pair or straight draw going into the blind cards. Matthias' hand's slightly better. So the scores can really turn on these next cards.

Doug: Now, from this moment until the end of the round, each question is worth 15 points. Here is -- what could be -- the final question from Double Meanings in this round.

Writing utensil with ink
Storage unit for your pigs

(Matthias buzzes in)

Doug: Matthias.

Matthias: Pen

Doug: Correct. (ding; audience applause) Matthias, you have a slight 35-20 lead right now. You can make it a bigger lead with a lucky pick. Left or right card?

Matthias: Take the right.

Doug: Right card it shall be.

JOHN

MATTHIAS

Doug: John, we'll start with you -- and take a look at what your last card is.

JOHN

MATTHIAS

Doug: King o' Diamonds. That's not good. Just give you Ace high. Now on to Matthias' hand. What's his last card, Deej?
