He hosted "Late Night";
now hosting "The Tonight Show"

(Matthias buzzes in)

Doug: Matthias.

Matthias: Conan O'Brien.

Doug: That's right.

JOHN
BRIAN
MATTHIAS

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: So far, so good for Conan. Saw his debut -- funny stuff. Next haiku's coming up.

Captain J.J. Jones,
that was his role in "Changeling"

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John.

John: Jeffrey Donovan

Doug: Correct.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: John and Matthias tied at 20. Brian, let's see if you can make this a three-way tie.

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John again.

John: Marilu Henner

Doug: Right again.

JOHN
BRIAN
MATTHIAS

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Brian, I see you trying to chime in. The others are just beating you to the punch. Two more before we go for the video screen. Next haiku.

She helped slaves escape
with the Underground Railroad

(Matthias buzzes in)

Doug: Matthias.

Matthias: Harriet Tubman

Doug: That's a correct answer. (ding; audience applause) I say "that's *a* correct answer" because she was born with the name Araminta Ross. That's also a five-syllable name -- and that also would've been a right answer. John and Matthias tied for the lead again -- this time at 30. Brian's going to try and narrow the gap on this last haiku...

Indy 500's
highest ranked female this year

(Brian buzzes in)

Doug: Brian.

Brian: Danica Patrick.

Doug: She finished in third place in the 2009 Indianapolis 500-mile race. That's right.

JOHN
BRIAN
MATTHIAS

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: I still like that ESPN commercial where she parks a car in a space marked "D. Patrick" -- and it was intended for then- "SportsCenter" anchor *Dan* Patrick. Funny stuff. OK, after five questions, John and Matthias are still tied at 30. Brian did narrow the gap on that last haiku with 20.

Now let's go after more points with D.J. Hamilton.

D.J.: All right, fellas. You'll each take up to two consecutive turns at the video screen. Behind these numbers, as you know, are the Ace through 9 of every suit.

On your first turn, you'll pick five cards. If you're happy with that combination, clap your hands. (light laughter from the crowd) And also pass control to another player.

But if you want to take that second turn, discard as many cards as you like and draw as many new ones.

D.J.: And as you look at this table, one pair of Queens or something better will add points to your score. Anything short of a pair of Queens means we take five points away.

Doug: And remember, any player who makes a natural royal flush in this or any other round of competition wins an instant CY$1,000,000.

(audience cheers)

Doug: First to try his hand at the video screen is Brian. Before you pick numbers, tell us about yourself.

Brian: Well, my name is Brian A. Henegar. I currently work as a security guard at a local community College. I enjoy video games, music, and I LOVE game shows, and I came to win some money!

Doug: Well, good luck here. Let's see if five numbers can make you an instant millionaire.

Brian: I will take the numbers...4, 9, 11, 16, and 21.

Doug: OK, let's have a look.

(FF reveal sfx) (scattered cheers)

Doug: Well now. Great start, Brian. Three Queens. With the other cards, we have an interesting situation. You could stop right now, take 15 points and pass control to John -- or take the second turn, discard some cards and try to do better than 15 points.

On the one hand, you're trying to improve your position ahead of the Poker Run -- but on the other hand, you need two more Hearts higher than a 9 for the royal flush and the million.

(audience shouts out suggestions)

Doug: What do you do?

Brian: I'll keep the ladies and take number 19 and 24.

(a few groans from the crowd)

Doug: Oh, like you wouldn't. (a few laughs from the crowd) OK, at least 15 more points are headed your direction. Any more?

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Nope. Ace in one corner; King in the other.

JOHN
BRIAN
MATTHIAS

(ding)

Doug: We'll see if 35 points turn into three free letters in Poker Run later. Now we have a tie between John and Matthias. Rules say player to the left goes first. John, that's you. First, we gotta shuffle.

(cards are shuffled on the video screen; after shuffling stops, the cards are covered immediately with the 24 numbers)

Doug: And the numbers are all set. John, before you take command, tell us about yourself.

John: Well Doug, I'm a student from Russellville, Arkansas. It's actually quite emotional because last week my grandmother died.

(audience groans in sorrow)

Doug: Oh, my. So sorry to hear about that. Here's hoping God brings comfort to your and your family. Five numbers, please.

John: 7, 4, 8, 15, 22
