Well, friends, you've seen the preview ep. Now it's time to get in the game. Welcome to The New Net Poker. Some notes are in order...

\ If you played in Game 37, 38 or 39, please sit on your hands and let someone else in on the fun. This would include Josh Warren, the last of the four players to make it in to our tournament of champions.

\ In a further effort to spread the wealth, I respectfully ask the other three players who participated in the Mega Playoff (Robert McBride, Todd Davis, Andy Silikovitz) to wait out Game 40. You may qualify for Game 41 at the earliest.

\ Please note the new e-mail address -- traxproductions@att.net -- it works closely with Yahoo!

Now it's on to the qualifying question. We have room for three players. So, the three closest to the right answer, high or low, get to play.

On April 18, 2009, at 5:00am Central, we recorded a rerun of "History IQ" from its first season on The History Channel, since rechristened as History. The winning contestant was awarded how much money? We're looking for the total amount earned between the main game and Timeline bonus round. Please respond to the nearest multiple of $50.

(time passes)

And the answers are all locked in and cannot be changed. Between the main and bonus games, the winning contestant racked up...

QUALIFYING ANSWER
$3250

(ding)

...3250. Not bad for a half hour's work. Who's the closest?

John Coday Hines $2950

It's John Hines. You'll be the designated champ. Next closest?

Brian Henegar $3750

It's Brian Henegar. You'll be in Position 2. And in the three spot?

Matthias Lamers $4500

Hello, Matthias. To the best of my knowledge, I don't think John and Matthias have ever been with us on Net Poker before. But they are now. They and Brian play *The New* Net Poker shortly.

Rich Jeffries: "The Celebrity Apprentice Cleans Trump Tower's Toilets"
(audience laughs) will not be seen at this time -- in order that
someone else may have a chance at an altogether different royal flush.

Rich: CY$1,000,000 could be awarded tonight -- in the game of high hands and high rewards. From CDM Enterprises, a division of Trax Productions, this is The New Net Poker.

(audience cheers)Rich: And now, here's the star of our show, Doug Morris!

(Doug walks out from behind the video poker screen)

(audience cheers) (standing ovation from the crowd)

Doug: Thank you, Rich. Thanks, audience, for that great welcome. Welcome to The *New* Net Poker. This is our 40th regular episode of Net Poker, the first under our new rules -- and this game's been around now for *six* great years. (more cheers) I say this often -- but I mean it every time. I couldn't have made it this far, this long, with out you.

I also could have made it without our lovely dealer, D.J. Hamilton.

(audience cheers) (D.J. walks out wearing the little black dress) (Doug and D.J. hug)

D.J.: And I thank ya'll for joining us all these year of Net Poker. Here to help start our third season are tonight's players, John Coday Hines, Brian Henegar and Matthias Lamers.

(audience cheers)

Doug: Players, you're here on a great night. We have an Outlaw's Jackpot worth CY$75,000. We have a side pot for CY$10,000. *And* we have a new theme of questioning to start our first round of Video Poker.

GUESS WHO
WITH HAIKU

Doug: Guess Who With Haiku. No, we didn't summarize "These Eyes" in 17 syllables. (audience laughs) But, 17 syllables due come into play with each query.

Here's how this works. As with normal haiku, the first of three lines of text total five syllables, the next line seven syllables and the last line five syllables.

With our haiku, we'll give you the first two lines, which serve as clues to a famous person whose first and last names total five syllables; that name, of course, will make up that third line in the haiku. To be credited with a right answer, you have to chime in and give me the first and last names.

For example, if we gave you these first two lines...

Former senator,
now 44th President

...you buzz in and respond Barack Obama. We'll play one more example...

Bikini girl
of "American Idol"

...the correct answer here is Katrina Darrell.

Let's go ahead and give each of you 10 points to start.

JOHN
BRIAN
MATTHIAS

Doug: Each haiku is worth an additional 10 points. If you buzz in and give me a wrong name or only give me a partial name, we deduct 10 points from your score *and* we go on to the next haiku.

Best of luck and away we go...
