5-Card Poker

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Rich: All of tonight's players receive a copy of Net Poker: The Home Game. Make winning hands, battle against the outlaws and hit big jackpots. Net Poker: The Home Game -- now available at http://basicgames.folff.com -- from Eastland Entertainment and Trax Productions.

And now, Barry and Eddie try to stay in the game in 5-Card Poker. Back to Doug Morris and Net Poker.

(audience applause)

BARRY
EDDIE

Doug: Thank you, Rich and welcome back to Net Poker. During the break, Barry cut the cards for this round. We also reset the players' scores to zero. Let's see what our theme is for this round.

THREE OF A KIND

Doug: Three of a Kind. I'll list three items -- and you tell me what they have in common. For example, if I said "Kings, Queens, Jacks", what would you say, Deej?

D.J.: I'm the dealer so I'd better get this. Face cards.

Doug: Indeed. Face cards in a standard deck of playing cards. One more example: "Bart, Lisa, Maggie".

D.J.: The kids on "The Simpsons".

Doug: Or you could've said Homer and Marge Simpson's children. So that's how the theme works.

Every time you buzz in with the right answer, you earn 10 points and the right to choose one of two up cards for your poker hand. The other card will go to your opponent by default.

We'll keep playing until you each have four cards. We'll then deal out the fifth pair of cards face down and play a 15-point blind card question.

Player who ends up with the better hand wins 25 points. But it's the player with the better score that wins the round and goes to Joker Poker to try and stop Josh's winning ways.

Let's see those first two cards for this elimination round.

D.J.: The 9 of Diamonds and the 10 of Diamonds.

Doug: Ew, modest beginning. OK, tell me what these three have in common.

Aramis, Porthos, Athos

(Barry buzzes in)

Doug: Barry.

Barry: They are the Three Musketeers (from Dumas).

Doug: That's right. (audience applause) First 10 points of the round for you. Which card would you like?

Barry: I will take the 10 of diamonds.

Doug: No kiddin'.

EDDIE

Doug: BTW, should *Barry* make a royal flush this round, he's in the tournament with CY$100,000 and a car to boot. Next cards, please.

D.J.: The Jack of Hearts and the Ace of Clubs.

Doug: Uhhhhh, nevermind. (light laughter from the crowd) Next trio.

Bryan Adams, Sting, Rod Stewart

(Barry buzzes in)

Doug: Barry again.

Barry: They sang "All for One" from the movie Three Musketeers -- oddly enough.

Doug: He's all over it and right.

EDDIE

(audience applause)

Barry: I almost said they were all d-bags.

(light laughter from the crowd)

Doug: Oh, you haven't seen d-bags 'til you've met this guy. Put that pic of Fred Scott Sands, deadbeat at large, fellers!

D E A D B E A T   A L E R T !

Doug: Now *he's* who I call a d-bag. (audience cheers) Which card would you like?

Barry: Gotta go with the Ace.

Doug: All righty then...

BARRY

EDDIE

Doug: ...both players are 2/5 of the way toward a straight. Next cards, please.

D.J.: The King of Clubs and the Ace of Diamonds.

Doug: Two high cards -- but Eddie could use some points. Next trio.

Captain Kirk, Captain Picard, Captain Archer

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: Captains of various versions of starships called 'Enterprise' in the Star Trek universe.

Doug: *He's* all over it -- and right on.

BARRY
EDDIE

(audience applause)

Doug: By the way, we needed that specific an answer -- as long as a player's response included "Star Trek", "Enterprise" and "captains", "leaders" or something to that effect, we'd rule that player correct. 'Cause we know how much of a stickler Judge Von Erik is.

(audience laughs)

Doug: Eddie, which card?

Eddie: Can't let Barry have a pair of bullets. I'll take the ace.

Doug: Playing a little defense.

BARRY

EDDIE

Doug: OK, Barry has Ace-King-10. Eddie's working on Ace-Jack-9. Eddie's out of the running for a straight. No one has a pair as yet. Two more cards, please

D.J. The King of Spades and the 9 of Hearts.

Doug: All right. Next trio.

Linda Gray, Victoria Principal, Patrick Duffy

(Barry buzzes in)

Doug: Barry.

Barry: Cast members of Dallas.

Doug: Correct-a-mundo.

BARRY
EDDIE

(audience applause)

Doug: Pity "Bingo America" won't be doing a reunion week of "Dallas". (light laughter from the crowd) "Home Improvement" -- maybe another story. Barry, pick a card, please.

Barry: I would take the KING.

Doug: All right. Both players working on a pair going into the 15-pointer...

BARRY

EDDIE

Doug: ...Barry with a pair of Kings plus an Ace and 10, Eddie with two 9s plus an Ace and Jack. Final two cards for the round, please.

Doug: The final cards for the round come face down. Player who scores on this next question earns 15 points. Eddie, you need to score these points in order to stay in the game. Barry, if you collect these points, you automatically win the round. Here comes the next trio...

John Garner, Harry Truman, Henry Wallace

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: F.D.R.'s Vice-Presidents.

Doug: That's -- fine. Vice-Presidents who served under Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

BARRY
EDDIE

(audience applause)

Doug: All right, Eddie. You've got to hope one of those cards is good for you and the other isn't so good for Barry. Left or right?

Eddie: I'll cross my fingers and take the right.

Doug: Right card it is.

BARRY

EDDIE

Doug: Eddie, we'll turn over your last card first. If it's a 9, you'll have trips. Another Ace or Jack give you two pair. Anything else and Barry's going to Joker Poker. Let's see Eddie's last card.

BARRY

EDDIE

(audience cheers)

Doug: Woah! Third 9. Barry, suddenly, the pressure's on. Your last card has to be a King. Deej, show us that last card for Barry.
