Video Poker

D.J.: celebrity, rodents

(Josh buzzes in)

Doug: Josh.

Josh: I'll say star and rats

Doug: And I'll say you have 10 more points.

(audience applause)

Doug: Let's move right along to the clues for the second pair of passwords.

D.J.: rewrite, Alabama

(Josh buzzes in)

Doug: Josh again.

Josh: I'll go with edit and tide -- as in the Crimson Tide.

Doug: He's all over it and correct.

(audience applause)

[NOTE FROM DOUG: While this theme would require correct spellings, I'll be lenient on capitalization.]

Doug: "Rewrite" is another word for "edit". Spell that backwards and you get "Tide", a longtime shortened nickname for the University of Alabama's athletics teams. Ian and Michael, I see you two trying to buzz in. Josh has the hot hand so far. Let's get two more clues to the next pair of back and forth passwords.

D.J.: retain, preview

(Josh buzzes in)

Doug: Josh again.

Josh: keep and peek

Doug: Right again.

(audience applause)

Doug: Ian and Michael, hang in there, there's a lot of game left. Next to last passwords on the way. Deej, the clues, please.

D.J.: weapons, tight

(Michael buzzes in)

Doug: And Michael breaks through.

Michael: guns and snug

Doug: Right on.

JOSH
IAN
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: All right, one more pair of passwords to go. Let's see who gets the last 10 points from the passwords before we go to the video screen. The clues, please.

D.J.: portion, capture

(Josh buzzes in)

Doug: Josh.

Josh: part and trap

Doug: Right for 10 more.

JOSH
IAN
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: Wow. Josh with a big 50, Michael with 20 and Ian with 10. However, a high hand at the video screen can really turn things around for anyone. Deej, tell 'em where they go from here.

D.J.: All right, players. You'll each take up to two consecutive turns at the video screen. On your first turn, you'll choose five numbers and we'll reveal the cards behind them. As always, we have nothing lower than a 9 in the main game.

If you like the combination those cards make, take the points associated with the hand and pass control on to another player. If you think you can do better, take that second turn and exchange any or all cards for new ones. Once you take that second turn, you're stuck with whatever points you get.

D.J.: Remember, you need at least a pair of Queens to gain any points at all. Anything less than two Queens and you'll lose 5 points.

Doug: And remember, if you make a natural royal flush in this or any other round, you win CY$100,000 plus this spiffy prize.

(new car music plays)

Rich: For your driving enjoyment, IT'S A BRAND NEW CAR! (audience cheers) The Porsche Boxster. This high performance roadster offers dynamic styling and thrills aplenty. Comes with a 2.7 liter H6 240 horsepower engine -- plus five-speed automatic transmission, trunk anti-trap device, all-speed traction control and much more.

(music fades)

Doug: All right. Ian, you'll go first. Before we turn you loose, tell the nice folks gathered here today a little something about yourself.

Ian: I'm Ian Laudato. I'm originally from the Philippines and my friend is in the audience.

(friend says "Go Ian")

Doug: Let's see if you can make your friend proud with five good numbers.

Ian: 2 24 23 22 12

Doug: He picks a 2 and then four numbers with at least a 2 included therein. Let's have a look behind those numbers.

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Almost a straight. But even a straight won't do you any good. A full boat is worth 40 points. You need a full house or better to stay in this round. Tough choice -- what do you do?

Ian: I'll exchange 22 23 24 to 21 6 and 4.

Doug: OK, hanging on to the Kings. What's joining the cowboys?

(FF reveal sfx) (audience groans)

Doug: Oh, Ian! So close. Found another King -- but you needed either a fourth King or a matching pair of something else.

JOSH
IAN
MICHAEL

Doug: I'll give you 15 points for the trip Kings. But you'll definitely be in 5-Card Poker. Michael, it's time to shuffle the cards for you.

(cards are shuffled on the video screen; after shuffling stops, the cards are covered immediately with the 24 numbers)

Doug: I know you want to do better than the CY$2200 you won in our fifth anniversary special. But before you take command, for those who weren't with us in the first season, tell those folks about yourself.

Michael: My name is Michael Clifford. I am from Marlton, New Jersey. I am currently unemployed. I like watching game shows and playing netgames. I just turned 26, so I'm ready to have a happy birthday when I win. Also, I would like to say hi to my favorite DOND model Jill Manas if she's watching us over the Internet. Hi Jill! You're my favorite!

Doug: So that was *your* car with the tag "JM12ROX". (light laughter from the crowd) But alas, that was a show from days gone by. Five numbers, please.

Michael: Let's go with 2, 19, 22, 14, and of course, the Jill Manas number: 12.

Doug: Of course, go with 12. What's behind all those numbers?

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Well, essentially the same problem Ian had. Decent hand, bad time for it. Two pair give you 10 points. Now a 25-point flush keeps you in the game mathematically. Any hand ranking higher than a flush would give you the lead with Josh yet to take possession. What are ya exchangin'?

Michael: Shows what you know! I don't even drive a car! (audience laughs) I gotta go for the full boat. Let's exchange the Jack with what's behind 21.

Doug: Thought ya might. Does 21 hide a Queen or Jack?
