Video Poker

Doug: Josh, before we turn you loose, let's get your story.

Josh: Hello, I'm Josh Warren, I am a student at CSU East Bay studying Computer Science, and I work for the Department of Energy as an IT Technician.

Doug: Sounds like you're the first one I need to call in case this video screen goes down on us. I'm sure you don't want the screen to let you down. Pick five numbers for me, please.

Josh: I'll take 7, 11, 21, 14, and 3 please

Doug: OK, let's have a look.

(FF reveal sfx)

(scattered groans from the crowd)

Doug: Yeah, I know what you're thinking. If only the Jack and 10 were of Clubs.

That's a good hand, Josh. Unfortunately, this is the wrong time for a 20-point straight to crop up. To reiterate, you're going to need a full boat, four of a kind, a straight flush or royal flush.

Tough decision. How do you play it?

Josh: Points don't carry over to the next round right?

Doug: Points do not carry over. When a new round starts, its participants start level-pegging.

Josh: I might as well go for it. I think I'll keep the clubs, and take # 9 and 24. (audience cheers) C'mon Straight Flush!

Doug: He's calling his shot, folks...

if

Josh

(FF reveal sfx) (Trivia Trap sfx) (loud groans from the crowd)

Doug: Woah! Josh, so close. You end up with a pair of 9s which means I gotta dock ya a nickel. Todd, you win the round.

JOSH
CHRIS

(audience applause; Super Pay Cards round victory music plays)

Doug: Before we go *any* further, Josh, I have to ask -- do you or do you not want to know where the 10 of Clubs was?

Josh: Sure lets see where it is!

Doug: All right. He needed to go to 24 and what other number to complete the straight flush?

(FF reveal sfx) (loud groans from the crowd)

Doug: The 10 of Clubs was just above the Jack. Well, Josh and Chris, better luck in the next round.

Doug: Right now, we want to wish good luck to Todd in finding CY$5000. It's hiding behind one of the letters in "POKER". Which letter?

Todd: R please.

Doug: R it is. What's there?

(rimshot; ca-ching) (winning bells; audience cheers)

Doug: Oh yeah, CY$5000.

CHRIS

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Doug: The rich just get richer. Josh and Chris, I hope you're up on your musical knowledge. Because the next round tests your knowledge of support groups. I know it sounds like the setup to an episode of "Behind The Music" -- but it's not. 5-Card Poker's next -- when Net Poker rolls on.

(audience cheers)
