5-Card Poker

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Rich: All of tonight's players receive a copy of Net Poker: The Home Game. Make winning hands, battle against the outlaws and hit big jackpots. Net Poker: The Home Game -- now available at http://basicgames.folff.com -- from Eastland Entertainment and Trax Productions.

And now, Andy and Michael try to stay alive in 5-Card Poker. Back to Doug Morris and Net Poker.

(audience applause)

Doug: Thanks, Rich. Andy and Michael, you both know how to play 5-Card Poker. But I need to tell you a little about this round's theme -- because you've never played...

DOUBLE MEANINGS

Doug: ...the Double Meanings category. I'll give you two meanings of a single word -- and you give me the word.

For example, if I gave you "Metal rod used for stirring fire" and "Card game that's the basis for this show", you would buzz in and say "Poker".

Another example, "Buyer and seller of cars" and "Distributor of cards at your poker home game" lead to the word "Dealer".

Now, if you buzz in with the right word, you earn 10 points and a choice of card. As before, the card you decline goes to your opponent. After you each have collected four cards, we'll play a 15-point blind card question involving another pair of meanings. Player who makes the better hand earns 25 points. High scorer goes on to play against David for the championship.

Michael cut the cards during the break. Also during the break, Deej took her skates off for her safety's sake. So let's see those first two cards.

D.J.: The King of Diamonds and the Jack of Clubs

Doug: And here's the first pair of meanings. Remember, they lead to a single word...

Tournament prize money
Container of a woman's money

(Andy buzzes in)

Doug: Andy.

Andy: Purse

Doug: That's right.

ANDY
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: And Andy's on the board first. Which card?

Andy: King me.

Doug: Had a hunch the winner of this first question...

ANDY

MICHAEL

Doug: ...would take the cowboy. Michael gets the knave. Two more cards, please.

D.J.: The Queen of Diamonds and the Queen of Hearts.

Doug: Interesting situation developing already. Pair of ladies in red with this next pair of meanings...

Group of fish
Place where students learn

(Michael buzzes in)

Doug: Michael.

Michael: school

Doug: Right for a tie. (audience applause) You passed that test, Michael. Which card?

Michael: I'm going to take the Queen of Hearts because I don't think there's gonna be any more diamonds coming up.

Doug: Interesting play...

ANDY

MICHAEL

Doug: ...we'll see if that was generous. Deej?

(a few woos)

D.J.: Ah ha. Ace of Diamonds and the King of Hearts.

Doug: OK. We move on.

Sharp blow by fist
Beverage served at parties

(Michael buzzes in)

Doug: Michael.

Michael: punch

Doug: That's right.

ANDY
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: Michael takes the lead -- and which card would you like now?

Michael: I'm going to take the Ace & hope that another Ace comes up.

Doug: And that officially breaks up Andy's bid for a royal flush.

ANDY

MICHAEL

Doug: He'll have to win this round in order to have a chance at re-entry into the tourney. Now for two more cards and we'll see if there are any more Diamonds.

D.J.: Well, maybe this makes Andy feel better. The Queen of Spades and the King of Clubs.

Doug: No hope for a royal anyway. OK, let's concentrate on the game and this next pair of definitions.

Adoration for another person
"Goose egg" in tennis

(Andy buzzes in)

Doug: Andy.

Andy: Love

Doug: Yes indeed. (audience applause)Tie ballgame again. Andy, which card would you like?

Andy: Queen

Doug: The -- *Queen* -- interesting.

(D.J. looking perplexed as Doug as she places the cards on the board) (murmuring from the crowd)

ANDY

MICHAEL

Doug: Andy passing up a chance to have *three Kings* going into the blind card question. And if I'm not mistaken, Andy would've won it automatically. So, Michael, consider this a reprieve from the governor.

OK, blind card time...

Doug: ...15 points at stake -- and then we award 25 for the high hand. Play carefully as we go to this next pair of meanings.

Bird's limb
Offstage area

(Andy buzzes in)

Doug: Andy.

Andy: Wing

Doug: Correct.

ANDY
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: Well, Andy has the control of the cards. Which one would you like?

Andy: The right card

Doug: Right it is...

ANDY

MICHAEL

Doug: OK, the real issue here is -- has Michael's hand been completed with a 10? That's the only thing that will keep him in business -- and we have not seen any 10s as yet. If we see one here, then we have to check Andy's final card. If not, we know Andy's going for the undefeated championship in Joker Poker. Deej, flip Michael's last card first.

ANDY

MICHAEL

(groans from the crowd)

Doug: Close -- a 9. But it only gives you Ace high. Andy wins the round. (winning bells; audience applause) What was Andy's last card, just for grins?

ANDY

MICHAEL

Doug: Good night. Look at that! Four ingredients for a royal in Diamonds. Well, this round had a bit of everything. And if that's any indication, Joker Poker should be fun.

Michael, great game as always. Unfortunately, we have to send you back to Jersey with CY$200. There are also nice parting gifts headed your way -- and all this applause.

(audience applause)

Doug: Andy, one round away from a return trip to the tourney. Right now, a pit stop for possibly CY$5000. You saw David do it. Time for you to do it. Which letter in "POKER" has that five-grand?

Andy: P for Phillies

Doug: P for Phillies it is. What's that letter worth?

(rimshot; ca-ching)

Doug: Well, CY$1000.

ANDY
MICHAEL

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Doug: An even 30-large for Andy -- but a lot at stake for him in the final round. Will Andy drive outta here in a new car with 100-grand in the trunk? The answer -- after this.

(audience applause)
