Audience Game

OK, audience game time. As always, it doesn't matter when you've played the main game. The three people closest to the right answer, high or low, get to play. Here's the query...

It's time once again to play The Price Per Gallon Is Right. Based on the actual retail price of a 1.5 ounce bottle of Scope, how much would you have to pay for one gallon of the mouthwash? Please respond in dollars and cents.

(time passes)

And that's time. Your showcase of one gallon of Scope is worth...

QUALIFYING ANSWER
$84.48

(ding)

...eighty-four big ones and forty-eight little ones. Who's
the closest?

Michael Clifford $84.48

Wow, right on the money. Too bad you're not entitled to
a double showcase win. Next closest.

Joseph Bohan     $54.40

The colonel reports for duty. And joining them is...

Matt Taylor 	 $28.50

...Matt. Thanks to everyone for playing.

School boy: (thumbing through dictionary) "Tsar power -- what Ivan
the terrible had." What kind of dictionary is this?

Rich Jeffries: A dictionary of puns, of course. Coming in 2008 from
CDM Enterprises, it's Net Definition. Only on VBS.

(smooth jazz theme plays)

D.J.: We're about to go into the fast lane for tonight's audience game. Here to play are Michael Clifford, Joseph Bohan and Matt Taylor.

(audience cheers)

Doug: All right, thanks Deej and welcome players. We're playing Grand Prix in tonight's audience game.

ACES=200 miles
FACES=100 miles
NUMBERS=50 miles
Car's odometer cannot
exceed 500 miles.

Doug: Two cars are in the race -- a black car and and a red car. In a moment, D.J. is going to draw cards from the top of a new deck. As always, we have nothing lower than a 9 in the deck.

If she draw a Heart or Diamond, we add mileage to the red car's odometer. A Spade or Club adds miles to the black car's odometer. The rank of the card determines how much mileage we add.

Aces are worth 200 miles each, face cards are worth 100 and 10s and 9s are worth 50 miles each.

The first car to reach 500 miles wins the race. And a car's odometer cannot go over 500. In other words, if D.J. draws an Ace of Spades and the black car has 450 miles, that car stays at 450 and we disregard the Ace.

Now, before we start the race, you have to predict the winner -- the black or the red car. A correct prediction wins or shares in CY$3000. Player with the most cyber-money wins -- and if necessary, we'll go to Dice Poker to break any tie for the lead.

So, who's going to win -- red or black?

MICHAEL
JOSEPH
MATT

Doug: Votes are in. Michael and Joseph pick the black car. Matt goes with the red. (grabs green flag) Gentlemen, start your engines. (waves flag) Let's start!

(D.J. draws card)

Doug: Woah! And a big start for the red car.

Doug: Black's still at the starting line. Red's more than halfway home and could win the race on this next card.

Doug: Well, black car finally gets the engines going. Red's still in striking distance.

Doug: OK, gap is narrowed.

Doug: Oh, wow. Hope for Michael and Joseph. Had that been the Ace of *Hearts*, I would've waved the checkers. Next card.

Doug: A 9 for the black car. Fifty miles away from the finish line. Next card could win for either car.

Doug: Now the red car forward. Let's see that next card.

Doug: Can't give the win to black. That would put it over 500.

Doug: Same story, different car.

(winning bells; audience applause)

Doug: And there's the winner for black.

MICHAEL
JOSEPH
MATT

Doug: Wow, Matt. I thought it was going to a blitz win for you. But it wasn't meant to be. The other car came back from behind to win it. But, you do receive CY$400 for the 400 miles the car traveled. A nice hand for Matt Taylor.

(audience applause)

Doug: Michael, Joseph, let's break this tie!
