Joker Poker

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Rich: The championship's on the line. Kourtney and Alan play Joker Poker where one of them could instantly win a trip to San Francisco. Back to Doug Morris and Net Poker.

(audience applause)

Doug: Thanks, Rich. And in this round, the winner will earn *two* punches at the Punchboard.

KOURTNEY
ALAN

Doug: Kourtney, Alan, both CY$10,000 prizes are still there -- so one of you could be CY$20,000 richer before going on to the Deuces Wild round for CY$62,500.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
MULTIPLE CHOICE

Doug: As always, the theme of the Joker Poker round is General Knowledge Multiple Choice -- meaning the odds of me asking a question about "The Price is Right" in this round are about as good as Jim Tressel wearing a blue and gold sweater.

(audience laughs)

Doug: Although I root for Ohio State and Cindy was a big Buckeyes fan, I do have to say in all honesty the sports world lost a great gentleman in Bo Schembechler. (audience respectfully applauds) Woody Hayes and Bo really shaped that Ohio State/Michigan rivalry and I hope somehow some way Cindy's had a chance to talk football with those great coaches in Heaven.

But, back to the game, in this round, I'll give you a question with four possible answers. The last two are always "all of the above" and "none of the above". Each time you buzz in with the right answer, you earn 10 points and the right to choose an up card. As in the 5-Card Poker round, the card you decline goes to your opponent.

As the name Joker Poker implies, there are two Jokers in the deck. If you collect a Joker, you may use it for anything when your hand is complete.

High scorer wins the game. Good luck and let's get to it with these two cards.

D.J.: And because Kourtney won the first round, he cut the deck for this round. The first two cards from the top of that deck are the Ace of Hearts and the 9 of Clubs.

Doug: The yin and the yang, as I like to call them. First question in the round for 10 points.

In the year 1961,...
\ Mattel introduced the Ken doll
\ the first Kmart opened
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Alan buzzes in)

Doug: Alan.

Alan: Mattel introduced the Ken doll

Doug: That's right.

KOURTNEY
ALAN

(audience applause)

Doug: First Kmart opened near Detroit in 1962. I wonder if it's still open. (light laughter from the crowd) Which card, Alan?

Alan: gimme the ace

Doug: Somehow I'm not surprised.

KOURTNEY

ALAN

Doug: Kourtney gets the 9 and we have two more cards on the way.

D.J.: The 9 of Diamonds and the King of Clubs.

Doug: Well, Kourtney could either have a pair or be building on a flush.

Before "The O'Reilly Factor", Bill O'Reilly was anchor of...
\ "Hard Copy"
\ "Inside Report"
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Alan buzzes in)

Doug: Alan.

Alan: none of the above

Doug: That's right. (audience applause) Bill anchored "Inside Edition". Which card would you like now?

Alan: gotta go for the block and take the 9

Doug: Go for the block? When did this become the Net Poker - Match Game - Hollywood Squares Hour and a Half? (light laughter)

KOURTNEY

ALAN

Doug: I should note NMG-HSH will be back up and running soon. Two more cards, please.

D.J.: The King of Hearts and the Queen of Hearts.

Doug: Cowboy and his lady. Kourtney, that King he gave you could end up being a *real* gift. Next query...

For public television, Ken Burns produced documentaries about...
\ the American Civil War
\ baseball
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Kourtney buzzes in)

Doug: Kourtney

Kourtney: The answer is all the above.

Doug: That it is.

KOURTNEY
ALAN

(audience applause)

Doug: You're on the board. Which card would you like?

Kourtney: It would be the King of heart for me.

KOURTNEY

ALAN

Doug: You may thank Alan later. But, then again, one of these next two cards could be to his advantage. Let's see them now.

D.J.: The Jack of Hearts and the Queen of Spades.

Doug: And no Jokers? Heh. OK, next query...

When making a list of former governors of California, you must include...
\ Ronald Reagan
\ Richard Nixon
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Alan buzzes in)

Doug: Alan.

Alan: Ronald Reagan

Doug: Right you are.

KOURTNEY
ALAN

(audience applause)

Doug: Nixon ran for the that office -- but lost to Pat Brown. Alan, which card?

Alan: gimme the Queen

Doug: Lady in black's yours...

KOURTNEY

ALAN

Doug: ...and going into the blind card question, Kourtney has a better hand with two Kings. Alan has the better score with two Queens in his hand. Final two cards for the main game.

Doug: Kourtney, you will have to buzz in and score on this question in order to have a chance to win the game. Alan, if you buzz in with the right answer, you'll put the game out of reach. Important query on the way...

Participating in Super Bowl XX were the...
\ Dallas Cowboys
\ Pittsburgh Steelers
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Kourtney buzzes in)

Doug: Kourtney.

Kourtney: I am going to say none of the above.

Doug: That's right.

KOURTNEY
ALAN

(audience applause)

Doug: Chicago and New England were in that game. Da Bears won big 46-10. Score here is 30 to 25 Alan's favor. But the game, Kourtney, is in your hands right now. Which card do you think will win you the game -- left or right?

Kourtney: left card please.

KOURTNEY

ALAN

Doug: Left card is yours. Alan, let's check your right card. An Ace, Queen or 9 would help your cause. Of course, we haven't seen any Jokers this round. Let's see that right card.

KOURTNEY

ALAN

Doug: It's a 10. Sorry Alan, but Kourtney's hand already is better than yours. Kourtney Wilson's our new champion.

KOURTNEY
ALAN

(winning bells; audience applause)

Doug: Kourtney, we'll be back to you shortly. Alan, you didn't win the game -- but you've made Net Poker history. You are the first player to win cyber-money in each of our three main game rounds -- CY$500 bonus from Video Poker, CY$2000 for winning 5-Card Poker and CY$10 per point for this round. It all adds up to CY$2800 and all of this applause.

(audience applause)

Doug: Kourtney, come on over...

D.J.: Uh, Doug? Aren't you forgetting something? (points to Kourtney's last card)

Doug: Oh, that's right. Let's see what Kourtney's last card was for the heck of it.

KOURTNEY

ALAN

(a few groans)

Doug: Oh, man! Kourtney, if you went with the right card, Alan would've had three ladies plus the win -- and you would've had only two cowboys. Now you should feel *real* fortunate you're coming to join me here at the Punchboard.
