5-Card Poker

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Rich: All of tonight's players receive a copy of Net Poker: The Home Game. Make winning hands, battle against the outlaws and hit big jackpots. Net Poker: The Home Game -- now available at http://basicgames.folff.com -- from Eastland Entertainment and Trax Productions.

(audience applause)

Doug: All right, we've got another TPiR theme for this 5-Card Poker round between Jay and Alan -- but first, Rich, as promised...

Rich: Yes?

Doug: ...you were part of *this* priceless moment. Roll that clip.

(audience cheers)

Doug: Yes, that was Rich on an interim assignment following the death of Johnny Olson and before Rod Roddy took over for about the next decade and a half.

IN OTHER
PRICELESS WORDS

Doug: OK, let's start our 5-Card Poker round -- revolved around the theme "In Other Priceless Words". I'll name something associated with "The Price is Right" -- but I'll express it in other words. It's up to you to figure out what I'm talking about. For example, if we gave you "Highest Priced", you buzz in and say "Most Expensive". Terms, items, names of pricing games, *anything* that has appeared in at least one episode of "The Price is Right" is fair game.

Each time you buzz in with the right answer, you earn 10 points and the right to select one of two up cards for your poker hand. As always, the card you decline goes to your opponent. After you've each collected four cards, we go to a blind card question for 15 points. High hand is worth 25 points.

Player with the higher score goes on to Joker Poker to play against Kourtney. So, let's see our first two cards.

Rich: Top two cards of the deck Alan cut -- come on down!

(audience laughs)

D.J.: Hadn't forgotten a thing. Just like riding a bike. The Queen of Spades and the Queen of Clubs.

Doug: (laughs) Okie doke. Here's your first clue...

The Incorrect Cost

(Jay buzzes in)

Doug: Jay.

Jay: One Wrong Price

Doug: That's correct.

JAY
ALAN

(audience applause)

Doug: Champ strikes first. Which lady?

Jay: Queen of spades.

Doug: Queen of Spades is yours.

JAY

ALAN

Doug: Alan gets the Queen of Clubs. Let's see the next two cards.

D.J.: I was waiting on Rich to call these next cards to come on down.

(light laughter from the crowd)

Rich: It would get a little tedious after awhile.

D.J.: The King of Hearts and the Jack of Hearts.

Doug: OK, more royalty at stake. Next clue.

A Trio of "Family Feud" Red X's

(Jay buzzes in)

Doug: Jay.

Jay: 3 Strikes

Doug: That's it. (audience applause) Score's 20-0. Which card, champ?

Jay: I'll go with the King of Hearts.

Doug: Cowboy for Jay.

JAY

ALAN

Doug: Alan gets a Jack. More royalty coming?

D.J.: Nope -- but better. The Ace of Diamonds and the Ace of Spades.

Doug: Well, you'll each get a rocket -- but Alan could use some points. Let's see if he scores with this...

Sir Edmund Hillary

(Alan buzzes in)

Doug: Alan.

Alan: Cliffhanger

Doug: Sorry, not right. Jay, chance to steal the points.

Jay: Hmm, I thought that would be it. I'll try Step Up.

Doug: Makes sense -- but wrong. Remember, we're expressing anything and everything related to TPiR in other words. It's not limited to pricing games.

In this case, Sir Edmund Hillary is a famous -- "mountain climber". (audience groans) I'm just the messenger, folks. Bob talks about a mountain climber the start of each game of Cliff Hangers. So "mountain climber" is the right answer. OK, same Aces are up for grabs. Jay still has Queen-King, Alan with Queen-Jack. Jay's leading by 20. Here's the next clue.

Wealthy Pastures

(Alan buzzes in)

Doug: Alan.

Alan: Rich Fields

Doug: That's right.

JAY
ALAN

(audience applause)

Doug: Maybe we have a clue with our Rich later. (light laughter from the crowd) At least we have the evidence he was part of an episode. Alan, which Ace?

Alan: Ace of Spades

Doug: Spaded Ace goes to you...

JAY

ALAN

Doug: ...Jay gets the other Ace. No one has a pair as yet -- but you're both 3/5 of the way toward a straight. Two more cards.

D.J.: More royalty -- King of Clubs and the Queen of Hearts.

Doug: Well, one of you is assured of a pair of Queens after this clue...

Simple Like I, II, III

(Alan buzzes in)

Doug: Alan.

Alan: Eazy as 1,2,3

Doug: That's right.

(audience applause)

[Note from Doug: The child's room motif of the game leads to the title of the game expressed as "Eazy az 1 2 3" with apparent backward s's in said title. In keeping with our leniency on such matter and because an exact spelling wasn't requested, Alan gets credit for a right answer.]

Doug: OK, Alan, tie score. You're in a bit of a predicament. Which card do you think will help you?

Alan: I'll take the Queen

Doug: Very well.

JAY

ALAN

Doug: You have two ladies -- but Jay has two cowboys. Let's set up for the blind card question.

Doug: Fifteen points at stake -- but ultimately control of the cards is what your after. High hand wins 25 points and the round. Here's the blind card clue.

Higher/Lower

(Jay buzzes in)

Doug: Jay.

Jay: Bonus Game?

Doug: Sorry, not right. Alan, chance to steal.

Alan: Hi/Lo

Doug: Eh... judge? (ding) OK.

JAY
ALAN

(audience applause)

Doug: The answer I had was "More or Less" -- but Alan gets credit for a right answer. Alan gets to choose the card.

Alan: left card

Doug: The left it is.

JAY

ALAN

Doug: We have the hands in place. Alan, a Jack, Ace or Queen would help your cause. Anything else and Jay goes on the final round. Let's see the last card.

JAY

ALAN

Doug: The Jack of Spades giving you two pair. Now, Jay, anything higher than a Jack sends you to the final round.

JAY

ALAN

Doug: It's a 10 and Alan wins it.

JAY
ALAN

(winning bells; audience applause)

Doug: Alan, congratulations. We'll take you over to the Punchboard shortly.

Jay, good news. The judge is starting to second guess himself on the ruling he made on that last clue. I tend to think accepting an answer of "Hi/Lo" for the clue "Higher/Lower" is too much of a giveaway. And Judge Von Eric is thinking that same way.

Further, had you scored on that question and gotten control of the left card, you would've won.

So, *once again*, we'll say bye for now -- but let you play in the next main game. Don't stray too far off and we'll see you soon. Jay Cross, everyone. (audience applause) Alan, come see me here at the Punchboard.
