5-Card Poker

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Rich: Any player who makes a natural royal flush in any round of Net Poker wins CY$100,000 and this brand new car. The Dodge Viper is driving pleasure at its best. It comes with all the standard features plus front-wheel drive, 5-speed manual transmission, AM-FM stereo with 10-disc CD changer and much more. (audience cheers) And now, back to Doug Morris and Net Poker.

(music fades)

Doug: Thanks, Rich. Jay and Joseph, the two J's, are about to play 5-Card Poker where the theme is...

THREE OF A KIND

Doug: ...Three of a Kind. I'll name three items that fit a common bond. All you have to do is identify the common bond.

For example, if I named Huey, Dewey and Louie, you'd buzz in and say they're Donald Duck's nephews.

Each time you buzz in with the right answer, you earn 10 points and the right to choose one of two up cards for your hand. Remember, the card you decline goes to your opponent.

We'll keep playing like that until you each have four cards. We'll then have the fifth pair of cards up for grabs face down and play a 15-point blind card question. The player who ends up with the better hand wins 25 points -- and the high scorer goes to the final round.

Joseph, since you finished in second place in Video Poker, you got to cut the cards. Let's see the first two cards from the top of the deck he cut.

D.J.: We start with the Jack of Hearts and the King of Clubs.

Doug: And here's the first question of the round. Remember, we're looking for what these three have in common...

Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul

(Jay buzzes in)

Doug: Jay

Jay: American Idol judges

Doug: That's right.

JAY
JOSEPH

(audience applause)

Doug: Cindy really loved AI. Which face card?

Jay: King of clubs

JAY

JOSEPH

Doug: Joseph will collect the Jack in the process. Next two cards.

(a few woos from the crowd)

D.J.: The Jack of Clubs and the 9 of Diamonds.

Doug: Interesting development early on. Next trio...

Butcher, baker, candlestick maker

(Joseph buzzes in)

Doug: Joseph

Joseph: The three men in a tub

Doug: That's right. (audience applause) Tie score, Joseph. Which card?

(time passes) (buzz)

Doug: Oh, for the second time in Net Poker history, a player takes up too much time choosing a card. (reaches into pocket; pulls out dime) So, I flip a coin. Heads means Joseph gets the left card -- or the Jack in the case; tails and he gets the right card -- the 9.

(Doug flips coin in air; let's it land on floor)

Doug: And it comes up -- heads. So, we give Joseph the Jack.

JAY

JOSEPH

Doug: Jay gets the 9 and we get two more cards.

D.J.: We've got the Ace of Hearts and the King of Hearts.

Doug: Two Hearts and 10 points at stake -- with this next trio.

Barker's Bargain Bar, Barker's Markers, Trader Bob

(Joseph buzzes in)

Doug: Joseph.

Joseph: "Price Is Right" pricing games with mention of Bob Barker's name.

Doug: Right for the lead.

JAY
JOSEPH

(audience applause)

Doug: I should note later this season we'll have a special tribute episode to Bob and TPiR. Joseph, which card.

Joseph: I'll take the king of hearts.

JAY

JOSEPH

Doug: Denying Jay of a pair of cowboys. And we have two more cards.

D.J.: The King of Spades and the 9 of Spades.

Doug: Well, Jay's going to build on one pair going into the blind card question. Joseph could have two pair. Next trio...

Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes

(Jay buzzes in)

Doug: Jay.

Jay: Triple Crown horse races.

Doug: Yeah, we'll take that. (audience applause) I had on my card "the horse races that make up the Triple Crown". Tie score, Jay. Which card?

Jay: I really need that King!

Doug: The King you need, the King you get.

JAY

JOSEPH

Doug: All right, Jay has two Kings, Joseph has two Jacks and we have the final two cards of the round.

Doug: Chime in with the right answer here and you collect 15 points plus either the left or the right card. High hand wins 25 points and the round. Good luck and here we go with the blind card trio.

New York Avenue, Tennessee Avenue, St. James Place

(Jay buzzes in)

Doug: Jay.

Jay: Monopoly properties

Judge Von Erik: (over loud speaker) Doug, we need a more specific answer.

Doug: I had a feeling he'd do that. Need more information please.

Jay: Orange properties in Monopoly?

Doug: That's what we needed.

JAY
JOSEPH

(audience applause)

Doug: OK, Jay, now that you lead, the trick is hanging on to it. Which card?

Jay: I'll take the left card.

Doug: Left it is.

JAY

JOSEPH

Doug: Joseph, therefore, is hoping a Jack, King or 9 was on the right and is now in his hand. Those are the only cards that will keep him in business. Let's see it.

JAY

JOSEPH

Doug: Nope; 10 of Diamonds won't help. Jay wins the round.

JAY
JOSEPH

(winning bells; audience applause)

Doug: Let's see the last card for Jay.

JAY

JOSEPH

Doug: Oh it was a Jack. Well, Joseph, sorry to see you go -- but we do have CY$10 a point for a CY$200 consolation prize. Joseph Bohan, everyone.

(audience applause)

Doug: Jay, I promise you'll win more than the 250 you collected in your earlier appearance. The amounts behind the letters in "POKER" range from 500 to 5000. Which letter hides the CY$5000?

Jay: I'd like the E please!

Doug: The E -- gives you...

Doug: ...just CY$500.

JAY
JOSEPH

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Doug: Brings your total winnings to CY$750. Marc comes back for the Joker Poker. Either Marc or Jay play for CY$57,500. Find out who -- after this.

(audience applause)
