Joker Poker
======================================================================

[Pardon a semi-unrelated net game note for a moment. If you've watched
or played my games, dating back to Net Bumper Stumpers in '98, you know
about the character, D.J. Hamilton.

Much like "Seinfeld"'s Kramer was based on a real Kramer, D.J.'s based
on a real person...

...reunited friend Teresa, pictured with your humble host, is the
basis for D.J.

If you want to read the rest of the story, go to

======================================================================

("Dark Shadows" theme plays) (masked man, located backstage, holding up consolation prize)

Rich: (sounding eerie) Runners-up tonight receive this chainsaw -- endorsed by Leatherface. Great for your next Halloween party. (audience laughs) And now, Robert and Rob try to stay alive in Joker Poker. Back to Count Dougula and Net Poker's Halloween special.

(audience applause)

Doug: Thanks, Rich -- but you're no Vincent Price. (audience laughs) We're back for the final round of Net Poker in our Halloween special.

ROBERT
ROB

Doug: As we noted earlier, Robert McBride has more than enough cyber-money to get into the Quarter Million Playoff. It's been all gravy since this Halloween show started. Should Robert win this round, that's his third straight game win -- entitling him to at least CY$100,000 more plus that brand new Land Rover LR3 we saw earlier.

Robert, by virtue of winning the first round, cut the cards for this round of Joker Poker. As always, the theme...

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
MULTIPLE CHOICE

Doug: ...is General Knowledge Multiple Choice. That means the chances of another Halloween question popping up in this game are about as good as checking out of the Bates Motel. (audience laughs)

I'll give you a toss-up question and four possible answers. Chime in with the right answer and you earn points and the right to pick one of two cards for your hand. As before, the card you pass up goes to the opposition.

I should note that there are two Jokers in the deck -- hence the name Joker Poker. If you collect a Joker, you may use it for anything when your hand's complete. The Jokers mean someone could make five of a kind. A five of a kind or a natural royal flush is worth the SUV and 100-grand.

High scorer in this round wins the game, a possible CY$10,000 off the video screen and a chance at CY$50,000. So there's a lot at stake in this game.

(offstage masked man cranks up the chainsaw) (audience laughs)

Doug: (shakes head, rolls eyes and sighs) Thank goodness we're in the homestretch. Seriously, Robert and Rob, the best of luck to you and here are the first two cards of the championship round.

D.J.: We start with the Joker and the 9 of Spades.

Doug: And here's the first question of the round -- for 10 points.

"TV's big dealer" Monty Hall hosted at least one deal in a revival of "Let's Make A Deal" on NBC in...
\ the decade of the 1990s
\ the decade of the 2000s
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Rob buzzes in)

Doug: Rob.

Rob: All of theabove

Doug: That's right.

ROBERT
ROB

(audience applause)

Doug: Monty was brought in as a "special guest host" in the '90s and hosted a deal with a contestant from the original series on the Billy Bush-hosted remake from a few years ago. Rob, as if I have to ask -- do you want the Joker or the 9?

Rob: Joker please!

Doug: Thought ya might.

ROBERT

ROB

Doug: Robert collects the 9 and we have two more cards.

(woos from the crowd)

D.J.: Woo is right. The Jack of Spades and the other Joker.

Doug: All right. Another 10 points question coming.

Gray and pilot are types of...
\ whales
\ gas flames
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: Whales?

Doug: Good guess, you're right. (audience applause) Tie score at 10. Which card, champ?

Robert: JOKER!!!!

Doug: Seizing the moment.

ROBERT

ROB

Doug: OK, no more wild cards. It's all natural cards the rest of the way. Let's see two of them now.

D.J.: The 10 of Hearts and the King of Clubs.

Doug: Let's go back to the '80s for the next query...

In the year 1989,...
\ Tom Cruise starred in "Born on the Fourth of July"
\ Dan Quayle was sworn in as Vice President of the United States
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: All of the above?

Doug: That right.

ROBERT
ROB

(audience applause)

Doug: Robert, you've got the lead and the pick.

Robert: King.

Doug: Cowboy for you.

ROBERT

ROB

Doug: Rob gets the 10 out of that exchange. Both players are 3/5 of the way toward a straight. Next two cards.

D.J.: The Queen of Spades and the King of Spades.

Doug: Rob for sure will be 4/5 of the way toward a straight. Robert will either have 4/5 of a straight or trip Kings. Next question becomes important.

The Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger was...
\ once a member of the Traveling Wilburys
\ a high school basketball player
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: None of the above

Doug: Not right, sorry. Rob, chance to steal.

Rob: Traveling Wilburies

Doug: Also not right. He was a high school basketball player. Same face cards up for grabs. Next question.

River Phoenix was in the movie...
\ "Explorers"
\ "Stand By Me"
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Rob buzzes in)

Doug: Rob.

Rob: stand by me

Doug: Nope, sorry. Robert, chance to steal.

(time passes) (buzz)

Doug: He was in "Explorers" and "Stand By Me". "All of the above" the right answer that time. New 10-pointer...

24 is the number...
\ in the title of a Fox television series
\ of Tony Stewart's car in NASCAR's Nextel Cup Series
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: That's for a FOX TV Series.

Doug: That's correct.

ROBERT
ROB

(audience applause)

Doug: Tony Stewart's number is 20. You've got the lead going into the blind card question. Which card?

Robert: Another King, please.

ROBERT

ROB

Doug: And with that, let's take a moment to assess the situation. Robert has at worst three Kings. Rob, assuming he does not draw a 10, Jack or Queen on this next question, will complete a straight.

Doug: Of course, the point of building hands becomes all moot if Robert buzzes in and answers correctly. This next question is worth 15 points and if the champ scores on this query, it will be mathematically impossible for Rob to catch up. A lot riding on this question. Good luck, gentlemen, play carefully and here we go...

In the 1984 U.S. Presidential Election, Walter Mondale won...
\ his home state of Minnesota
\ the District of Columbia
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert, for all the marbles.

Robert: Minnesota?

Doug: No, sorry. Rob, chance to steal and stay in the game.

Rob: all of the above

Doug: Right.

ROBERT
ROB

(audience applause)

Doug: That's all he won. Ronald Reagan easily won four more years by collecting all the electoral votes from the remaining 49 United States. Rob, the control of the cards is yours. Do we add the left or right to your hand?

Rob: Left.

ROBERT

ROB

Doug: OK, we have our cards in place. Rob, you'd like to see an Ace, King or 9 to complete the straight. Anything else, and you'd have trips but Robert would win since he's building on three Kings. Deej, let's see Rob's last card.
