Joker Poker

(smooth jazz theme plays)

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
MULTIPLE CHOICE

(audience applause)

Rich: The championship's on the line. Robert and Eddie play Joker Poker where one of them could instantly win CY$10,000 and a trip to San Francisco. Back to Doug Morris and Net Poker.

Doug: I thank you, Rich. This is Joker Poker -- where the theme will always be "General Knowledge Multiple Choice" this season. This is the line of questioning we dealt with in Video Poker -- only the questions can be about anything.

Robert and Eddie, the rules for this round are essentially the same as the last. Each question is worth 10 points and the right to pick a card for your hand. As before, the card you bypass goes to the opposition. Fifth pair of cards for the round come face down and then we play for 15 points. High hand is worth 25 points.

High scorer at the end of this round wins the game, becomes or continues as champion and moves on to Deuces Wild Poker for a possible CY$90,000.

(audience cheers)

Doug: Robert, because you won Video Poker, you cut the cards for this round. Remember, in addition to every Ace through 9, there are two Jokers in the deck for this round. If you collect a Joker, you may use it for anything when your hand is complete.

First two cards for this decisive round are -- what, Deej?

D.J.: The 9 of Spades and the 9 of Diamonds.

Doug: Well, we can't lower than nines on this show, as you know. Good luck, gentlemen, and here we go with the first 10-point question.

When making a list of all the characters of Beverly Hills, 90210, you must include...
\ Brenda Walsh
\ Brandon Walsh
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: I have a strange feeling I'm walking into a trap question, but I'll say all of the above.

Doug: Eddie, no trap here. You're right for 10 points.

ROBERT
EDDIE

(audience applause)

Doug: Shannen Doherty played the part of Brenda. Jason Priestley was Brandon. Eddie, which of these lousy nines would you like?

(light laughter from the crowd)

Eddie: Heh, pick a 9 -- any 9. I'll take the spade.

Doug: The 9 of Spades goes to you; Diamonds for Robert.

ROBERT

EDDIE

Doug: And as I noted earlier with the cards, there's nowhere to go but up. Two more cards, please.

D.J.: We went up a few notches. The 10 of Spades and the Jack of Diamonds.

Doug: And here's the next question -- all about movies.

Salma Hayek was a cast member of the movie...
\ "Traffic"
\ "The Faculty"
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: All of the above.

Doug: And we have a tie game. (audience applause) Which card, champ?

Robert: The Jack.

Doug: And with that...

ROBERT

EDDIE

Doug: ..both players are building on a flush. Maybe a straight flush. Could happen with two Jokers in the deck. Next two cards, please.

D.J.: And we have ladies in black -- the Queen of Spades and the Queen of Clubs.

Doug: OK, this could get interesting, folks. Next 10-pointer...

"Jim Davis" is the actual first and last name of...
\ the cartoonist who created "Cathy"
\ a cast member of "Dynasty"
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Robert buzzes in)

Doug: Robert.

Robert: None of the above?

Doug: Again, just because Eddie's here, we don't have to respond in question form. :) (audience laughs) And none of the above's right.

ROBERT
EDDIE

(audience applause)

Doug: If this keeps up, I may have to have my wardrobe provided by Mr. Guy. (more laughs) Seriously, the cartoonist Jim Davis created Garfield and the late actor Jim Davis was on "Dallas". Robert, you take the lead and a Queen. Which one?

Robert: The one in spades.

Doug: Somehow I'm not surprised.

ROBERT

EDDIE

Doug: OK, flushes are out of the question. But both players are working on a straight. Robert with Queen-Jack-9. Eddie with Queen-10-9. Robert leads with 20 points to Eddie's 10. Two more cards are on the way.

D.J.: The Jack of Clubs and the 10 of Hearts.

Doug: Well, Eddie, no Spades up for grabs this time. Don't know if that makes you feel better.

Eddie: Actually, it does a little.

Doug: Fair enough. Here's the next question...

In the year 1968,...
\ McDonald's introduced the Big Mac
\ the 007 movie "Moonraker" was playing at a theater near you
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: McDonald's introduced the Big Mac.

Doug: Right and we're tied at 20. (audience applause) "Moonraker" was in '79.

Rich: Hey, Doug.

Doug: Yes, Rich?

Rich: You know Chuck Norris ordered a Big Mac at Wendy's -- and got one.

(audience laughs)

Doug: No kiddin'? In any event, Eddie, you've got an interesting decision to make. Will you and Robert each build on a pair -- or will you both be 4/5 of the way toward a King high straight? The choice is yours.

Eddie: Interesting situation, eh? Let's make it even -- I'll take the jack.

Doug: The Jack is yours.

ROBERT

EDDIE

Doug: Boy, talk about an even game. Tie score at 20. Tie hands -- Queen through 9. I should note if the final two cards are of equal rank -- or if one is a Joker and the other a King -- then we'll have a tie for high hand and no one collects an extra 25 points. So this next question alone could determine the champion.

Final two cards of the round, as always, are up for grabs face down.

Doug: Question's now worth 15 points. Good luck, play carefully, here we go...

Chad is the name of...
\ a country in Africa
\ the first contestant eliminated from "Survivor: Africa"
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: Uhbooy -- wishing I watched "Survivor" now...I'll say just a country in Africa.

Doug: Regardless of how little "Survivor" you've watched, you're right.

ROBERT
EDDIE

(audience applause)

Doug: There was no participant named Chad in "Survivor: Africa". Diane was voted out of the competition first. OK, Eddie, you have the important control of the cards. Which one completes your hand?

Eddie: Crossing my fingers and hoping -- the right card is higher.

Doug: Very well.

ROBERT

EDDIE

Doug: The cards are in place. Let's go ahead and reveal Robert's last card first, please.

ROBERT

EDDIE

Doug: And that's the Jack of Hearts for one pair of Jacks. Eddie, to win the game, your last card must be a Jack to ensure no one gets extra points, a Queen for a better pair or a King or Joker for a straight. Anything else -- and Robert retains the championship. D.J., show us Eddie's last card, please.
