5-Card Poker

Doug: And welcome back to Net Poker. In our haste to get the show back on track, I neglected to mention the winner of this game could collect up to a total of CY$15,000 off the video screen -- as well as a trip to Washington, D.C. Brian is well on his way with that CY$5000 win earlier in the last round.

Also at the end of the day, Rick, Michael or Brian will have a chance to take home the outlaw's jackpot worth CY$70,000.

(audience cheers)

Doug: OK, time for 5-Card Poker. Rick and Michael, you've both played this round before. Score more than 40 points in this round and you're off to Joker Poker to play against Brian.

Michael cut the cards during the break. Let's see the first two cards from D.J.

D.J.: And we're starting with the Queen of Spades and the 9 of Diamonds.

Doug: And here comes the first question in this elimination round. Good luck and away we go...

Never fully seen on Home Improvement, Tim Taylor's neighbor's...
\ first name was Wilson
\ last name was Wilson
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Rick buzzes in)

Doug: Rick.

Rick: All of the above

Doug: The neighbor was so nice, they named him twice. That's right.

RICK
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: OK, Rick, you're on the board first for this round. Which card?

Rick: I'll take the Queen

Doug: Champ takes the lady.

RICK

MICHAEL

Doug: Michael gets the 9. Two more cards, please.

D.J.: The 10 of Spades and the Jack of Diamonds.

Doug: And let's test your movie knowledge now...

Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler were...
\ in the cast of the movie The First Wives Club
\ born within four days of each other
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Rick buzzes in)

Doug: Rick again.

Rick: In the cast of "The First Wives Club"

Doug: Right again.

RICK
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: The stars were born within three weeks of each other -- and they celebrated their 50th birthdays when filming the movie. OK, Rick, which card?

Rick: I want that 10

(a few cheers from the crowd)

Doug: Going for the flush royale, I presume.

RICK

MICHAEL

Doug: Well, Michael gets a face card out of that deal. Next two cards from Deej.

(those who just cheered now groan)

D.J.: Well, no chance at a car this time. Ace of Hearts and the King of Diamonds.

Doug: Well, Michael could be 3/5 of the way toward a straight flush. But, he could sure use some points. Next question for 10 of said points...

In the year 1982,...
\ the Royals won the World Series
\ Diet Coke was introduced
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Michael buzzes in)

Doug: Michael.

Michael: Not only was that the same year I born in, but Diet Coke was introduced.

Doug: Have a Diet Coke and a smile with 10 points.

RICK
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: BTW, that other Missouri baseball team, the Cardinals, won the whole can of Cheez-Wiz that year. OK, Michael, which card?

Michael: As tempting as the straight flush may be, I doubt that another diamond will come up after seeing Rick's chance at a flush go bye bye. So, I want to have the high card & I will take the Ace.

Doug: Very well...

RICK

MICHAEL

Doug: ...we'll see if that decision pays off in the long run. Two more cards, Deej, if you please.

D.J.: The Queen of Clubs and the Jack of Hearts.

Doug: And let's test your musical knowledge, this time...

When making a list of 1990's #1 hit singles, you must include...
\ "Pray" by M.C. Hammer
\ "Love Takes Time" by Mariah Carey
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Rick buzzes in)

Doug: Rick.

Rick: None of the above.

Doug: Not the right answer. Michael, chance to steal.

Michael: "Love Takes Time" by Mariah Carey

Doug: That's the one.

RICK
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: "Pray" got close -- #2. OK, Michael, tie ballgame. Which card?

Michael: Even though I am putting him on a straight draw, I don't want Rick to have a higher pair than me. So, I will take the Queen

Doug: Totally understood...

RICK

MICHAEL

Doug: ...and as we go into the blind card question, as Michael alluded to, Rick either needs an Ace or 9 for a straight; anything else for a pair. Michael, you could use an Ace right about now.

Doug: And there we have the last two cards for this round. Fifteen points at stake. Then the player with the better hand receives 25 points. Good luck...

In the first Army-Navy football game in the year 1890,...
\ Army won
\ the losing team scored just one field goal
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Rick buzzes in)

Doug: Rick.

Rick: Army won

Doug: Not the right answer. Michael, chance to steal.

Michael: none of the above.

Doug: The final score of that game -- Navy 24, Army 0. Michael's right.

RICK
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: Michael, you control the cards. Which one would you like for yourself -- and what are you leaving for Rick?

Michael: I'm going to take the right card.

Doug: The right card it is...

RICK

MICHAEL

Doug: ...Michael, since the best you can do is one pair, let's see if that last card will give you a pair. If you fail to make a pair, Rick will win anyway since, as you know, there's nothing lower than a 9 in this game -- and he would either make a pair or straight.

So, Deej, let's see Michael's last card first.

RICK

MICHAEL

Doug: Queen of Hearts. So you have a pair of Queens. Rick, to stay alive, you need an Ace or 9 for a straight or King for a higher pair. Queen does you no good since Michael would have a better kicker.

Deej, please turn that last card over and show us who wins the round.

RICK

MICHAEL

Doug: Ten -- gives you a lower pair. Michael wins.

RICK
MICHAEL

(winning bells; audience applause)

Doug: Michael, I'll be back with you in just a moment. Rick, we thank you for playing our game. We'll give you an additional CY$10 for every point you scored in this round. Added to your prior winnings, you leave us with our great thanks and CY$8700.

(audience applause)

Doug: Well, Michael, you're about to play against a CY$5000 winner. Right now is your chance to be a CY$5000 winner. Just pick a letter in "POKER".

Michael: I'll take a P please. :)

(audience laughs)

Doug: It's amazing how much mileage we get out of that Scrabble moment. Behind the letter P we find...

(bing)

Doug: ...CY$1000.

RICK
MICHAEL

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Doug: When we come back, it's Brian vs. Michael for all the marbles. We'll crown a new champ -- after this break.

(audience applause)
