5-Card Poker Doug: Welcome back to Net Poker, everyone. In addition to all the prizes we've been talking about, a player could win CY$62,500 in our bonus game. More on that when we cross that bridge. But, if Joe or Chris wants to get there, he must win this elimination round of...

Doug: ...5-Card Poker. Now, normally the player who finished in second place from Video Poker cuts the cards for this round. But, Joe and Chris finished in a tie for second. Since the tie involved the champion, Joe cut the cards during the break.
Gentlemen, in a moment, you'll see the first two cards from the top of the deck -- and then I'll give you a toss-up question. Chime in with the right answer and you win 10 points and the right to select one of the two up cards. As always, the card you decline in the process goes to your opponent.
We keep this up until you each have four cards. The fifth pair of cards come face down and then we play a 15-point blind card question -- which is also worth control of the cards.
When the hands are complete, we'll turn over all of the cards face up and award 25 points to the player with the better hand.
The player with the better score wins the round and moves on to Joker Poker. The runner-up in this round boards a little tugboat bound for the island of consolation prizes.
Doug: So good luck, Joe and Chris. Let's see the first twocards for the round.
D.J.: First cards up for grabs are...
D.J.: ...the King of Hearts and the Ace of Diamonds.
Doug: OK, two high cards and this question for 10 points...
On November 2, 1889,...
\ South Dakota became the 39th state
\ North Dakota became the 40th state
\ all of the above
\ none of the aboveDoug: Chris.
Chris: all of the above
Doug: Sorry, not right. Joe, chance to steal.
Joe: I'll say none of the above.
Doug: And you say the right answer.
JOE CHRIS ![]()

Doug: In that second November day of 1889, North Dakota became the 39th state and South Dakota the 40th. Now, the thing of it is, according to our crack staff -- who I think *is* on crack sometimes -- (audience laughs) a bill for the Dakotas' statehood was passed on February 22, 1889 during the Cleveland Administration.
During the administration of Grover Cleveland's successor, Benjamin Harrison, the prez directed Secretary of State James Blaine to shuffle papers and obscure from him which he was signing first. So, basically by pure luck, North Dakota was admitted to the union sooner than South Dakota.
In any event, Joe, you take the first points of the round and the first card. The Ace or King?
Joe: Let's have the .45 Automatic. Ace of Diamonds, please.
Doug: Ace is yours.
JOE
CHRIS
Doug: ...and the King goes to Chris. We get two more cards now.
D.J.: I have a feeling I know who's supplying that crack. But, anyway... (light laughter from the crowd)
D.J.: ...the King of Clubs and the 10 of Clubs.
Doug: Two Clubs up for grabs this time. Next query for 10 points...
Animal Farm was written by...
\ Eric Arthur Blair
\ James Alfred Wight
\ all of the above
\ none of the aboveDoug: Joe.
Joe: None of the above. It was George Orwell.
Doug: No, not the right choice. Chris, chance to steal.
Chris: Eric Arthur Blair
Doug: The real name of George Orwell. That's why we have a tie game.

Doug: OK, Chris, you have the choice. Which card?
Chris: I'll take the king, for a pair.
Doug: Thought you would.
JOE
CHRIS
Doug: Joe working on Ace-10 right now. Two more cards on the way.
D.J.: The 9 of Spades and the Ace of Clubs.
Doug: Well, I think we know which card will be selected. But who gets control? We'll find out after this question...
In Texas Hold 'Em Poker, if you're dealt a 9 and a 5, you have...
\ the worst starting hand
\ a hand nicknamed "Dolly Parton"
\ all of the above
\ none of the aboveDoug: Joe.
Joe: a hand nicknamed "Dolly Parton"
Doug: Correctamundo. (audience applause) Twenty points for you, Joe, and a choice of card -- tough choice that it is.
Joe: Gee, I wonder. Ace, please.
Doug: Thought so.
JOE
CHRIS
Doug: And our fourth pair of cards are on the way.
D.J.: Queen of Hearts and the 10 of Diamonds.
Doug: And it's time for an '80s flashback... maybe...
In the year 1981,...
\ Dallas debuted on CBS
\ Chariots of Fire won the Oscar for best picture
\ all of the above
\ none of the aboveDoug: Joe.
Joe: "Chariots of Fire" won the Oscar for best picture
Doug: And about three others at the Academy Awards ceremony that year. You're right.
JOE CHRIS ![]()

Doug: I think Dallas came along in the late '70s. OK, Joe, you control the choice again.
Joe: Let's get the two pair. The 10 please.
Doug: And with that...
JOE
CHRIS
Doug: ...Chris, you need to draw another King in order to knock the champ out...
Doug: ...and you also need to score 15 points on the upcoming blind card question. Joe, if you score on this question, you'll win the round automatically since there would not be enough points available in this round for Chris to catch up.
Here we go with the blind card question...
The Slinky has been used as...
\ a therapy tool
\ an antenna by soldiers in Vietnam
\ all of the above
\ none of the aboveDoug: Chris.
Chris: all of the above
Doug: You're right. (audience applause) Now, Chris, you're down 5 points. To win this round, you have to draw a King and hope Joe doesn't get a 10 or Ace in the process. Left or right card?
Chris: The left one, if you please.
Doug: Well, since you said "please", we'll give it to you.
JOE
CHRIS
Doug: Now, it's moment of truth time. D.J., please reveal Chris' last card first.
JOE
CHRIS
Doug: A Jack of Diamonds. You end this round with a pair of Kings. Joe, already with two pair, you're going to Joker Poker.

(winning bells; audience applause)
Doug: Just for the heck of it, what was Joe's last card?
JOE
CHRIS
Doug: Woah. Another 10 for a full boat. Well, Joe, you're one round away from collecting CY$100,000 and a new car. Before that, you'll play for CY$5000 and the Jamaican holiday. Chris, as for you, that tugboat's leaving for the island of consolation prizes in five minutes. Before you depart, please take CY$10 a point or CY$250 -- and all this applause.
