Video Poker

JOE
JOHN
CHRIS

(ding) (audience cheers)

Doug: Thanks, Deej. We'll see you later in the show. Players, welcome aboard. Again, we should note in the interest of full disclosure Joe and D.J. are host and hostess, respectively, of Net ShowDown and before the show we had Joe swear on a pair of Mickey Mouse ears... (light laughter from the crowd) ...that he has no advanced knowledge of any of the questions to be asked.

With that said, we already gave you nice folks 10 points to start this round of...

Doug: ...Video Poker. Now, here's how you win more points. I'll ask a series of toss-up questions worth 10 points each. After the fifth question, we'll take you to the video screen where much more can be won. Now for the queries. Good luck and here we go...

In the year 1985, ...
\ Walt Disney World welcomed its 200,000,000th visitor
\ the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 2000 for the first time
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

JOE
JOHN
CHRIS

(Chris buzzes in)

Doug: Chris.

Chris: the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 2000 for the first time

Doug: Not right. Anyone else? (Joe buzzes in) Joe.

Joe: all of the above

Doug: Also not right. John, you could be credited with the first right answer on this new set if you can pick the right answer.

John: None of the Above

Doug: Oh no, our first stumper on the new set. In '85, Walt Disney World welcomed its 200,000,000th visitor. The Dow wouldn't close higher than 2000 until 1987.

D.J.: Gee, wonder why we had a Disney question the first show back?

(light laughter from the crowd)

Doug: For those who don't get the joke, Cindy and I honeymooned at Disney. In any event, we move on to the next question.

Glory Days / "Glory Days" is the title of a...
\ Fox TV series that starred Brad Pitt
\ #1 hit song by Boston
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Joe buzzes in)

Doug: Joe.

Joe: none of the above

Doug: Not right. John or Chris? (John buzzes in) John.

John: #1 hit song by Boston

Doug: Also not right. Chris, chance to score 10 for yourself.

Chris: all of the above

Doug: Nope. Brad Pitt was part of the cast of the 1990 Fox TV series Glory Days. We're still tied at 10. Next question...

When making a list of actresses who've played Bond girls, you must include...
\ Raquel Welch
\ Ursula Andress
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John.

John: Ursula Andress

Doug: There we go. Third question's the charm.

JOE
JOHN
CHRIS

(audience applause)

Doug: John breaks the ice and we move on to the next question...

In 1925, Henry Ford introduced as a new color for cars...
\ green
\ maroon
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John again.

John: Maroon

Doug: Not right. Joe or Chris? (Chris buzzes in) Chris.

Chris: none of the above

Doug: Also not the right choice. Champ, it's 50/50 time.

Joe: I'll say maroon.

Doug: Uh... that's... what... John said. (light laughter from the crowd) I'm gonna have to turn to the honorable Judge Von Erik for a ruling.

Judge Von Erik: (over loud speaker) Yes, Doug, I will allow him to choose between "green" and "all of the above".

Joe: Ack. Don't I feel stupid. (audience laughs) All of the above.

Doug: Just be glad we don't have Judge *Judy* ruling on answers. (more laughs) All of the above's right.

JOE
JOHN
CHRIS

(audience applause)

Doug: Last question in the round coming. Chris, chance to make this a three-way tie...

The inspection of frozen pizzas falls under the jurisdiction of...
\ the Food and Drug Administration
\ the United States Department of Agriculture
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Chris buzzes in)

Doug: Chris.

Chris: the United States Department of Agriculture

Doug: Not the USDA. Joe or John? (John buzzes in) John.

John: all of the above

Doug: That's it.

JOE
JOHN
CHRIS

(audience applause)

Doug: The FDA is responsible for inspecting frozen cheese pizzas, and the USDA inspects frozen meat pizzas. At the end of the first half of play this round, Chris still has 10, Joe has 20 and John leads with 30. Let's visit Deej -- as she tells you how you can add to those totals.

(FF reveal sfx)

D.J.: OK, Doug. Behind these 24 numbers are the cards Ace through 9 from each of the four suits. Gentlemen, in this half of the round, you'll each take up to two consecutive turns at the video screen.

On your first turn, you'll pick five numbers and formulate a poker hand from the cards you drew. If you're happy with that hand, take the points associated with the combination and pass control to the next player.

If you want to take the second turn, you may exchange any or all cards for new one. After that second turn, you're stuck with the points associated with the combination.

D.J.: Remember, you need at least a pair of Queens to win any points at all. Anything less and we take five points away.

Doug: And don't forget, if a player in this or any other round makes a natural royal flush wins this mighty spiffy prize. Ghost of Jay Stewart, do tell.

(new car music plays)

TGoJS: For your driving enjoyment, IT'S A BRAND NEW CAR! (audience cheers) The Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Go off-road in style in this fantastic car. It comes complete with six-speed manual transmission, a 500 horsepower engine, a huge 15 square-foot sectioned glass sunroof, a rearview camera and much more.

(music fades)

Doug: Joe, that car will be yours for sure if you win Joker Poker outright. The winner of the car also receives CY$100,000. Chris, last place goes first in this half of the round. Before you start picking, tell Mr. and Mrs. Internet about yourself.

Chris: I work at a fast-food restaurant, and my interests are games and computers.

Doug: Game and computers -- you've certainly come to the right place. Now's the time to pick five numbers off our computerized game board.

Chris: I pick 7, 9, 14, 21, and 23.

Doug: OK, let's take a look at what lurks behind those numbers.

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Three 10s. (audience applause) Nice beginning. Chris, if you stopped here, we would add 15 points to your score. However, if you feel you can do better, make exchanges. Either way, control would pass to Joe when your possession of the screen is finished.

Chris: Throw away that queen and jack, and give me 1 and 24.

Doug: Thought you'd play it that way. He's hanging on to the 10s and we now add what?
