Honeymoon's over and Net Poker's back for Game 20. Remember, Joe Van Ginkel's going for an undefeated championship and the last available spot in the tournament of champions. Remember, if you played in Game 17, 18 or 19's main portion, please let someone else participate in the following...
While at Disney/MGM Studios, Cindy and I played along with three contestants who made it to the hot seat of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Play It!" In points, what was the combined score of the three "hot seat players"?
..and wouldn't you know, more notes regarding this qualifying question. I disclosed some of these nuggets to a fellow net game player/host -- so, I figured I better disclose the following notes...
\ First, you read that correctly, you don't play for real money in the WWTBAM attraction -- but you do receive a Disney Cruise for a top hot seat score of 1,000,000 points. Along the way, the hot seat player can win WWTBAM hats and shirts plus Disney pins.
\ The game starts with a fastest finger question to determine who plays first. As the hot seat player climbs toward 1,000,000 points, everyone else in the studio plays along -- in an attempt to be the next player in the hot seat. Points from the "play along" part do not count in the response to this question.
\ Everyone, including the hot seat player, is under a time limit. Fifteen seconds of think time for the first five questions, 30 seconds for the next five and 45 for the remaining five questions. Such time does not factor in use of lifelines (50:50, ask the audience and Play It!'s exclusive "phone a stranger" where a call is made to a WDW visitor). The hot seat player must declare A, B, C or D is his/her "final answer" before the time expires.
\ We were at the 12:55pm show on June 2, 2005.
\ At least one player failed to reach the first milestone of 1000 points -- and ended up with a goose egg. All I remember was the 200 point question asked the player to identify which of the four choices listed was a domesticated animal. Among the choices were donkey (the right answer) and Dame Edna (the customary joke D answer). The poor guy fell for the joke answer hook line and sinker. We can only assume he got, as a consolation prize, an Eeyore doll.
With all that disclosed, if you want to challenge Joe, e-mail me with your answer to the qualifying question as well as your name and e-mail address.
(times passes)
Huh, we have to end this early? Two people already hit this on the nose? Wow. Maybe I gave away too many hints.
Well, you know one zonked out. How'd the others do combined?
QUALIFYING ANSWER
33,000 POINTS
Thirty-three grand. The first failed on the 32,000 point question and went back to 1000. The next "llamaed out". The last cleared the 32,000 hurdle but missed the 250,000 question. And who are our perfect guessers?
John Montagnino 33,000 Chris Schumacher 33,000John and Chris. You're going to try and stop Joe Van Ginkel's attempt at winning 100-grand, a car and a berth in the tournament. Stay tuned.
====================================================================== (nine pictures of Annie Wood in a 3x3 grid of boxes) Rich Jeffries: "Annie Wood Squares" (audience laughs) will not be seen at this time. In its place, we bring you a game that's generated quite a buzz. ======================================================================(drum roll) (camera gradually zooms in on Joe Van Ginkel)
The Ghost of Jay Stewart: This is our returning champion -- Joe Van Ginkel from Anaheim, California. Stand by to see if Joe can clinch the fourth and final berth in our Quarter Million Playoff. If he succeeds, he'll be rewarded with A BRAND NEW CAR -- plus at least CY$100,000 on Net Poker.
TGoJS: From Studio 63, welcome to the card game where high hands can bring high rewards. This is Net Poker. (audience cheers) And now here's the star of our show, Doug Morris!

Doug: Wow! I like how this place has changed. We've got card pips in the background. The cards board's new. I'm really impressed how they finished it all in an hour and a half. (audience laughs) Anyway, a new episode of Net Poker's about to start on this new set. But it's the same great game you've been watching right here on VBS.
It's great to be back and it's great to be married -- hi, honey! ("ahhhs" from the audience) And it's also great to welcome back our dealer. Here's D.J. Hamilton.
(D.J. walks out wearing a pair of dark slacks and a Net Poker t-shirt)
D.J.: Hi everyone. Doug, great to see you. Oh... and better late than never... (throws rice at Doug)
Doug: Hey! Watch it!
D.J.: None of our contestants will receive any Minute Rice today. (more laughs) But, they could receive a bunch of cyber-money. They are Chris Schumacher, John Montagnino and our two-time champ with CY$16,500, Joe Van Ginkel.
