5-Card Poker

(fade in to D.J. on her cell phone)

D.J.: Oh, you've got a boyfriend? Yay, Kimmy. Hope he's a keeper.

(looks into camera realizing were back from break; crowd laughs)

D.J.: Uh, listen, gotta get back to work. I'll buy you, him and me din-din and drinks, OK? Great. Bye. (flips phone closed) We're back on Net Poker. Here's Doug.

Doug: Thanks, Deej. Now that she's made amends, we can play...

Doug: ...5-Card Poker. During the break, Brian cut the cards since he finished in second place in the previous round.

John and Brian, in a moment, the first two cards of the deck will come down the chute and I'll ask a 10-point toss-up question. Chime in with the right answer and you win the points plus the right to select one of those cards. Remember, the card you decline goes to your opponent.

After you each collect four cards, the fifth pair of cards will come down the chute face down and we'll play a 15-point blind card question. As before, if you get the points, you get to pick the card.

We'll then turn the blind cards face up and give the player who made the better hand 25 points. High scorer wins the round and plays against Dean for the championship.

Right now, Deej, what are we starting with terms of cards?

D.J.: We begin with the 10 of Spades and the King of Hearts.

Doug: And we also start with this 10-point question...

In 1896, Henry Ford successfully tested a horseless carriage...
\ known as a "quadricycle"
\ through the streets of Detroit
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John.

John: I'll say all of the above.

Doug: And I'll say, "Give the man 10 points."

JOHN
BRIAN

(audience applause)

Doug: John draws first blood in the round. Pick a card, please.

John: I'd like the King, please.

Doug: The King for John...

JOHN

BRIAN

Doug: ...and that means Brian gets the 10. Next pair of cards are on the way.

D.J.: And we have...

D.J.: ...the Ace of Spades and the King of Clubs.

Doug: OK, couple of high cards. Should make for an interesting decision. Time for the next 10-pointer. The question's a little long -- so play carefully...

According to the magazine Blender, their list of the 10 worst songs of all time includes...
\ "From A Distance" by Bette Midler
\ "I'll Be There For You" by the Rembrandts
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John.

John: All of the above.

Doug: Not the right choice. Brian, you get a chance to steal the points and control of the cards if you can pick the right answer.

Brian: I'll say none of the above

Doug: Correct.

JOHN
BRIAN

(audience applause)

Doug: "From a Distance" ranked #14 on the list and "I'll Be There For You" charted at #15. Brian, good steal. Which card?

Brian: To bust up the pair, I'll take the King.

(a few groans from the crowd)

Doug: Heheh, they wanted you to go for the royal flush, Brian...

JOHN

BRIAN

Doug: ...but as you said, a pair of Kings is broken for now. Two more cards are on the way.

D.J.: And now we have...

D.J.: ...the Queen of Diamonds (more groans from the crowd) -- I know, I know -- and the Ace of Diamonds.

Doug: All righty. We move on to the next question...

A root beer brand, currently sold at a store near you, is named after...
\ Edward Barq
\ Frank Wright
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John again.

John: All of the above.

Doug: Yes, indeed.

JOHN
BRIAN

(audience applause)

Doug: Barq represents Barq's Root Beer; Wright is the W in A&W. Which card, John?

John: I'd like the Ace, please.

Doug: Champ gets a pair of Aces...

JOHN

BRIAN

Doug: ...Brian's 3/5 of the way toward a straight. Two more cards on the way...

D.J.: Let's see...

(more groans from the crowd)

D.J.: ...10 of Hearts and the King of... um... Spades.

Doug: Do we have the paramedics on standby in case the Jack of Spades comes in the blind card pair? In any event, let's just concentrate on this next question...

In the year 1960, you could purchase...
\ a Whopper at Burger King's
\ a Big Mac at McDonald's
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(John buzzes in)

Doug: John.

John: I'll say a Whopper ar Burger King.

Doug: Have it your way with 10 more points.

JOHN
BRIAN

(audience applause)

Doug: The Big Mac came into existance in 1965, whereas the Whopper was 1957. Which card John?

John: I'm claiming that King for myself.

Doug: And as we go to the blind card query...

JOHN

BRIAN

Doug: ...John has two big pair -- Aces and Kings. Brian, given the scores and the hands as they are, you'll need to chime in with the right answer to the blind card question -- and then draw a 10 to have any chance of winning.

Doug: And perhaps you're both hoping the Jack of Spades isn't among this final pair. Here's the question for 15 points.

Margaret Gorman was the first woman to...
\ anchor a local TV newscast in New York City
\ be crowned Miss America
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Brian buzzes in)

Doug: Brian.

Brian: Anchor a local newscast in NY

Doug: Not the right choice. John, if you can pick the right answer, you'll go straight to the Joker Poker round.

John: I'll say be crowned Miss America.

Doug: And you've won the round.

JOHN
BRIAN

(winning bells; audience applause)

Doug: John has scored a majority of the 80 points available in this round. Brian, even if you ended up with the better hand, John still would've had more points that you.

OK, I'm sure you really want to know if that royal flush is possible. In a situation like this, we normally don't reveal the blind cards. But, Deej, we may be on the verge of "abnormal" if you know what I mean.

D.J.: Oh, yeah, I'm almost scared to look. OK, I'll flip the left card first.

D.J.: Jack of *Diamonds*. OK. And on the right we had...
