5-Card Poker

Doug: We're back on Net Poker. While Chris counts up his CY$5100 in total winnings, Barry and Jay are going to play...

Doug: ...some 5-Card Poker. This time, we use a deck of 24 cards -- Ace through 9 of everything. In a moment, the top two cards of deck will come down the chute and I'll ask a 10-point toss up question. If you can chime in with the right answer, you win the 10 points and the right to select one of the two up cards for your 5-card hand. Keep in mind the card you decline goes to your opponent.

We'll keep playing like that until you each have four cards. Then, the round's fifth and final pair of cards will come down the chute face down -- and then we'll play a 15-point blind card question. Chime in with the correct answer and you'll select one of the two cards just as before.

We'll then turn over both blind cards and see who has the better hand. Player with the better hand wins 25 points. High scoring player when the round's over advances to the Joker Poker round.

D.J. Hamilton, what are the first two cards of the round...

D.J.: We're starting with...

D.J.: ...the Jack of Hearts and the Ace of Diamonds.

Doug: Now, this first question is a little long -- so play carefully...

When making a list of situation comedy characters who've served in the U.S. Marines, you must include...
\ Gomer Pyle, played by Jim Nabors
\ John "Mac" McGillis, played by Gerald McRaney
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

Jay: Gomer Pyle Played by Jim Nabors, Final Answer.

Doug: Uh, need to buzz in there, Jay. (time passes) (buzz) Time's up -- and Jay's choice was incorrect, anyway. It's all of the above. Gomer Pyle was in Gomer Pyle, USMC and John McGillis was the title character in Major Dad. The same Jack of Hearts and Ace of Diamonds will be up for grabs for this new 10-point question.

Dallas, Texas is home to...

BARRY
JAY

(audience applause)

Doug: OK, Jay, pick a card.

Jay: i'll take the ace of diamonds

Doug: OK, Ace is yours...

BARRY

JAY

Doug: ...giving Barry the Jack and we have two more cards.

D.J.: The Jack of Spades and the Ace of Hearts.

Doug: Interesting. Another Jack and Ace on this question...

Doug: Interesting strategy...

BARRY

JAY

Doug: Give you a pair of Jacks but Jay has a pair of Aces. Next pair of up cards now from Deej.

D.J.: And they are...

D.J.: ...the Ace of Spades and the 9 of Diamonds.

Doug: Hmm... could get interesting. Next question for 10...

Before anchoring The CBS Evening News, Dan Rather...
\ originally co-hosted Good Morning America
\ hosted the game show The $100,000 Big Surprise
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Barry buzzes in)

Doug: Barry again.

Barry: all of the above

Doug: Sorry, not right. Jay, any idea? (time passes) (buzz) It's none of the above. David Hartman originally hosted Good Morning America with Nancy Dussault. Mike Wallace hosted The $100,000 Big Surprise.

In addition, rumor has it Dan Rather was offered the hosting gig on the syndicated version of What's My Line?; however, he missed the *memo*. (a few boos from the crowd) I'll take that to mean I should tell Dan Rather jokes with less *frequency*. (more boos)

Anyway, same Ace and 9 up for grabs with this new 10-pointer...

The TV sitcom Seinfeld includes such characters as...

BARRY
JAY

(audience applause)

Doug: Which card, sir?

Barry: the king

Doug: Barry gets the King...

BARRY

JAY

Doug: Jay has the 10. Now, Jay's got a slightly better hand going into the blind card question. But, Barry can put the round on ice just by chiming in with the right answer.

Doug: There are the blind cards. Jay, you'll need to score the 15 points on this question

BARRY
JAY

(winning bells; audience applause)

Doug: Even if Jay would end up with the better poker hand, the high hand's worth 25 and not enough to catch Barry. Barry, congrats and we'll give you a chance at CY$5000 in a bit. Jay, 10 points times CY$10 means we give you CY$100 and our thanks for playing. Jay Jianoran, everyone.

(audience applause)

Doug: OK, Barry, chance to win CY$5000 and perhaps a big fat Greek holiday. Pick a letter in "POKER and you win the cyber-cash behind the letter. If that "trip" card is above your chosen letter, you win that trip to Greece.

Barry: P

Doug: The P. What's behind the P first?

(bing)

Doug: Next best cyber-cash prize. Two-grand. Now, is the Greece trip above the P?

(bing) (some groans from the crowd)

Doug: Close. It was above the O.

BARRY
JAY

(smooth jazz theme plays)

Doug: CY$2750 total and when we come back, Barry and Chris go for all the marbles in Joker Poker. Stay tuned.

(audience applause)
