Audience Game OK, one of our main game players in Net Poker has to be away. Sooo, let's play an audience game. And to play an audience game, we've gotta have another qualifying question.
The three players closest to the right answer, high or low, get to play The Faces of Danger. Last player standing there moves on to the Outlaw's Video Slot Challenge.
Since we've never played The Faces of Danger before, you might want to see the rules at http://www.c-gate.net/~dougm/poker/rulesaud.htm and then scroll down to "The Faces of Danger".
Now, here's the query...
In 1992, authorities in Italy arrested a man for stealing how many little bars of hotel soap? Please respond in increments of 1000 bars of soap.
(time passes)
Either this guy loved to collect soap or didn't want to spend the money on soap. In any event, the actual answer is...
QUALIFYING ANSWER
17,000 BARS
OF SOAP
...17,000. Who's the closest?
Rick 12,000Rick. Should we call you "the" Rick? Like Mike O'Malley's character in the ESPN.com commercials?
(floor manager talks to Doug)
Oh, Rick *Morris*. Now I remember ya. Anyhoo, who's playing against Rick?
Michael Clifford 10,000 Brian W. Moore 10,000You two. Everyone else was off by more than 7000 bars. So, we'll thank everyone else for playing. Now, Michael and Brian, in this particular game, it *will* matter who locked in sooner. Who?
Michael Clifford 10,000You'll play second, Michael. Brian, you're at third base. The Faces of Danger's coming up on Net Poker.

Doug: Thanks, Deej -- I think. Sheesh, you make this sounds like Net Fear Factor. (audience laughs) But seriously, players, the actual name of this audience game is The Faces of Danger. Just for making it this far, you've each won CY$2500. But the trick is to hang on to as much of that cyber-cash as you can. Here's how ya play...
![]()
Doug: As usual, we've got every Ace through 9 hidden on the board. You'll each take turns drawing a card from the board.
So long as you do not draw a face card, you avoid danger. However, if you draw a face card, we're taking away some cyber-cash. If you draw a Jack, you lose CY$500. A Queen means we take CY$1000 away. A King means we dock CY$1500 from your score.
When you end up with less than CY$500, you're out. The last player standing automatically wins the game and the right to play the Outlaw's Video Slot Challenge.
As a bonus for avoiding danger throughout the game, the CY$2500 you would win will double to CY$5000.
Rick, since you came the closest in the qualifying round, you'll go first.
(time passes) (buzz)
Doug: OK, didn't get a response from Rick in time. We're going to make an executive decision in fairness to Michael and Brian. Our computer will log on to random.org and randomly pick a number for Rick. And it is...

Doug: ...20. Behind 20 we find...

Doug: ...the 10 of Hearts. Well, you stay at CY$2500 after all. Michael, nice to see you again. I'm sure you're glad to see D.J. again. (light laugther from the crowd) Your pick.
Michael: Of course it's great to see D.J. again. I tried calling her, but some guy on the other line said, "Go away, you (MG98 censored cuckoo)!"
(audience laughs and applauds)
Doug: Um, good news and bad news. Bad news for you is she's still seeing that biker. Good news -- he's not here to tear you limb from limb. (more laughs) So, with that said, what number?
Michael: I will pick 7.
Doug: Let's see if it's lucky...

Doug: Again, good news and bad news. Bad news is it's a face card.

Doug: Good news is it's not too painful a penalty. Brian, you're turn to bat.
Brian: How about the blackjack number, 21.
Doug: Well... how *about* the blackjack number?

Doug: You're safe. So, one trip down the line and only CY$500 lost. Rick, back to you.
Rick: Let's make it lucky number 13
Doug: Thirteen it is. And you've drawn...

Doug: ...Jack of Clubs. We'll have to dock you CY$500.

Doug: ...el nueve de diamantes. Muy bien, Miguel. (light laughter from the crowd) We occasionally have to reach out to the Spanish speakers who don't have the "SAP" button on their remote. Brian, su vuelta. Uhhh... (audience laughs) ...I mean "your turn".
Brian: Boy, I really do miss watching Spanish television.
Doug: Me too. I used to live in San Antonio and enjoyed the telenovelas -- y las actrices. :) (more light laughter)
Brian: Anyways, I'm going with 16.
Doug: Dieciséis.
