Video Poker

(picture of Chico on the big screen)

Hazen Nester: This is our returning champion -- Chico Alexander -- a medical technologist originally from Monterey, California. Stand by to see Chico play for a new Jaguar XK8 Convertible, CY$100,000 and a berth in our Quarter Million Playoff -- tonight on Net Poker.

(various scenes of casinos, poker tables and poker chips fade one after another as a smooth jazz theme plays)

Hazen Nester: From Studio 63, welcome to the card game where high hands can bring high rewards. This is Net Poker. (audience cheers) And now here's the star of our show, Doug Morris!

(Doug walks out from behind the video poker screen)

Doug: I thank you, Hazen Nester. Hellooooooooo everybody and welcome to our 10th episode of Net Poker. (audience cheers) The net game that has to plead guilty when accused of not playing with a full deck! (audience laughs) If you've dialed us up for the first time, you'll see what we mean. And if this is the first time you're watching us, you picked a good time because, as Hazen alluded to, we have a champion going for win number three. If he does win the main game or makes a natural royal flush sometime in said game, he wins CY$100,000 and a new Jaguar XK8 Convertible. (audience cheers) And we also have a chance for members of our audience to share in a CY$10,000 fishbowl when we look for players in our audience game. Lots to do and lots to tell you about. Here to help us is our dealer -- D.J. Hamilton.

(D.J. walking out wearing a pair of jeans, a white "peasant" shirt with a red vest and her Trivia on Tap waitstaff nametag)

(audience cheers)

Doug: Well, now we know why we missed you on the last show.

D.J.: Yes. I had fun on Chris Wolvie's Trivia On Tap -- but I'm glad to be back and I thank Tiki for filling in for me.

Doug: Ready to pick up where you left off?

D.J.: Uhhh.... yeah.... if I knew what to do.

(audience laughs)

Doug: How about introducing the players.

D.J.: Ah yes! Well, the players who were on the last show are back for a rematch due to a technical difficulty. So, here are Michael Clifford, Andy Geller and, back with CY$13,000 is our two-time winner, Chico Alexander.

CHICO
ANDY
MICHAEL

(audience cheers)

Doug: Thanks, Deej. Welcome back players. Somehow during the first round of the last show, we had two Aces of Diamonds exposed on the board -- probably due to all that screwing around Blinky did with the video screen. So, to be fair and to give ya'll the benefit of the doubt, we meet again. And we start with...

Doug: ...Video Poker. And just like the last time, we start each of you off with 10 points...

CHICO
ANDY
MICHAEL

(ding)

Doug: ...and with a series of five toss-up questions. Each query worth 10 more. So, if you're ready, let's go...

One of the original flavors of JELL-O was...
\ cranberry
\ strawberry
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Andy buzzes in)

Doug: Andy.

Andy: I will say STRAWBERRY

Doug: And I'll say you're 10 points richer.

CHICO
ANDY
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: Other flavors include spinach. (audience laughs) Just kidding. Next question for 10...

The first fire escape was...
\ patented in 1876
\ made of steel
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Michael buzzes in)

Doug: Michael.

Michael: Nope, sorry. Anyone else? (Chico buzzes in) Chico.

Chico: None of the above

Doug: That's right.

CHICO
ANDY
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: First firse escape was patented in 1766 and it was a rope and wicker basket -- which sorta defeats the purpose since they burn easily. Don't you think? (light laughter from the crowd) And with that, Michael, chance to make it a three-way tie with this query...

The card game Spanish 21...
\ is similar to Blackjack
\ uses no face cards
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Michael buzzes in)

Doug: Michael.

Michael: is similar to Blackjack

Doug: Correct.

CHICO
ANDY
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: There are face cards in Spanish 21 -- but no 10s. And just like normal Blackjack, each King, Queen and Jack counts as 10. And if this were Blackjack or Spanish 21, you'd have great totals against the dealer. Next query for 10 -- and we promise you won't bust if score on this question...

Grover Cleveland served as the...
\ twenty-first President of the United States
\ twenty-third President of the United States
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Chico buzzes in)

Doug: Chico.

Chico: All of the above

Doug: Oh, sorry, not right. Andy or Michael? (Andy buzzes in) Andy.

Andy: NONE OF THE ABOVE

Doug: Wow, could you get more excited next time?

CHICO
ANDY
MICHAEL

(audience laughs and applauds)

Doug: Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th president of the United States. Last question and then we go on to the video screen...

The Houston Astros...
\ were originally named for a revolver
\ once played their home games at Enron Field
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Michael buzzes in)

Doug: Michael.

Michael: all of the above

Doug: Yes.

CHICO
ANDY
MICHAEL

(audience applause)

Doug: Astros were originally named the Houston Colt .45s -- and their spokesman was Billy Dee Williams. (audience laughs) And after five questions, Chico has 20 points; Andy and Michael each with 30. For those who haven't been with us, we can tell you Michael is from Jersey and the president of the D.J. fan club. Andy's a stock broker from South Florida who witnessed "the big fall down" on the short-lived quiz show "The Big ShowDown". And as we noted earlier, Chico's a medical technologist who's playing for an undefeated championship. Fellas, D.J. explains what happens next.

D.J.: I feel like I should still be taking drink orders. (audience laughs)

(FF reveal sfx)

D.J.: Gentlemen, you'll each take up to two turns when you control the video screen. On your first turn, you'll pick five numbers and we reveal the cards behind them. Of course, we have the cards Ace through 9 from each of the four suits. If you're happy with the cards you drew, take the points associated with that combination and pass control to the next player. But, if you want that second and final turn, you may exchange any or all cards for new ones.
