Video Poker Doug: After five questions, the challengers are tied at 30 each. Alan's at 20. Before we continue, let's chat with the players. First, Chris, welcome to our little game. Tell us about yourself.
Chris: I live in South Central FLA, where I am currently... occupationally challenged, shall we say. I also host the netgame "Trivia On Tap" with my lovely "Little Barmaids", as I call my waitresses...and, DJ, you are more than welcome to guest-wait on our show if you wish; Blaze is always looking for extra help.
(a few men in the audience applaud hoot and holler)
D.J.: Ah, thanks Chris. I'm flattered. But I'll have to pass.
Doug: Aw, c'mon Deej, why?
D.J.: I was actually a barmaid years ago. Wasn't there long after I spilled a drink on a patron.
Doug: OOPS! Not good. Well, sorry we can't help you with your waitstaff situation. But maybe we can help you in the cyber-cash department. Joe, tell us a bit about yourself.
Joe: My name is Joseph Kristoff, and I am a high-school graduate from Montgomery Village, Maryland. I enjoy collecting coins, listening to classic rock music, and for a few months I gained interest in the furry fandom.
Doug: Plus he's hosting THE BIG RI$K 'round these parts -- a game I once hosted. And Alan's back with winnings of CY$7000. He's a pharmacist in Lima, Ohio and hosts Net Fast and First here on VBS. Players, it's time for the next phase of Video Poker. And for that, we turn to the beach babe standing next to the video screen -- D.J.
D.J.: Hey, I just thought of something.
Doug: What's that?
D.J.: Since we've got three net game hosts here, why don't we call this "Net Celebrity Poker Showdown"?
(audience laughs and applauds)
Doug: Cute idea. But some might think those ShowDown dice from my other show would get involved somehow.
D.J.: Eh, guess you got a point.

D.J.: Anyway, on the Video Poker screen, we've randomly hidden the cards Ace through 9 of each suit. You'll each take two turns. On your first turn, you'll pick five numbers and make a poker hand out of the cards your drew. If you're happy with that hand, end your possession of the screen and pass it on to the next player in line. If you want to take that second turn, you may exchange as many cards as you like. But, whatever you end up with on that second turn, that's it right there.

D.J.: Remember, you must get at least a pair of Queens to win any points. Any hand with a pair of Jacks or less -- or no pair at all -- means we take 5 points away.
Doug: And, let's not forget if you make a natural royal flush at anytime in the game, there's a neat prize waiting for you outside. Hazen's got the 411 on that.
Hazen: For your driving enjoyment, IT'S A BRAND NEW CAR! (audience cheers) (hard rock theme plays) The Jaguar XK8 Convertible. It comes with every factory option available plus this extra bonus -- CY$100,000 in the trunk!
Doug: You get that under one condition. The winner of the car must give Hazen, D.J. and me a ride in the Jag. (audience laughs) Now, as for order of turn, we're going down the line. Alan, you're up first since you're low man on the totem pole. Joe, you'll be next since you're in a tie with Chris yet you're closer to the left; Chris, you'll be last. Alan, the video screen awaits. Pick five numbers and we'll roll on.
Alan: gotta go with the combination to my luggage....1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Doug: Going with the Spaceballs combination again. Behind the first five spaces we see...

Doug: ...a pair of Aces. If you stopped here, you'd have 5 points for a total of 25 -- and then you'd have to hope the others would lose five points and we'd play a three-way tie-breaker with Dice Poker. Also, not to twist your arm into anything -- but you're 3/5 of the way toward a spaded royal flush. So, wanna take the 5 points and stop or make exchanges?
Alan: going to play it safe and drop the 10, J and K and go with 22, 23, 24
Doug: (looks offstage) Do we have the paramedics on standby in case he draws the Spade Queen and Ace? (light laughter) OK. Keep the Aces and what do we add to them?

Doug: Well! (audience cheers) The Ace of Hearts and a pair of 10s. That's a full boat for 40 points.

Doug: You're in the lead with 60. Joe, we're going to shuffle the cards around.
![]()
Doug: OK, now remember, in the shuffle, at least one card might *not* have changed its original position. In other words, you saw that Ace of Hearts at 24 earlier. It might still be at 24 or somewhere else. Pick five spaces and we'll roll on.
Joe: Ohhh, brother, what a tough act to follow. Let's start with 3, 7, 9, 18, and 24.
Doug: Hear ya. Let's see what's there first...
![]()
Doug: ...buncha nothing. Best thing here's a pair of 9s. If you stopped here, we'd take five points away. So, I think a second turn is in order. Remember, Alan got a full house in two turns. So, if he can, you can too.
Joe: Hmmm... Let's keep the nines and the king and hope for some good stuff behind 11 and 15.
Doug: OK, throwing the 10 and Jack back in the water. What does he get in return?
