Video Poker D.J.: OK, here's what in store...
![]()
D.J.: ...players, each of you will take up to two consecutive turns at the video screen. Remember, throughout our game, we only use the cards Ace through 9 of each of the four suits. On your first turn, you'll pick five numbers and we'll reveal the cards behind your selections. If you're happy with that hand, take the points associated with that hand and pass control on to the next player. If you want your second turn, discard one, some or all the cards and then draw as many new ones. When your second turn ends, you're stuck with whatever points are associated with the hand you built. Keep in mind a hand with just a pair of Jacks or less means we take 5 points away.
Doug: Plus, you need at least a pair of Queens, Kings or Aces to win 5 points. Two pair adds 10 points to your score. Three of any kind is worth 15. A straight is 20. A flush in one suit means 25. A full house is worth 40. A four of a kind nets you 125 points. A straight flush for 250. And if you get that elusive royal flush, you'll collect 1000 points as well as this fantastic prize which Andy already won on our last show.
TGoJS: For your driving enjoyment, it's a BRAND NEW CAR! (audience cheers) The Jaguar XK8 Convertible. It comes with every factory option available plus this extra bonus -- CY$100,000 in the trunk! All compliments of Net Poker. OK, Doug Morris.
Doug: Remember, you have to make a natural royal flush at some point in time during our game -- or win three games in a row -- in order to win the car and the big cyber-cash bonus. Normally, our last place contestant goes first. But, there's a tie for last place. Player to my left goes first, as someone said on some other show. Eddie, that's you. Pick five numbers and we'll get going.
Eddie: Hope I do better here than at the questions. Let's try the contiguous theory again -- 1, 7, 8, 9, 14.
Doug: 1, 7, 8, 9 and 14 give us...

Doug: ...an Ace of Spades, Jack of Clubs, Queen of Clubs, Queen of Diamonds and Jack of Diamonds, respectively. That's two pair worth 10 points if you stopped here. Marc has 40 points. You and Alan each have 20. So I have a hunch you'd like to take your second turn.
Eddie: Well, that try for the full house worked last time. Let's replace the ace with number 20.
Doug: Replace the Ace. Weren't they from Sweden? (audience laughs)
D.J.: No, that's *Ace of Base*.
Doug: Oh, sorry. Uhhh, anyway, what's Eddie replacing that Ace with?

Doug: Ah, the 9 of Diamonds.

Doug: Gives you 10 more points. But you're going to finish out of the money this time around. But don't worry, there's Five-Card Poker for you later. Right now for Alan...

Doug: ...is a refreshed video screen. And as the board was reset, some or all the cards moved to different positions on the board. So, Alan, pick five numbers and we'll continue.
Alan: my picks are the same as the combination to the air shield in Spaceballs 1..2..3..4..5
Doug: That's the stupidest combination I've ever heard in my life! (audience laughs) Yes, as you can tell, I've seen that movie, too. Funny stuff. What does *this* combination mean for Alan?
![]()
Doug: Well. Interesting. A pair of 10s along with a Queen, King and Ace. Obviously you'll want to take that second turn. A three of a kind will keep you in the round mathematically. Then again, you're 4/5 of the way from a straight and 3/5 of the way from a spaded royal flush. (holds up car keys) And you know the nice bonus package that comes with any natural royal flush. I certainly don't mean to talk you into anything -- except to say we'll take five points away here if you don't make exchanges.
Alan: I'm gonna drop the three face cards and replace with 7, 8, 9.
Doug: Uh, actually you have *two* face cards -- the Queen and King. Did you mean dump the Queen, King and Ace for 7, 8 and 9 -- while hanging on to the 10s?
Alan: oopsie, yeah drop the queen, king and ace
Doug: OK, just making sure. So, he's hanging on to the 10s, dropping the others and we get in exchange...

(FF reveal sfx) (Trivia Trap sfx) (loud groans from the crowd)
Doug: Oh, my goodness! I don't believe that! The cards for a spaded royal flush were virtually in the same neighborhood. As if that's not bad enough, this hand...

Doug: ...knocks you down to 15. Marc, good news. You're going to come out the leader no matter what. That's because *you* could potentially lose five points. Since that's the worst that could happen, let's reset the board...

Doug: ...and see if you can make a royal flush.
Marc: I'll take 3, 7, 9, 15, and 23.
Doug: Before we reveal the numbers, D.J.'s on the phone right now with 911 operators. So, the paramedics are on the way for Alan. Anyhoo...

Doug: Well, 2/5 of a spaded royal flush and 2/5 of the way toward the royal in hearts. You can keep the spades, the hearts or throw 'em all out. How do you play it?
Marc: Keep the spades and give me 11, 17, and 19.
Doug: Going for the spaded royal flush. Does he get it?

(FF reveal sfx) (Trivia Trap sfx)
Doug: Nope. And on top of that, you've got a whole lot of nuttin'. But, this only costs you 5 points and as promised you win the round.
