Deuces Wild Poker

Doug: And we're back with more on Net Poker. Just like the real thing, sometimes it pays to be good and other times it just pays to be lucky. Alan, you were definitely lucky. I think you missed about four questions, ended up with a pair of 10s along with Ace-King-Queen -- and *still* won it all in that last round. And now, let's see if that luck can hold out in the Deuces Wild Poker round. Here's how we play it...

Doug: Alan, on the video screen, we've hidden ten outlaw cards in this grid of 24 numbers. There's one outlaw on the top row, two outlaws on the second row, three on the third row and four on the bottom row. In a moment, you'll get to pick one number from each row. Each time you avoid an outlaw, you win a Deuce. As the name of the game implies, Deuces are wild and you can use them for anything when your five-card hand is complete. In the event you avoid all the outlaws and win four Deuces, we'll forget about making a poker hand and give you everything that's in the outlaw's jackpot which is now at...

Doug: ...CY$67,500. (audience cheers) Good luck, Alan, we're all with you know and let's get that jackpot. We start at the top. Only one outlaw among the numbers 1 through 6. Avoid the outlaw and you win the Deuce of Spades.

Alan: 3

Doug: Going with number 3. Does he win the first Deuce?

(bing)

Doug: He does.

(audience applause)

Doug: One Deuce down, three to go. On the next row we have two outlaws. Pick a number between 7 and 12 and you'll win the Deuce of Hearts if you do not reveal an outlaw.

Alan: 11

Doug: Double hockey sticks. Are we halfway to the jackpot with this number?

(outlaw says "YEEEEE-hawwww!") (audience groans)

Doug: Ahhhh, darn. Well, this part of the game's not over. It's fifty-fifty time on the third row. Three outlaws but three good numbers there. Avoid the outlaws as you pick a number between 13 and 18 and you win the Deuce of Clubs.

Alan: 14

Doug: Number 14. Show me something good.

(outlaw says "YEEEEE-hawwww!") (audience groans)

Doug: I said show me something *good*. Huh boy. Well Alan, only one Deuce in your hand and now we go to the last row where the odds are against you. Four outlaws on the last row. Only two good numbers. Pick one of them and you win the Deuce of Diamonds. Good luck.

Alan: 19

Doug: OK, let's see if we can give this man two wild cards to play with in the last part of this round.

(bing) (audience applause)

Doug: Well, that's a relief.

Doug: Before we move on, let's open up the rest of the board and see where the other eight outlaws where.

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: OK, Alan, two deuces to play with. Here's where we go from here. During the break, we had you cut a deck of cards.

Doug: And D.J. just put up the first pair up for grabs face down. In a moment, I'll have you pick a card. We'll then reveal it face up and add it alongside the Deuces. Then, we'll two this again with the next two pairs of cards from the top of the deck. Keep in mind with each selection, we'll discard whatever card you decline. The better the hand you make, the more you'll win.

Alan: left

Doug: The left card. Deej, what will be Alan's first natural card?

D.J.: Oh, the 9 of Diamonds.

Doug: Well, already, no hope for 20-grand. But...

Doug: ...five of a kind's possible if the cards fall your way. That's worth CY$10,000 and now...

Doug: ...a brand new pair of cards to play with. Once again, you get to pick the left or right.

Alan: right

Doug: Taking the right this time. Let's see another 9.

D.J.: The King of Spades.

Doug: Oh, dear. We're going downhill fast.

Doug: Looks like the best we're hoping for is CY$2000 for a four of a kind. Let's hope among the last pair is another King or another 9.
