Joker Poker

Doug: We're back on Net Poker -- and here's the answer to our question we gave you just before the break. Ickey Woods' shuffle was quite a sensation in the late '80s. So much so, Darrell Waltrip did the shuffle after winning 1989's Daytona 500 -- considered to be NASCAR's Super Bowl. But, as for Ickey's dancing in the NFL's 23rd Super Bowl, he didn't get a chance to shuffle. So, "zero times" was the answer to our question.

JOKER

Doug: Time to ask a few more questions. And we'll start with "Who's going to win the right to play for CY$65,000?" And we'll also ask, "Will Andy win the Jaguar XK8 Convertible and clinch a berth in the Quarter Million Playoff?" Those answers to come at the end of this round. To start, Eddie cut the cards during the break. Joker Poker works just like Five-Card Poker -- except that two Jokers have been added to the deck. Once a player controls a Joker, he may use it for anything when his poker hand is complete. High-scoring player at the end of this round wins the game. And we all know the rewards for winning this important round. Deej is about to show us the first pair of up cards for this round...

D.J.: The Ace of Spades and the 9 of Diamonds.

Doug: Woah, the yin and the yang up for grabs -- as well as 10 points and control with this question...

The proper noun "DeForest" was the...
\ middle name of Humphrey Bogart
\ first name of the actor who played Dr. McCoy on Star Trek
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: First name of the actor who played Dr. McCoy on "Star Trek"

Doug: Sorry not right. Andy, care to steal?

Andy: all of the above

Doug: Yup. It was also Bogey's middle name.

EDDIE
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: Ten to nothing in your favor, Andy. Which card to we start your hand with?

Andy: I'd like the Saddam Hussein card, please

Doug: The Ace of Spades of course.

EDDIE

ANDY

Doug: Meaning Eddie gets the 9 of Diamonds and we get two new cards.

D.J.: The Joker and the Queen of Hearts.

Doug: Sung by the Steve Miller Band and Juice Newton, respectively. (audience laughs)Anyway, next question for 10, speaking of cards...

"The flop" and "community cards" are terms used in the card game...
\ Egyptian Rat Screw
\ Texas Hold 'Em Poker
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: Texas Hold 'Em Poker.

Doug: That's right for the tie.

EDDIE
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: Tie score at 10. Eddie, which card? (time passes) (buzz) Hmm, no selection in time. 'Fraid I'm going to have to make the executive decision and flip a coin. (reaches into pocket; pulls out a penny) OK, I'll flip the coin in the air and let it land on the floor. If it comes up "heads", or Abe Lincoln, Eddie gets the Joker. If it's "tails", Eddie gets the Queen of Hearts. Andy, of course, you'll get whatever Eddie did not get. Here we go. (flips coin, lands on studio floor) And it's... heads! So, Eddie gets the wild card...

EDDIE

ANDY

Doug: ...and Andy gets the lady in red and we get two new cards.

D.J.: The Queen of Diamonds and the Ace of Hearts.

Doug: Well, Andy's going to get a pair of something. Will it be Aces or Queens? We'll find out after this next 10-pointer...

Pat Welsh served as ...
\ cheerleader for an XFL team
\ voice of the title character in E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Andy buzzes in)

Doug: Andy.

Andy: voice of the title character in "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial"

Doug: And that's 10 more for you.

EDDIE
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: OK, Andy, you lead 20 to 10 in this round. Which card?

Andy: Give me the Ace

Doug: Had a hunch you'd go there.

EDDIE

ANDY

Doug: And Deej has our next two cards.

D.J.: The King of Diamonds and the other Joker.

(a few oohs and claps from the crowd)

Doug: Well, this could get real interesting. Either way, Eddie would be 4/5 of the way from a potential straight flush. Then again, if Andy scores on this question, he needs only to chime in on the 15 pointer that comes next to put it all out of reach and win the car. So, big question for 10 points as well as control for the cards...

Tobey Maguire played Joan Allen's son in the movie...
\ Pleasantville
\ The Ice Storm
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Eddie buzzes in)

Doug: Eddie.

Eddie: Totally guessing -- Pleasantville.

Doug: No, sorry. Andy.

Andy: all of the above

Doug: Yes, both films.

EDDIE
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: Which card?

Andy: The Joker, please

EDDIE

ANDY

Doug: Done. Andy potentially has three Aces. Eddie, as I noted earlier, needs the Diamond 10 or Diamond Jack for the straight flush. Any 10 or Jack would give him a straight. And now for the last pair of cards which we make available...

Doug: ...face down. At this point, the question's worth 15 points, and then the high hand is worth 25 points. This means if Andy scores, he wins all the marbles. So, Eddie, you'll want to chime in and draw a good card. Here's the question...

In the board game Sorry!, players move their pieces...
\ by rolling a pair of dice
\ toward their respective "home" spaces
\ all of the above
\ none of the above

(Andy buzzes in)

Doug: Andy, for all the marbles.

Andy: toward their respective "home" spaces (There's no place like home)

Doug: And there's no place like the Quarter Million Playoff!

EDDIE
ANDY

(slot machine payoff sfx; audience cheers)

Doug: For anyone new to our program -- and we say this especially for Eddie's benefit, there's no way Eddie can catch up now. Even if one of those cards up for grabs would've completed a 25-point winning hand for Eddie, that still means Andy wins 45 to 35. So, that's why we're ending this game here.

Andy, congrats. CY$100,000 plus that new car will be waiting for you outside. And then there's a matter of CY$65,000 with Deuces Wild Poker. We'll play that in just a bit.

Eddie, every cloud has a silver lining and yours look like this. You've got CY$500 and you'll be back on the next show due to that boo-boo we made in the first round. A big hand for Eddie Timanus.

(audience cheers)

Andy, before you play for CY$65,000, it's time to play for CY$10,000 more. You know the drill by now. Pick 2 letters in "POKER". Find the two highest amounts and you win another 10-grand.

Andy: OK

Doug: Yes, just pick any two letters.

Andy: OK!

Doug: Oh. (audience laughs) You want the *letters* OK. OK. What's at the O, first?

JOKER

(bing)

Doug: Well, just 750. And the K?

JOKER

(bing)

Doug: Total of CY$1750.

EDDIE
ANDY
(smooth jazz theme)

Doug: 158-grand even plus the car and 65-thousand-more? Let's hope after this!

(audience cheers)
