Video Poker

Doug: Very well. Especially if you can win that CY$65,000 jackpot in the endgame. But that's much later. Right now, we need to see what D.J. has in store for each of you next.

D.J.: Indeed...

D.J.: ...gentlemen, you'll each take up to two consecutive turns at the video screen. Remember, throughout Net Poker, we're using the cards Ace through 9 of each of the four suits. On your first turn, you'll pick five numbers and we'll reveal the cards behind your selections. If you're happy with that hand, take the points associated with that hand and pass control on to the next player. If you want your second turn, discard any or all cards as you like and then draw as many new ones. When your second turn ends, so ends your possession. Keep in mind a hand with just a pair of Jacks or less means we take 5 points away.

Doug: Also remember, you need at least a pair of Queens, Kings or Aces to win 5 points. Two pair scores you 10 points. Three of any kind for 15. A straight is 20. A flush in one suit earns you 25. A full house means 40 more points. A four of a kind gets you 125 points. A straight flush for 250. And if you get that elusive royal flush, you win 1000 points as well as this fantastic prize.

(smooth jazz theme plays)

TGoJS: For your driving enjoyment, it's a BRAND NEW CAR! (audience cheers) The Jaguar XK8 Convertible. It comes with every factory option available plus this extra bonus -- CY$100,000 in the trunk! All compliments of Net Poker. OK, Doug Morris.

Doug: Thanks, Jay's ghost. We'll give away the car anytime a player makes a natural royal flush. Andy, in your case, if you win the car *before* winning Joker Poker, we'll just give you another CY$100,000 should you win your third game. Now, since we have a tie for low man on the totem pole, we'll turn to the champ to start. And then Eddie plays next; Marc winds it all up. Andy, pick five numbers for me and we'll start.

Andy: 1, 8, 12, 15, 24

Doug: OK. Let's reveal your picks...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Well, interesting. Three 10s with the Spade 10 still in hiding. You also have the Ace of Clubs and 9 of Clubs in your possession. Three of a kind is worth 15 points. You may take the points or exchange some cards. What's your pleasure?

Andy: Looking for the other 10... I'll exchange the 9 and Ace for lucky 7 and unlucky 13.

Doug: Ace and 9 go down the drain and make way for...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: ...another Ace and another 9. Well, that's still 15 points.

ANDY
EDDIE
MARC

Doug: You're still in business, but you'll have to hope Marc loses 5 points and Eddie doesn't gain a lot. Eddie, let's reset the board for you...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: ...and as we do, some or all cards have moved to different positions on the board. But, you're still playing with every Ace, face card, 10 and 9. Go ahead and pick five numbers.

Eddie: Ok, for no particular reason ... 6, 11, 12, 16, 23.

Doug: Okie doke. Let's see what lurks there...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Ugh. Jack of Hearts, 9 of Hearts, 9 of Spades, Jack of Clubs and the 10 of Diamonds. That's two pair for ten points. If you stopped here, you'd secure last place and I don't think you want to do that. So, go ahead and make exchanges.

Eddie: Ooh, tough call. Well, they say you're not suppose to do this in vid poker, but I'm going to try for the full boat. Let's lose the 10.

Doug: And what do we replace it with?

Eddie: Number 18, please.

Doug: Number 18. Does he get a Jack or 9 with this pick?

(FF reveal sfx) (audience cheers)

Doug: You drew the Jack of Diamonds and the risk paid off!

ANDY
EDDIE
MARC

Doug: Now it's time for Marc to play as we reset the board again.

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Marc, you'll need a straight to tie Eddie. A flush or something better to win this round. Which five numbers do we start with?

Marc: Give me 9, 10, 17, 18, and 23.

Doug: Let's check out those cards...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: ...definitely you'll want to take that second turn. Just a pair of 10s and that equates to a loss of five points.

Marc: It's a hard decision whether to go for the straight or to try to get another 10. Well, if I lose the 5, I'll be tied for second. Let's keep the tens and hope for at least one more behind 8, 13, and 21.

Doug: Mmmmm, are you sure about your strategy? You understand if you drew only one more 10, that would give you a three of a kind, 15 points and you'd finish in second place. A full house or four of a kind, the only other combinations possible so long as you hold on to the 10s, would give you the win. I'm not trying to talk you out of anything. Just making sure you understand the whole concept.

Marc: I may as well go for the straight. Toss the 10 of diamonds and give me number 14.

Doug: OK. Like I said, we didn't want you to go for three of a kind and then realize you lost. He's going for the straight. Does he get it?

(FF reveal sfx) (Trivia Trap sfx)

Doug: Nope. It's a loss of 5 and Eddie wins the round.

ANDY
EDDIE
MARC

(winning bells; audience applause)

Doug: Now, just for the heck of it, let's bring back the Diamond 10 and reveal 8, 13 and 21.

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Well, a pair of Queens and a King. That's two pair for 10 points. That still would've been a loss. OK, now that that's resolved, Eddie let's give you a chance at CY$5000. Now, we've hidden five different amounts of cyber-cash behind the letters in the word "POKER". Just pick a letter and whatever cyber-cash is behind that letter is yours for the taking. Which letter?

Eddie: Let's see what's behind the K.

Doug: The man wants to see what's behind the K and we have...

VIDEO

(bing)

Doug: ...just CY$500. (theme plays) That 500 is yours to keep no matter what happens the rest of the way. We'll see Eddie in the Joker Poker round. Andy and Marc, you're off to Five-Card Poker. That's next. (claps)
