Five-Card Poker

Doug: And welcome back. A few notes before we continue.

First, Noiel's not able to hang around. We hope to have him back on a future episode.

As for Joe and Andy, what we'll do is play one hand of Five-Card Poker between you two. The winner of this round wins the game and the chance to play for CY$60,000. The loser of this round gets to come back on the next show since the affected player will not have lost in a full game.

Also, we had a mishap in qualifying. So much so that Jay "JX" Cross should've been up here. That's our mistake. So, in fairness to him and you guys, on the next show, we'll you two and JX playing in our next game of Net Poker.

(audience applause)

Now, a few more notes, since Andy won the last round, we let him cut the cards. Also, since this is going to end up being an unofficial game, we thought we use some Q&A material we didn't get to on our sister show Net ShowDown. We're going to play some answers and questions from the category "Jeopardy! 1999". It's a category all about things that happened in 1999. And you have to respond in question form, OK?

So, we start this "just for grins" round of Net Poker with what?

D.J.: The King of Spades and the 10 of Diamonds.

Doug: And with that, here's your first answer.

In 1999, the German parliament inaugurated its new home in the restored Reichstag in this pre-war capital city. (Joe buzzes in)

Doug: Joe.

Joe: What's Munich?

Doug: (impersonating Alex) Oooooh, sorry. (Andy buzzes in) Andy?

Andy: What is Berlin?

Doug: There ya go.

JOE
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: Which card?

Andy: King of Spades

JOE

ANDY

Doug: King's yours and the 10's for Joe. Next two cards, please.

D.J.: The King of Hearts and the Ace of Diamonds.

Doug: Interesting situation. OK, here's the next clue...

A frequent guest star on Night Court in the '80s, this singer -- who was nicknamed "The Velvet Fog" -- died in 1999. (Joe buzzes in) Joe.

Joe: Who's Mel Torme?

Doug: Right for the tie.

JOE
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: Which card would you like?

Joe: There is no way in heck I'm going to let Andy-boy have two cowboys. The King, please.

Doug: LOL! You must be president of the Jeff Wine fan club.

(audience laughs)

JOE

ANDY

Doug: OK, you've each got a King, Andy's got a slight edge with the Ace over Joe's 10. But we've got three more pairs to go. And Deej has the next pair.

D.J.: The Ace of Spades and the Jack of Clubs.

Doug: Ace and a John up for grabs with this answer as we continue this special Jeopardy! 1999 round...

It only took 12 minutes to formally dissolve the marriage of model Jerry Hall and this Rolling Stone in 1999. (Andy buzzes in) Andy.

Andy: Who is Mick Jagger?

Doug: Right on.

JOE
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: And which card are we adding to your hand?

Andy: I want the Ace of Spades

Doug: Kinda thought so.

JOE

ANDY

Doug: OK, Deej, what cards do we have up for grabs next?

D.J.: The 10 of Hearts and the 9 of Diamonds.

Doug: OK, two low end cards and this answer...

The year of 1999 marked the return of this Cleveland-based NFL team. (Andy buzzes in) Andy.

Andy: Who are the Browns?

Doug: Correct.

JOE
ANDY

(audience applause)

Doug: My girlfriend's favorite team -- while I'm a long-suffering Bengals fan. (audience laughs) In any event, Andy, which card?

Andy: 10 of Hearts

JOE

ANDY

Doug: Okie doke. As we come upon the blind card question -- or blind card *answer*, depending on how you want to view it -- Andy's got a pair of Aces. Joe, you'll have to chime in with the rightresponse and then draw a Queen.

Doug: That and you gotta hope one of these is a Queen. Andy, if you chime in and respond correctly, you put the game out of reach. So, important situation on the way with this clue...

Jan Davis protested parachute jumping restrictions -- and died in October of '99 when her chute failed to open -- at this national park. (Joe buzzes in) Joe.

Joe: What's Yellowstone?

Doug: No. Sorry. Andy, chance to win the game if you can tell me.

Andy: What is Yosemite?

Doug: You've won it.

JOE
ANDY

(winning bells; audience applause)

Doug: With the blind-card question worth 15 points and the high hand at 25, Joe, there's no way you could win. Fret not, you'll be back in our next game. We'll give you CY$100 and say bye for now.

FIVE-CARD

Doug: Andy, as for you, since you've won the championship, we'll let you pick two letters in "POKER". Find CY$5000 and CY$2000 and we'll kick in three-thou more for CY$10,000 total.

Andy: The P and the R

Doug: P and the R. Alpha and the Omega. The beginning and the end. The start and...

D.J.: Yeah yeah, get on with it! (audience laughs)

Doug: OK, fine, Spoil Sport! Let's reveal the P first.
