Video Poker

(audience laughs)

D.J.: LOL! Some of you act like you've never seen a woman wear jeans and a bikini. Anyway, players, you'll have two turns at the video screen. On the first turn, you'll pick five numbers. Remember, we have everything Ace through 9 from every suit on the board. If you like the hand you made on the first turn, take the points and pass control on to the next player. If you don't like your hand, trade in some cards for new ones. Whatever you get on your second turn, you're stuck with it.

D.J.: And as you can see, the better your hand, the more points you score. Doug?

Doug: And remember players, at anytime you make a natural royal flush, you win this fantastic prize. What is it, ghost of Jay Stewart?

(smooth jazz theme plays)

TGoJS: For your driving enjoyment, it's a BRAND NEW CAR! (audience cheers) The Jaguar XK8 Convertible. It comes with every factory option available plus this extra bonus -- CY$100,000 in the trunk! All compliments of Net Poker. OK, Doug Morris.

Doug: All right. Now, we start with the lowest scorer first. Noiel, that's you. You're going to need at least a full boat just to stay in the road. But it can be done. So, pick five numbers and we'll get goin'. (time passes) (buzz) Oh, no selection in time. 'Fraid you'll have to stay at 10. Let's reveal where your cards were...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: And we move on to Joe. You will need at least a flush to clinch a tie. So, let's reset the board...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Now, some or all of the cards have moved to different positions on the board. So, pick 5 numbers and let's see what happens.

Joe: Doug, let me have 2, 7, 8, 9, and 24 (for my birthday, September 26, 1978)

Doug: Ah, well happy early birthday. Maybe we can deliver a cake and have Deej jump out of it or something. (audience laughs) Let's see what you drew...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Well, you've got two Kings for 5 points. But you need at least 25 to stay in the running mathematically and I don't think you want to stop here. Which way do you play it on your second turn?

Joe: Okay, boss, let's toss that 9, the Ace and ol' John and replace them with 3, 10, and 16.

Doug: Ol' John?

D.J.: He means the Jack. Take it from someone who should've held on to some Jacks! (audience laughs)

Doug: LOL! OK. Well, let's see if Joe can get two more Kings. That'll give him a big lead. Of course, a full house would help his cause...

(FF reveal sfx) (audience groans)

Doug: Ohhh, so close. If that 10 would've been a King or Queen, you'd have the lead. Such as it is...

NOIEL
JOE
ANDY

Doug: ...two pair only gives you 10 points. Andy, good news. As you know, the worst that could happen on any possession of the video screen is that you lose 5 points. So, if that happened, you'd still win. But, let's just go ahead and reset the board...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: ...and give you two shots at a royal flush worth not only 1000 points but also CY$100,000 and that new car! (audience cheers) Andy, just think of this as taking a couple of free throws. Good luck and pick five numbers.

Andy: I picked my numbers at random: 1, 8, 10, 19, 23

Doug: Okie doke. Let's see if those numbers get you the car or, if not, how close...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Well, interesting ways to play it. You've got 2/5 of a spaded royal flush and 1/5 of a royal on hearts. Of course, you could drop 'em all and try for a royal in clubs or diamonds. I certainly don't mean to influence your next move -- other than to say let's go for that car.

Andy: OK. 11, 15, 16, 21, 24

Doug: Trading all of 'em for five new ones. Interesting. Let's see if that's a smart move...

(FF reveal sfx)

Doug: Well, two pair. Your official winning score is 60 points.
