Semi-Final Game 1 Round 1
======================================================================Scarlett Gray: "That's Terrible!" hosted by Charles Barkley (audience laughs) will not be seen at this time -- so that we bring you a tournament that's anything but terrible. ======================================================================
(drum roll) (fade into four shot of players who are standing in front of the players' podia)
Scarlett: Combined, these four players have won more than CY$500,000 on Net Definition. They are Michael Clifford, Shawn Wells, Andy Silikovitz and John Menjes.
Tonight, one of them is guaranteed to walk away with CY$1,000,000. Find out who will negotiate his way through our cryptic clues the best -- on this special edition of Net Definition.
Scarlett: From CDM Enterprises, Net Definition. The game of Hangman.
Scarlett: Solution...
Scarlett: ...and our solution to fun with the pun on VBS is Net Definition. And now -- here to bring *great* news to one of our contestants -- our host, Doug Morris!
(audience cheers) (Doug enters from stage left in a tuxedo; shakes hand with each semi-finalist)
Doug: Thank you, Scarlett Gray and hellooooooo, everybody. Welcome to the Net Definition Mega Playoff -- our high stakes tournament of puns and wordplay. In a moment, two of our semi-finalists will play in our first game with the other semi-finalists competing in the next game. The winners of the first two games advance to the finals where CY$1,000,000 is waiting to be one.
Doug: Best of luck to all of our players -- as we start our Mega Playoff with Michael Clifford and John Menjes.
(audience cheers) (players wish each other luck; Michael and John exit stage right; Shawn and Andy take their places behind the podia)
MICHAEL JOHN Doug: As you can see, Michael returns with an impressive CY$231,250. John, who just qualified for the tournament on the last show, won CY$128,500. Michael is our top seed in the playoff; John the fourth seed.
A brief explanation of the rules for the tournament. Each round in the semi-finals is always worth CY$500. The goal is still CY$1500.
In this first round, Michael will give the first letter away of the game since he's seeded higher. In each of the remaining rounds, the player who lost the previous round starts the new round.
However, if the score is tied at CY$1000, then the player who created the tie may either give away the first letter of the round -- or let his opponent give the first letter away of the round.
By the way, when we get to the finals, the goal will be set to CY$2000. But more on that later.
MICHAEL JOHN Doug: Michael, John, good luck to you both. The kitty has CY$500 to be won on this, the first definition of the Mega Playoff.
Scarlett: They're rock and roll legends.
Doug: They're rock and roll legends. My kind of definition. Michael, you'll start us off by giving away a letter you do not want.
Michael: Give away the X.
Doug: And there's no X. Now you may take a letter you think you can use.
Michael: I'll take the E.
Doug: And there is one E.
Doug: Fourth letter in the last word. As in the regular games, when a letter goes on the board, you're entitled to one guess. For CY$500, they're rock and roll legends.
Michael: I think I have the answer. Is it HALL OF FAMERS?
Doug: Good guess but incorrect. John, over to you.
John: I'll give the Q.
Doug: No Q. Take one now.
John: I'll take the O, please.
Doug: 'Fraid there's no O either. Back to Michael.
Michael: Give away the Z.
Doug: No Z. Take one now.
Michael: I'll take the S.
Doug: And we have two S's.
Doug: They're both in the first word. Another chance to win the first round. They're rock and roll legends.
Michael: Well, since the band Kiss wore lots of face makeup, I will go with KISS IN MAKEUP.
Doug: There ya got it!
Doug: "Hall of famers" was a good guess earlier -- but where's the fun in that? "Kiss in makeup" certainly keeps up with the idea of puns and wordplay.
MICHAEL JOHN Doug: Michael's won the first round. John will have a chance to even the score when we return. We've only just begun on the Net Definition Mega Playoff.
